FAQ/Walkthrough by A Backdated Future

Version: 1.03 | Updated: 08/26/13

Note...

Make sure to SAVE before doing anything in town. Some of the things to be done in this section may need to be done in a certain order for them to trigger.

Whoo-hoo, another town! Just to the south of the entrance, you should see some fencing with red berries on it; examine the plump red berry to get a Cruberry. (Head back into the mine leading to the Moat and come back two more times to get two more, giving you three total.)

Next, head up the stairs to the upper-left, and head inside the shop, Zalem's Battle Best! Be sure to TALK to Zalem before buying any weapons! The dialogue changes after shopping, and after this first discussion, you'll be able to get into her bed! Go behind the counter and run at the bed in the lower-right corner for several seconds; if it prompts you to jump in, then you've done it successfully. After messing around in Zalem's warm and sinful bed, return and buy the Hyper Cutter and Reflex for 10,000 G and 16,000 G, respectively.

Zalem's sinful sleeping spot...
Note...

Zalem's bed is the second of three beds you can get into in the game, with Lilia's being the first. If you forgot to get in it, go back and do it already! Be Adol, the bed-hopper!

Next, you'll want to talk to everyone in town; start from where you entered town near the exit of the Moat, and make your way around this first level of the ground. Outside, you'll find Frith, Jill, Reise, Rimera, and Muto tending the graves to the far southwest and down two sets of stairs. Back up those two sets of stairs, you'll see a house to your right; grab the Cruberry here if you like, then go inside and talk to Hadat. Go up the stairs to the northwest of Hadat's House, and you'll see a Marle Flower just to the left of the Deserted House here. (Go inside to be told that it is, in fact, abandoned.)

Head back to beside Hadat's House and check the next house to the upper-right, which is Blitz's House. Paulie, Tanya, and Blitz are inside, so talk to them, then go into Gorto's House below theirs. Talk to Lloyd inside, then go into Maria's House to the right. Maria's mother, Karen, will tell you a bit about what happened to her daughter, so be sure to talk to her.

That should be everyone on the first level, so climb the grey stairs in the center of town to go up to the second level. Talk to Faye and Frau outside, then stop inside the Guardhouse and talk to Neal. To the far right on this level is Regg's House, so stop in and say 'Hi' to Regg, but also make sure to check out his basement; he has a well that will heal your HP and MP to the max!

Go back outside once again, then head north up the second set of grey stairs up to the third level. Up here is Gorto, the man we're looking for. Talk to him to learn of what exactly is happening, then watch the scenes that follow. When you regain control, you'll need to go talk to Hadat once again, so go back down to the first level and go into his house on the lower-left. After speaking with him, choose Yes, I will to agree to rescue his son, and he will give you the Lila Shell.

With that in hand, you can now return to Gorto at the top of the village, and he will lower the bridge for you, allowing you to proceed! However, DON'T JUST YET!

Now that we have the means to hop between towns/villages, let's take care of a small side quest of optional unique homemade food!

Homemade Food Items

First off, DO NOT EAT ANY OF THE HOMEMADE FOOD! At least, not until I tell you to. To start, go ahead and Return to Lance Village. (You may have already picked up these during the walkthrough up until now.)

Lance Village

First, make sure you have 3 each of the Apples, Marle Flowers, and Herbs. Whenever you run out, be sure to restock and keep going at the shops here.

Next, talk to Lucy, the little girl with a lisp watching over the pikkards on the southwestern edge of town. I'm sure you've set her on fire before, so you'll 3-5 of your items (depending on if, and how many times you set her on fire), but once you do reach that point with her, she will give you some Meat Pie! (This Meat Pie is a one-time-only deal, so save it for when it's absolutely necessary... or just don't eat it until I tell you to.)

Next up is Theo; he is walking around the Elder's Residence, so give him 4-6 of your items (again, depending on if and how many times you torched him), and he will give you some Smoked Meat. (If you eat it, offer him another item, and he'll give you another meat to have. You can only have one at a time, but can do this as many times as you want.)

Restock your items, then Return to the Colony of Lava next!

Colony of Lava

Nash it the man you want to see next, and he's wandering between the well and Tarf's House. Give him 5-7 of your items (depending on his flaming), and he'll give you some Raw Meat. (As with the Smoked Meat, if you eat it, offer him another item, and he'll give you another meat to have. You can only have one at a time, but can do this as many times as you want.)

Return to Lance Village and restock your items, then return to Ramia Village to finish off this task!

Ramia Village

From where you teleport in, go down the two sets of stone stairs, then go all the way right and up the smaller stairs here to Zalem's Battle Best. Offer her 5-7 items (hopefully you haven't torched her yet), and she will give you a Cruberry Pie. This is the last of the four homemade food items.

Steam Achievements

Before attempting these Achievements, SAVE YOUR GAME! You'll need to reload that save once you've eaten the items.

Make sure you've SAVED FIRST! You can obtain the No Reservations Achievement by eating all four of the homemade food items that we just acquired. Once you've earned the Achievement, reload your game so that they're still in your inventory. You'll still need them.

Make sure you've SAVED FIRST! You can obtain the The Hand That Feeds Them Achievement by making all of the animals in town fall in love with you. There are two sheep and a goat near the Cruberry spawn spot on the eastern part of town, south of where you came from. These animals only like Cruberries and Herbs, and each one must be fed three times, so feed one of them your 3 Herbs, feed another your 3 Cruberries, then run back and forth from the entrance/exit to the Moat and restock your Cruberries, then feed the other your last 3.

After you feed those three, you must then feed the cat that is in Gorto's House, which is the second house to the left of the sheep and goat you just fed. Once you're in there, feed the cat your Smoked Meat, then your Raw Meat. Reload your game from the save you just made a bit ago, return to the house, and give the cat another Smoked Meat or Raw Meat, and you'll earn the Achievement. Once you've earned the Achievement, reload your game so that all of your items are still in your inventory. Just so you have them!

Once all of this is done, and you're 100% ready, proceed north through the exit of Ramia Village to start your assault on the Shrine of Solomon!

Before going forward, make sure that you transform into a Roo! If you don't, then the guards ahead will gladly tear you from limb to limb. As a Roo, approach the Zearots, and they'll let you through to the inside of the Shrine.

Hadal's Sector

You'll start off in Hadal's Sector. Go ahead and switch back to Adol so you can take out the enemies, then make your way east, going up the first set of stairs you see to the north. Climb the second set of stairs just to the northeast of those, then head west and turn north, continuing past the fork until you come to the edge near water. Keep going east from there into the Mesa's Sector.

Mesa's / Gemma's Sectors

As you'll soon find out, Mesa's and Gemma's Sectors are within the same area, and you'll see the name change when you cross the boundaries, so don't let that confuse you. Move east and follow along the path until you can go down a set of stairs. Once you do, you'll be in an open area; take a few steps to the right of the stairs and go north under walkway above you. Go north, then turn west when you can, going under another walkway, until you come to the western edge. Hug this wall as you go south, ignoring the stairs while continuing south until you see a doorway to your left. Go inside, then go west, then all the way north (past a second doorway which just leads right back outside) to go down some stairs. Pass through this room as well to be on the lowest level back outside, then go right a bit and go through the next doorway to be back inside. At the dead-end, you'll come across a chest with 2000 G! Make your way back to the last level back outside.

Note...

Now is a GREAT time for grinding!

If you like, you can climb up the stairs on the eastern side of the building that you just came out of, as it will lead the building in Mesa's Sector with a Zavanite. This monster is TOUGH (the last entry in the Monster Notebook for normal enemies), but is beatable, and will relinquish quite a bit of EXP when you defeat her, considering she is level 42. She's pretty easy to corner and take out, so I STRONGLY recommend taking at LEAST a HALF HOUR (preferably a WHOLE HOUR) to grind against her to better prepare yourself for the rest of the dungeon. Just make sure to save constantly. I say grind against her until you're at least equal with her at level 42. (Yes, she gives out THAT MUCH EXP!) Once you hit 42, the amount she gives you will start to drop, so I'd say move on after that.

From the eastern side of this area, go back north, then east under the walkway above you, then further east, then south and back under the first walkway you went under. Climb up the stairs to the east now, then go east and north to a fork. The building to the north here in Gemma's Sector is empty, so ignore it and head east instead, turning south when you can until you can go down a set of stairs. Once you're down the stairs, look for a doorway to your west and head on inside. Go through this hallway to be back outside, then go down the stairs here, ignoring the neighboring door. Head south under the walkway above you until you hit the southern wall, then head west to find yet another doorway. Turn Adol into a Roo once again, then head inside.

Head north along the path in here, and since you're a Roo, you can talk to the Zavanite in here; she will give you a Pass to get through the gate to give information to Zava. Return the way you came, following the path back until you reach the building at the north end of Gemma's Sector that you ignored. Keep ignoring it, then return south and down the stairs back to the first major fork.

The only way to go now is north under the walkway once again, but this time, instead of going west toward Mesa's Sector, go east and north and approach the gate. Still in Roo form, talk to the Nashzar, and since you have the Pass, he will let you through the gate here! Proceed north to Fact's Sector.

Fact's Sector

At the fork here, go west, then north and east to another fork, this time with a fountain. Move north, then take a left when you can and enter the door here. You'll see a chest to your right as soon as you enter; go north through two doorways, then go right and down through the two doorways here to get to it. It will have the Ring of Ease inside. This awesome ring halves your MP consumption, so you can either cast more spells for fewer MP, or have the MP used for the constant casting of the spell drain slower! Awesome! To exit, just go back the way you came. (Or you can go the other way; both lead to the same place, just on the opposite side.)

Return to the fork with the fountain, then go slightly right, taking the stairs down just past the fork. Go ahead and head inside the doorway that the Bearots are guarding; if you examine the door here, you can hear something going on inside, so equip the Whisper Earrings, make sure that Adol is a Roo, then take a listen. Not only will you hear of some of the prisoners escaping, you'll learn their password, 'miikka', so we'll now be able to access the other three sectors!

For the sake of simplicity (since we have to return to the beginning of the area anyway), and for the fact that you've likely been a Roo for a while and your MP has dropped quite a bit, take this time to use your Return Magic and head back to Ramia Village to recover your HP and MP at Regg's Ancient Well. Once you've done that, SAVE, then re-enter the Shrine of Solomon to be back in Hadal's Sector.

Hadal's Sector

From the entrance, head up the stairs just to your west, then up the set just to the northwest of those. From there, go a few steps east until you hit the edge, then go all the way north, then west to Tovah's Sector.

Tovah's / Dabbie's Sectors

These two Sectors are in the same area as well. Make sure you're a Roo, then go down the stairs to the left and talk to the Godrup here; give him the password, 'miikka', to lift the gate. Go north under the walkway, then west and south to a fork. IGNORE THE STAIRS FOR NOW; we will come back to them soon enough. Instead, proceed west a few steps, then head all the way south, past two sets of stairs to your left, then east after the second set of stairs, where you can find another building. Inside is 3000 G, so be sure to grab it.

Go back outside, then head west to the set of stairs that you passed. Ignore them once again and go west under them to be in Dabbie's Sector, where you'll come to another split path. Ignore the door to your upper-left, then head all the way south, then all the way west. Take a few steps north, then turn east when you can and go into the building here. Even though you can't open it just yet, keep in mind that there is a locked door to the north that we can come back to later. Instead, go west and north down the stairs here, then follow the path until you come back outside. Go left and through the door here, pass through the room to your left, and you'll come to a dead-end outside with a chest; it contains a Roda Fruit, so grab it if you don't have one, or use the one you have to recover so you can.

Backtrack through the last two buildings so you're back out on the second level of Dabbie's Sector to the far west, then go south, far east, far north, then east to be back in Tovah's Sector near the doorway and set of stairs you've passed a few times. Pass them once again and go north, then climb the stairs to the upper-left. You'll wind up going west to Dabbie's Sector once again, and you'll be at another fork. Go north, then west and down the stairs to the ground level. In this area, there are three doorways to the north, and a set of stairs to the north and east that lead to a building; go up that set of stairs and enter the building, where you'll come to an altar. It's empty, but if you equip the Light Magic (since you are in Dabbie's Sector, after all), the Sacred Cup will appear upon it, so grab it.

The other three doorways in this area lead to the same building that has a locked door, so we'll have to come back to it later. For now, return up the last set of stairs and go east back into the Tovah Sector. Go down the steps here, then make your way to the stairs to the upper-right that we initially ignored upon coming here. You'll see a building to your lower-left; go inside, and you'll meet Dalles, who warns you to just leave. Attempt to go into the doorway to your north, and he will curse you, permanently turning you into a Roo before he disappears! Yikes!

Luckily, we can remedy this before going any further. Use your Return Magic to go back to Ramia Village.

Ramia Village

Talk to Gorto here, and he'll tell you that you should talk to Regg for help, so go east into his house and speak with him. Since you have the Sacred Cup, he'll lead you to his basement and cure you with his "Holy Water", returning you to your human self. Go ahead and head back to the Shrine of Solomon and Hadal's Sector.

Hadal's Sector

From the entrance, head up the stairs just to your west, then up the set just to the northwest of those. From there, go a few steps east until you hit the edge, then go all the way north, then west to Tovah's Sector.

Tovah's / Dabbie's Sectors

Go down the stairs to your lower-left and pass through the gate again, then go left, then down and descend the stairs, entering the building to the lower-right once again. No Dalles this time, so just proceed north and into the Subterranean Canal.

Subterranean Canal

Move south, then east to a set of three bridges. The path that goes south between bridges 1 and 2 lead to a dead-end for now, so instead, go down the path that goes south between bridged 2 and 3. (The path east and north leads to a locked door.) Follow the path as it goes south and east, and you'll come to another bridge; each side of the bridge has another path leading south, but the one on the left side leads nowhere, so take the right path down, following it yet again to another fork. North is a dead-end, so continue south and follow the path as it twists as turns west to another split. Again, a dead-end to the north, so go south one more time, and this time, just follow the long path as it zigzags across a bridge and eventually leads you to Bohtz, who is with the other escapees. Go inside, then down the stairs to the upper-right to find Lilia! She will give you the Shrine Key, which allows you to open quite a few doors now!

Note...

The Runaways' Hideout is now a destination that you can Return to.

Watch the scenes here, then head back out to the surface to Tovah's Sector.

Tovah's / Dabbie's Sectors

Since you have the Shrine Key, there are four treasures you can now get. From the building that led to the Subterranean Canal, go up the stairs to the northwest, then go up the stairs to your lower-left, turning west to go back into Dabbie's Sector. At the fork to your west, go north and down the stairs to your left, then enter the doorway to your left. You'll come to the locked door I mentioned earlier; with the Shrine Key, you can now enter and obtain the Time Magic! With this, you can temporarily stop enemies in their tracks!

Return to the last fork just up the stairs outside, then take the western path, following it for a while as it turns south, then east and to a doorway that you haven't visited before. In here, move left and up to the next room, then go right to a fork. There's another locked door to your north; go through the doorway and you'll find an Iron Shield to complete your fourth tier of armor!

To not confuse us any further, just use your Return Magic to go back to Ramia Village and recover your HP/MP once again, then head back into Hadal's Sector of the Shrine. It's quicker than trying to re-navigate back to the beginning, and you'll be at full health.

Hadal's Sector

You need to make your way back to Fact's Sector, so head up the two sets of stairs to your upper-right, then go west to the edge, then all the way north and east to the next area.

Mesa's / Gemma's Sectors

Follow this path all the way to a set of stairs; go down them, then take a few steps to the right and go north and into Fact's Sector.

Fact's Sector

Head east at the fork here, then turn north to another fork. A doorway that we haven't gone through yet is to your east and north, so go through it, then follow the paths through the hallways inside to find your way to another locked door, which leads you to a different area of the Subterranean Canal.

Subterranean Canal

You'll be at a fork as soon as you enter, with three paths going south. The middle one is a dead-end, so take the far right path leading south first, then cross the bridge to the east when you see it. Take a step or two north, then keep going east, then south when you can. You should see a bridge to your lower-right; cross it, then head north, and you'll find a chest at the dead-end here; a Silver Pendant, which we will need to continue through the Shrine.

Return to the fork at the start of the area, then take the far left path leading south. Cross the bridge, then take a couple of steps right and head south, following this path as it turns east, then south again. When you come to the next fork, go west, ignore the bridge, then hit the southern wall. If you hug it while you go left, you'll cross to the other side on a very thin path, where you'll find an old chest containing a Celceta Flower! (Use the one you have if needed to grab this one.)

That's it for treasures, so now it's time to take on a boss! As before, just use your Return Magic to go back to Ramia Village and recover your HP/MP once again, then head back into Hadal's Sector of the Shrine.

Note...

It's strongly recommended to be at least level 37 before taking on the next boss, but it's even MORE recommended to be at level 42 by fighting the Zavanites! If you didn't do it before, I would recommend doing it now; each one gives you tons of EXP up until level 42, and she's easy to corner and beat. She's in the top building in the Mesa Sector.

Hadal's Sector

Go up either of the stairs at the entrance, then enter the building in the center of the area. You'll see a locked door here; go through it, then go north to one more door, which leads to the boss room. Be sure to have your Cleria Ring (avoid the Hawk Idol, as other targets may distract your Fire Magic), your Herbs, and your Fire Magic equipped, then go inside to take on Druegar, another freaky demon, but with eight legs!

Druegar
DifficultyHPLVSTRDEFEXPGOLD
All Difficulties 4203619214415002200

Thanks Falcom, just freak me out a little more, why don'tCHA?

As with the last boss, you can only hit him from the front in his face, so right as the battle starts, take a couple of steps back (since he can't take damage for the first two or three seconds he's in front of you), then let loose with all of your fireballs until you run out, or he gets too close. Once he's near you, run to the nearest corner and stay there for a moment, waiting for his next move.

He has two attacks; his eyes will glow and shoot several beams at you; once you see/hear them shoot, run to the next nearest corner, and you'll be able to avoid them. His second attack is to lay several eggs; those eggs will explode and shoot off several projectiles as well, so to avoid these, just be as far away from them as you can before they explode, and you should miss them.

Try to keep to the top of the screen, and once you've successfully avoided two or three attacks and he's closing in at you at the top, quickly run to the bottom and get underneath him to shoot him with another flurry of fireballs. At higher levels, this should be all she wrote, but if not, repeat the above steps again to put this beast to rest.

If you need additional help, watch my boss fight on YouTube using the link below, or through the embedded video above!
http://youtu.be/IqTNYw2u4Mk

After the battle, go through the door to the north to find another Goddess Statue. It tells you to place a pendant around your neck to proceed, so equip the Silver Pendant you found in the Subterranean Canal, then examine the Statue to be teleported to the West Wing of the Shrine.

West Wing

Go out the northern doorway to the next room, then head down into a hallway / fork. Go west, north, west, and north some more to the next room, then go west and north again to the room after, leading to the East Wing.

East Wing

Go north and through the door here to be outside, where you'll get a message from Hadat on the Lila Shell; there's a boy there to see you, but before rushing back, we need to grab some treasure first. Go east, a few steps north, then east, south, and east, following the path to come to another door leading inside. Go through this hallway and to the door, where you can hear guards talking. Go outside and talk to them to learn of a missing key to the Water Control Room. Go down the stairs to your left, then enter the doorway to the left of the stairs to be back inside. Open the locked door in here, and you'll find the Battle Shield in a chest here! Be sure to equip it!

Go back outside, then up the stairs to the same level where the soldiers are talking. Head all the way west from there and enter the doorway at the far end, then head north and down the stairs to another section of the Subterranean Canal.

Subterranean Canal

From the fork at the entrance, head south, west, north, west path this fork, then south across a bridge, west across another bridge, then north past a fork to another bridge. Cross it to the north, then go north a bit more and cross another to the east. Go south, east to a fork, then turn north and follow this path; it'll take you across two bridges as you go east, south, then east and north to a dead-end, where you'll finally meet Keith. Upon speaking with him, he will give you the Floodgate Key so that you can empty the canal and gain access to the next area.

Note...

You now have everything that you need to proceed to make your way through to the next boss, Zava. She is a toughie, so I recommend taking the time now to grind until you have both maximum gold (99,999 G), as well as being at level 45 or 46. Just by going through the Shrine and completing the bestiary entries of all of the monsters so far. I recommend doing this now, since it's easier to get where you need to go after coming back through the entrance of the Shrine.

Steam Achievements

You can obtain the Spendthrift Achievement by maxing out your money at 99,999 G.

For now, go ahead and use your Return Magic to head back to Lance Village.

Lance Village

With that 99,999 G, you now have MORE than enough to get that rare item from Jade. Talk to him, restock whatever items you may need, then drop 60,000 G on the Elixir. Keep in mind that this is the ONLY one in the game, so you'll want to save it for the final boss; it will resurrect you if you die.

Once you have that, Return to Ramia Village.

Ramia Village

It's not really important, but go to Hadat's House to see what Tarf had to say. Recover at the Ancient Well, then make your way back to the Shrine once again.

Proceed north and into the Subterranean Canal.

Subterranean Canal

Head south, then cross the three bridges to the east, and you'll come to a freaky-looking door; since you have the Floodgate Key, you can now enter. Pull the lever at the top of the screen, and the water will drain away from the entire canal. You'll also receive 1500 EXP for your hard work!

Now, it's time to find some even more awesome treasure now that the water is gone! Return to the three bridges, then take the southern path between the 1st and 2nd bridges to the left. Follow it to what used to be a dead-end, but is now a set of stairs going down a level. Go east to a fork, then move north, following the path here until you go under the bridges that you just crosses not too long ago. Turn right and go south underneath the third bridge, then go east, south, and east a bit more to an open area, where you should see some steps and a chest to your north. Open the chest for the excellent Battle Armor!

From those stairs, go just a bit more east, then turn north when you can. Climb the stairs to the north, then go east and follow this long path until you can go down a set of stairs. Take a step right from those and go north to the next area. Go as far south as you can while hugging the wall on the right, and you'll eventually come to a somewhat open area. Turn west now, ignoring the paths to your north until you hit the far west wall. At this fork, go south, then west, north, and up some stairs. After the stairs, go west, south, east, south, then west to the wall. Even though you can't see it, you can go south from this wall into another room, where you will find the second best sword in the game, the Battle Sword!

Return to the fork where you turned south, then backtrack just a few steps to the east, turning south when you can and climbing the stairs to the lower-right. Go all the way to the eastern wall, then open the chest to the north for the Falcon Idol. Go directly south of it to another room, then go up the stairs to the left to find yourself back in the West Wing.

West Wing

Here, you'll find Keith again; Zava is now ready to carry out a sacrifice, and you're the only one who can stop her. Head south out into the Palace Grounds.

Note...

Out here are two of the last three normal enemies of the game, so they will be tough, but they will also give decent EXP. Make sure to get all of their bestiary entries, and if you need to, take the time to grind enough to be at level 48 before proceeding to face Zava. It may take some time, but it'll be worth it.

Palace Grounds

As noted above, be careful of these enemies, as they can make very quick work of you. Take a few steps west and go up the stairs to the north, then go west to the fork. Let's go south first and follow the path as it goes west and north to the Goddesses' Palace.

Goddesses' Palace

Here, climb the stairs above you and enter the building to reach the platform where the spirits of the Goddesses will be waiting for you. They tell you of a second pendant that you need to have in your possession to reach them within the core of the Shrine, but to get it, you must obtain the Dreaming Idol to help out those who are currently petrified. Your HP and MP will then be completely restored, and you'll regain control. (You can return to this glowing light in the center of the room any time you need to heal.)

Note...

The Goddesses' Palace will take up the sixth and final slot on your scroll of places that you can use your Return Magic to visit.

When you're ready, leave the Goddesses' Palace and return to the Palace Grounds.

Palace Grounds

Head back to the fork, then go north, following the path until you reach the Campanile of Lane.

Campanile of Lane

Just to the north is the boss door. For your equipment, I recommend equipping your Falcon Idol, your Smoked Meat (as it can restore all 255 HP, and it is easy to replace, unlike the Celceta Flower), and your Fire Magic. Also make sure that your MP is at its max, so you can fire off more spells when it's fully charged. When you're ready, SAVE, then go through the door to face Zava and her minions.

Zava
DifficultyHPLVSTRDEFEXPGOLD
All Difficulties 4804422519125002400

You cannot attack Zava directly from the start; instead, you'll need to take out the bats that accompany her using your Fire Magic. These bats fly every which way you can imagine, so keep your distance from them while firing off charged Fire shots. As long as you have the Falcon Idol equipped, the shots should help do more damage than they normally would without it.

Each time you defeat a set of Zava's bats, another set will be summoned, with one more than you had faced before. She starts with two, then three, then four. After four, she'll spawn another, but will then go about attacking you on her own, moving slowly while shooting off projectiles in every direction. At this point, the battle is pretty much yours; just avoid the projectiles and constantly blast her with your charged fire, and you'll make quick work of her in no time.

Getting past the bats is the hard part; as long as you can do that, you'll be good to finish her. Don't feel bad about using your Smoked Meat or other healing item if you find yourself in trouble. It's a tough battle.

After the battle, equip your Time Magic, then proceed north to the next area. You'll see Maria here, begging you to run away. Use your Time Magic here, and you'll see some text above her head, saying that 'Maria is not amused!'

Steam Achievements

You can obtain the Timestop Understanding Achievement by using your Time Magic in Maria's presence when you first encounter her, making sure that she is not amused.

In all seriousness though, talk to Maria to get her Notebook entry, then head east and follow the path here through several screens as you hear the bell toll. (Ignore the chest you see along the way.) You'll eventually reach the top of the tower, where Dalles will be waiting for you. Helplessly watch the scenes here as Dalles does what he does best... Eventually, you'll regain control. Make your way back down through the different rooms of the tower. As you go, keep an eye out for a splitting path to your north (on the fourth screen back, to be precise); you may have seen it earlier, but there is a chest that is now accessible that was not before. Open the chest to receive the Dreaming Idol.

With the Dreaming Idol in hand, go ahead and use your Return Magic to head back to the Goddesses' Palace.

Goddesses' Palace

The Goddesses notice the Dreaming Idol, but ask you to find the Black Pearl to insert into the spot on the Idol's forehead, which will allow you to cure those who are petrified. To get the Black Pearl, we must pay a visit to Tarf, since he had it last! Return to Ramia Village.

Ramia Village

Talk to Tarf at Hadat's House, and he'll tell you that it must've fallen through the hole in his pocket. Return to the top of the village and talk to Gorto, and he says that a man in black had picked something up... so now the Black Pearl must be in their hands back at the Shrine of Solomon. Luckily, I know just where to find it. Re-enter the Shrine of Solomon as a Roo.

Go down the stairway just to your left, then enter the building to the lower-left to return to where we first witnessed Zava in a meeting. You can go through this door now, and when you enter the room, you'll see it lying there on a stand. Grab the Black Pearl once again, then use your Return Magic and head back to the Goddesses' Palace.

Goddesses' Palace

Approach the Goddesses once again, and they will combine the Black Pearl and Dreaming Idol. From here, you need to climb the to the top of the Campanile once again. Leave the Goddesses' Palace and return to the Palace Grounds.

Palace Grounds

Head back to the fork, then go north, following the path until you reach the Campanile of Lane.

Campanile of Lane

Go through the two sets of boss doors, then climb the tower once again, all the way to the top. Stand underneath the bell, then equip the Dreaming Idol and use it. You'll gain 2700 EXP for doing this! With this done, go ahead and Return to the Runaways' Hideout.

Runaways' Hideout

Enter the room and talk to all five people in here, including Kyle, Boris, and Ed, whom you have not met before. After some dialogue, Bohtz will give you the Gold Pendant. Now, there's one more person we need to find to complete the Character Notebook, and he was just de-petrified as well here in the Subterranean Canal. However, he's in a completely different area from where we are now, so the quickest way will be just to teleport back to Ramia Village, then head north back into the Solomon Shrine and Hadal's Sector.

Go east and north through the doorway, then follow the paths to that different area of the Subterranean Canal.

Subterranean Canal

As before, there are three paths leading south; take the path furthest west and cross the bridge, then follow the path to the lower-right as it goes south, west, south, east past stairs and a fork, then all the way south past several forks until you hit the far southern wall. Cross the bridge to the left, then keep going to a dead-end where you will find Sada.

Steam Achievements

You can obtain the Notorious A.C. Achievement by speaking to all NPC's and filling out your Character Notebook. Sada should be the last one, if you've talked to everyone else previously.

After giving Sada the details on what has happened, he will give you his Cleria Sword. He also tells you that his father has a suit of armor made of Cleria as well, so we need to go grab that too. Return to Ramia Village.

Ramia Village

Go to Hadat's House to inform him of Sada's condition, and he will gladly let you have the Cleria Armor.

Note...

Now that we have the Cleria Sword and Armor, you can beat the Zearots that guard the front of the Shrine. SAVE before taking them on, as they're still pretty difficult. When fighting them, using your Time Magic to constantly freeze them while you bash their heads in. Keep doing this until you have all six pieces of their bestiary info.

The final battles are coming up soon, so I strongly recommend fighting these Zearots over and over until you are at level 51.

Steam Achievements

Listed below are three of the last four Achievements that we can get through the normal game, not including ones awarded for beating the game or Time Attack.

You can obtain the And Your Children's Children Achievement by defeating FIVE sets (a.k.a. Ten Generations) of Zearots at the front gate of the Shrine of Solomon. This can only be done once you have the Cleria Sword.

You can also obtain the Demon Duster Achievement by unlocking all 276 pieces of monster info throughout the game. The Zearots should be the last enemy in the game that you need stats from.

The last Achievement here is Mosquitoes!! To complete this strange Achievement, Return to Lance Village, then make your way to the Ruins of Moondoria.

Ruins of Moondoria

Once you're in the Ruins, go all the way to the east from the entrance, then start heading north toward where Leggs and the Goddess Statue are. Along the water on the right side, just before going into the area with the stone Godaagos, you should see some mosquitoes floating about! (Pictured below.) Wait for them to hover over you, then SLOWLY walk back toward the entrance, making sure that the mosquitoes follow you with every step. As long as they stay close to you, once you reach Moondoria Field, you should unlock the Achievement as you are told that they're not following you anymore.

There's a nice horde of mosquitoes flying over here.

Once you are completely ready, it's time to make the final trek. Turn back into a Roo and head into the Shrine of Solomon for the last time.

Hadal's Sector

Go up either of the nearby stairs, then enter the building in the center. Go through the doors until you're at the other side of the boss room with the Goddess Statue. This time, equip the Gold Pendant, and when you examine the Goddess Statue once more, you will be sent to a new area of the Subterranean Canal.

Subterranean Canal

The path here is pretty straightforward! Go down the stairs, then go southeast, south and under a bridge, west, south, east and under a bridge, then south, west, and north up a set of stairs. Go through the doorway to the north to enter the Shrine's Underpass.

Underpass

Make sure that you have your Cleria Ring and Smoked Meat equipped. Magic doesn't matter, as it won't do any good anyway. When you're ready, SAVE, then follow the path and go through the boss's door to finally take on Dalles.

Dalles
DifficultyHPLVSTRDEFEXPGOLD
All Difficulties 5104923821935002500

You cannot use magic against Dalles, so don't even try; instead, we're back into the traditional Ys way of defeating him: ramming into him until he explodes! And if you don't have the Cleria Sword equipped, you can't even damage him!

Throughout the battle, Dalles will always have projectiles firing while he is surrounded by meteors. You'll need to wait for the projectiles to shoot in a pattern to where you'll have an opening before you charge him, and even then, you'll need to try and dash between the meteors. Once you do get to him, you should be able to hit him twice before he warps.

Once he does warp, IMMEDIATELY run to the center of the room. Here, you'll have quick access to WHEREVER he appears in the room, so the SECOND he appears, quickly dash at him and get two hits in. You should take little to no damage, as he probably hasn't had time to start his barrage of projectiles yet. He'll warp off again, so return to the center and repeat this process until he falls.

After the battle, examine the orb to the north to teleport to the Core of Ancient Ys.

(!) = BOSS BATTLE #07 (FINAL)

Upon arriving, open the chest next to you to receive the ultimate magic... Shield Magic from Priest Fact. This Magic allows you to be invincible while you are wielding it, but it constantly drains your MP; even the Ring of Ease can't slow it down.

Head south and take the elevator down, then continue south to the next area. Talk to Tarf on the right, then go through the doorway beside him. Follow along the path here, and you'll run into Maria! Make sure to talk to her.

Maria's bed. What a feeling...
Note...

After talking to Maria, you can now sleep in her bed in Ramia Village. To save time, SAVE, then walk back to the elevator room of the Core and teleport back. (You can't use Return Magic here.) Sleep in her bed, then reload your game after you're done so you don't have to backtrack. Or backtrack if you like; whatever you want to do.

If you've talked to both Lilia and Zalem at the right times as well, and have already slept in their beds, then you can complete your mission to sleep in them all! What do you get for it? Nothing! Just jollies! (Unless you're playing with Steam.)

Steam Achievements

You can obtain the Juuuuust Right Achievement by sleeping in all three women's beds, as described above.

Continue through the doorway past Maria. In this next room, follow the path to the dead-end, then head back, where Keith will create a path for you. Keep following the path to the next room, then talk to Gorto in the room after. Something will be moving to the right, so head east and investigate, and after several dialogue prompts, you'll find Lilia, who will give you the Goddess Ring. Be sure to equip it!

Return to where Gorto is standing, and with the Goddess Ring equipped, run through the shield to break it! Head north, west, and north to the magic symbol here, and it will teleport you to a room with an empty chest. Go through the doorway to the upper-left and try to go through the door. Watch the scenes unfold here... Just before you regain control, you'll receive the Silver Harmonica, so equip it, then use it to break the curse. After that quick scene, talk to Luta Gemma, and you'll receive the last piece of equipment in the game: the Cleria Shield. Equip it!

Talk to both Goddesses here, and they will bless your sword so you are ready for the final battle. You'll also receive 2000 EXP to help!

Use ANY and ALL items you have in your possession to make sure that you are at both MAX HP & MP. For your Item, equip the Elixir that you purchased from Jade; it will revive you should you deplete your HP against Darm. As for your equipment, you'll want everything in your sixth slot; Cleria Sword, Shield, and Armor, your Shield Magic, and the Goddess Ring. SAVE before equipping your Shield Ring, then QUICKLY run to the north (so you don't waste TOO much MP) to take on the final boss, Darm.

Darm
DifficultyHPLVSTRDEFEXPGOLD
All Difficulties 5105127824050002550

Mwahaha. With the Shield Magic and Elixir equipped, this fight is a joke. As with Dalles, you wouldn't be able to use attack magic, so Shield Magic will work just fine as you ram into him with your Cleria Sword equipped. You'll still want to make sure to avoid projectiles (there are quite a few), as it'll drain your MP that much quicker while you have the Shield Magic going.

Once he changes into his Black Pearl form with wings, you'll need to be a bit more careful, but still aggressive; he will launch a blast of energy at you that will deplete your energy much faster than his projectile attacks. It's really easy to see coming however, so just make sure to move behind him and keep ramming him. I would say almost no strategy is needed; just be careful on letting your HP/MP get depleted too quickly.
