    FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

    • What version of the game is this?
This is a port of Ys I & II Chronicles for the PC, a remake directly from Falcom themselves, and is considered the canon of the series. This port, however, does contain the elements that were included in Ys I & II Complete, hence, why it is called Ys I & II Chronicles+.

    • What are the differences between the aspect ratio displays (Display Modes)?
See Display Mode: Chronicles (30:17) or Complete (4:3)? for an explanation and image comparisons.

    • What are the differences between Chronicles (2009) mode and Complete 2001 mode?
See Game Mode: Chronicles (2009) or Complete (2001)? for an explanation and image comparisons.

    • What about the DS version? What is it, exactly?
The DS version had no direct work from Falcom; it was developed by Interchannel-Holon and published by Atlus Co. with Falcom's permission, and it also contained physical attacking with a sword in addition to the traditional bump system that was originally featured in the game. (You could still use the bump system, but it required using the stylus.) It also had an extra dungeon in Ys I that isn't present in this version.

    • How do I attack enemies?
This game features an extremely unique battle system. You must bump into the enemy in any direction EXCEPT head on to deal damage to it. If you bump into it head on, you will take damage instead. Your best bet is to attack it from an angle, or in front of them just to the left or right.

    • Should I play this on Steam or the PSP?
They are practically exactly the same game, so whichever you can access the easiest. Personally, I would recommend the Steam version; it has Achievements that the PSP version doesn't, and has more customization to the menus and the way the game is presented to you.

    • How do I unlock enemies' statistics?
Each enemies needs to be five times before a piece of information about them is unlocked. They will unlock in a random order, and you must defeat the enemy several times to unlock all pieces of their information. For Ys I, it needs to be done twenty-six times (once for the name entry, then twenty-five for the rest), and for Ys II, it needs to be done thirty-one times (once for the name entry, then thirty for the rest).

    • What are the differences between difficulties?
For actual statistics, only the HP of the monsters change. Easy monsters have the least amount of HP, and Nightmare monsters have the most. Otherwise, as the difficulty is increased, the monsters become MUCH faster, more fierce, and much more aggressive, making them more difficult to fight.
