Walkthrough - Ancient Ys Vanished: The Final Chapter (Ys II) (Continued)

Items / Equipment / TreasuresMonster Notebook EntriesCharacter Notebook Entries
    Short Sword Chrace Leggs
    Roda Fruit Cauction
    Ancient Tablet Godaago Astal
    Rod of Divinity
    Note...

The BUMP SYSTEM is a bit different in Ys II, as you can now attack diagonally rather successfully. Pay attention to the tutorial shown, or use the picture below, to get an idea of how to effectively fight.

Keep in mind that you can take a couple of hits right now before you die, so once you get your weapon, start grinding.

If you need to heal, you can do one of three things; stand perfectly still and wait for it to recover, head back to Lance and talk to Nurse Sarina to restore all your HP, or you can use Herbs and/or Apples to recover HP.

Tutorial on the BUMP SYSTEM for Ys II. Don't hit enemies straight on!

Some quick goals to set for yourself:

      1. Meet Leggs and get equipped!
      2. Get to level 6!
      3. Find all three treasures!

Since you don't have a weapon yet, let's remedy that first. As soon as you enter, quickly run all the way east until you come to water, then proceed north through the two nearby doorways. Keep going north until you hit a wall, then take a few steps west and go through that doorway. To your right you will meet Leggs, who will give you a Short Sword to protect yourself.

    Steam Achievements

Once you have the Short Sword, you will earn the Revenge of Sworded Details Achievement.

Go ahead and backtrack to the entrance to the far south, then west. From the entrance, take a few steps east, then go north between several columns to come a fork; go north first, and you should come across two short walls to your left; just to the north of those walls is a Roda Fruit lying on the ground, so be sure to pick it up. (This Roda Fruit will reappear upon leaving/returning, if you need more.) Return to the fork, then head west a few steps, turning north and west when you can. Take another couple of steps north, then go east to find a dead-end to your lower-right; examine the wall above you to find the Ancient Tablet.

    Note...

Before continuing on, we have one more treasure to get, but we can't do anything until we are level 6, so grind against the Chrace and Cauction enemies on the center/western side of the Ruins until you reach level 6. Just going from the far north to the far south repeatedly should be enough to have them constantly respawn.

Once you're at level 6, return to the entrance of the area, then proceed all the way east as you did when you first came here, turning north and going through two doorways. You should've seen two stone Godaagos to your left; at level 6 and 30 STR, you can now defeat them, so go ahead and take a minute or so to take them out. After they're gone, you can now access the chest they were guarding, so open it to receive the Rod of Divinity. With it, continue north and back to where you found Leggs, then approach the statue of the Goddesses that he's been looking at. With the Rod in hand, you will be granted the ability to use magic! We don't have any spells to use yet... but we will soon!

That's it for the Ruins, so head back to the entrance. To proceed, just head a few steps east, then look for a doorway to the north. At the end of the hall here, you'll find Astal guarding the entrance. Since you've gotten permission from the Elder, you'll be fine to go in.

    Note...

While you're in dungeons, your HP does not recover while you stand still. If you need to heal, use your Herbs or Apples.

    Sanctuary of Toal

You'll start in the Sanctuary of Toal, but will go back and forth between it and the Rasteenie Mine as you progress along. Head south and west to start, ignoring the door to the north since it's locked. Continue west, then north and east until you come to another door on the northern wall. You can go through this one, so enter to find the Tomb of Hadal; approach the statue here to offer Volume Hadal, and you'll recover your HP/MP as well. Return to the hallway and continue east to the next area, where you'll enter the mine itself.

    Rasteenie Mine

The mines can become VERY confusing and repetitive, so follow along carefully:

      • You'll start in a room with two exits. You came through the left, so take the right.
      • This room has two exits as well. You came through the right, so take the left.
      • Same as before with two. You came through the left, so take the right.
      • Again, two exits, but there's a broken wagon here. You came through the right, so take the left.
      • This room has some monsters, as well as three exits. Be careful around these Ripplets; they're dangerous, but provide for a good leveling experience, so feel free to fight them for a while. As for directions, you came through the middle, so take the left exit back to the Sanctuary.

    Sanctuary of Toal

Head south, east, then north to another doorway; this one leads to the Tomb of Tovah, so offer up the Volume Tovah and recover your HP/MP. Afterward, return to the Rasteenie Mine.

      • Back in the room with three exits. You just came through the left, and the middle before that, so take the right.
      • This room has two exits. You came through the right, so take the left.
      • This room has three exits, as well as some woodwork above you. You came through the middle, so take the right.
      • This room has also three exits, as well as a Ripplet and some water. You came through the left, so go through the middle.
      • At this dead-end, take out the nasty-looking Puroid, then grab the Mattock lying against the wall. Return to the last area.
      • Back in the three exit room with water. Taking the path to the far right leads to a dead-end with a Tolpi, so feel free to take it out for your Monster Notebook. (I strongly recommend doing so, then grinding to level 12 against it. Don't worry, it should only take a little over five minutes.) Once you've done that, return to the three exit room with water and take the left exit back to the prior area.
      • You're back to the second three exit room. You've been through the right and middle now, so go through the left.
      • Another three exit room. You came from the middle, so go right.
      • Two exit room with a Puroid. You came from the bottom, so go through the top.
      • At a dead-end with a wagon and some wood. Examine the rock pile to the upper-right, and you'll find the good doctor trapped behind it. Go into your item menu and equip the Mattock, then use it on the rock pile to take it out, freeing him and earning 100 EXP along the way. Enter the new room and talk to Flair Rall, delivering Banoa's Letter while you're at it. After reading it, he asks you to get him a Roda Fruit (which you should already have), as well as a Celceta Flower. (If you want, you can give him a Wing so he can warp out of there; he'll be fine without it, so I'd hang on to it.) Go back to the upper-left to be back in the large room, then take the upper-left path to be back in the previous area.
      • Back in the two exit room with the Puroid. Take it out, then take the lower path.
      • Back in the last three exit room. You've been through the middle and right, so go left.
      • This room has three exits and some woodwork above you. Go ahead and go through the left to be back in the Sanctuary once again.

    Sanctuary of Toal

At the fork here, take a few steps right, then go all the way up to find a Cleria Ring. Equip this to help parry some enemy attacks, then return to the fork and head west, then north. Enter the Tomb of Dabbie and offer the Volume Dabbie to continue and recover your HP/MP. Return to the fork and head back into the mine.

    Rasteenie Mine
      • Back in the last three exit room. You've been through the left and top-right, so take the bottom-right path.
      • Three more exits in this room. You came through the middle, so go right first.
      • A four exit room with a beastly Puroid. You came from the upper-right, and the upper-left and lower-right BOTH lead to dead-ends with monsters (Tolpis), so take the lower-left path.
      • Two exits here. You came through the top exit, so take the lower.
      • In this dead-end, you'll find a Puroid and a chest. Take out the beast, then open the chest to FINALLY find some magic! Fire Magic to be exact! Open your equipment menu and select the Fire Magic to be able to use it with the default examine button/key. Return north to the last area.
      • Back in with the two exits, take the top exit back.
      • You'll be back in the four exit room. Return to the last area via the upper-right exit.
      • Back in a room with three exits, you've been through the middle and right, so take the left.
      • Another three exit room, but with some water to the left. Grab the Herb here; if you don't have room, then just equip and use one of the three you do have, then pick it up. As for directions, you came from the left, and the right only leads to dead-ends with monsters (a Ripplet and Puroid), so take the middle path.
      • Three more exits in this room. You came from the middle, so go left first.
      • Two exits with a Tolpi. You came from the right, so go left to the Sanctuary once again.

    Sanctuary of Toal

You'll be at a fork here; go west first, going through this door to the Tomb of Mesa. Offer Volume Mesa and get your HP/MP recovered, then return to the hallway and go east, then north. Go through the door here as well to the Tomb of Gemma, then offer Volume Gemma to the statue here and get your HP/MP recovered. Once you've taken care of those, that should be all but Volume Fact, so head back to the fork and return to the mine. (Make sure to SAVE right about now, if you haven't yet.)

      • Back in the two exits with the Tolpi, head right back to the prior area.
      • You'll be back in the room with three exits and a Puroid. Make sure you DID SAVE like I asked, so now you can take some time grinding against the Puroids for a while. They still do a lot of damage, but they also give quite a bit of EXP. You're also really close to the Tombs of Mesa and Gemma, so you can retreat to them for healing if you take a beating. I recommend grinding until you reach level 14, as there's a boss coming up that will be quite difficult at anything lower. It should only take two or three minutes if you're using the middle exit in that room and going diagonally at it as you enter. Once you're done grinding, take the path to the far east and north to the next area.
      • This is a very wide two exit room. Make your way west, south, then west to find the next exit to the north.
      • Another two exit room. You came from the upper-right, so go through the path on the lower-left, which leads to a boss door. Make sure you have the Fire Magic, Cleria Ring, and your Herbs equipped, then SAVE! When you're ready, proceed through the door to take on the first boss of Ys II, Velagunder, the gangly beast!

    Velagunder
    DifficultyHPLVSTRDEFEXPGOLD
    All Difficulties 1601110040400600

This battle is basically a shoot-'em-up. You can't hit him physically, so you have to rely on your Fire Magic. Hold down the magic button/key until it's charged, and in the meantime, move between the blasts of energy the beast shoots at you. There will usually be a spot you can avoid the blast just between the largest beam and the smaller one beside it; otherwise, you'll just need to stay at the edges until you're able to go in for a shot.

When his arms are open and his eye is exposed, release your charged fire and follow up with several smaller fire shots while you can. Repeat this until he's toast.

If you need additional help, watch my boss fight on YouTube using the link below, or through the embedded video above!

Once the beast is felled, proceed through the door to the north to the last area of the Rasteenie Mine. From the northern entrance to this area, take a few steps west, then follow the path as it goes south and curves a couple of times. When the path turns east, hug the southern wall until you go into a new room just to the south, where you'll find a Carly and a piece of Iron Ore on a box in the upper-left corner. Once you have that, return to the last room, then head directly east along the southern wall until you hit the eastern wall. You're at a fork now, so head north alongside the eastern wall here until you reach another split, then take the northern path in the middle until you come to a dead-end with some water and some flowers. These are the flowers needs for Dr. Flair, so be sure to grab a Celceta Flower for him. As with the Apples, these do regenerate, but take some time. Feel free to use the one you just grabbed to recover HP/MP, then grab another to take back to Flair. You can only carry one of these at a time.

Return to the fork against the wall, then go south and go through the doorway to the right to the other side of the area. Beware of the stronger enemies here as you go east until you hit the far eastern wall, then go directly north and through the doorway here. Make your way north/northwest, following along the path until it turns east at the far north. Once it does, hug the northern wall as you go east, and you'll end up in a small alcove with a chest; it contains the Light Magic so you can see!

With this in hand, return to the last doorway to the south, then go right, where you can see another path beside the eastern wall here. Go down into this room, then go east/northeast and follow the path as it turns south to a dead-end with one final chest; an Evil Bell.

That's it for the Rasteenie Mine, so it's time to exit! Use that Wing you bought in Lance Village to return there now. If you didn't buy one, SHAME ON YOU! However, you can still get out; just follow along.

      • From the Evil Bell chest, go back through the exit to the north in the center of the room to the last area.
      • Go to the far south, go through the door on the left, go up a little, then all the way west to the western wall. Go north from here to the doorway leading back to the boss room.
      • Exit the boss room to the south.
      • Go south through the doorway, then out the door to the northeast.
      • Go all the way east and north out this door.
      • Three exits; take the middle exit.
      • Three exits and water; take the left path.
      • Three exits; take the center path.
      • Three exits; take the upper-right path.
      • Three exits; take the center path.
      • Three exits; take the center path.
      • Two exits; take the right path.
      • Three exits; take the center path.
      • Two exits; take the right path.
      • Two exits; take the left path.
      • Two exits; take the right path.
      • Two exits; take the left path.
      • Back in the Sanctuary of Toal, head west, south and east to the exit to the Ruins of Moondoria. Head back to Lance Village from there.

Upon returning to Lance Village, make your way to Guido's Armory. You have a piece of Iron Ore that he wants, and he's willing to pay for it!

    Note...

You can actually get 6000 G from Guido for the Iron Ore; to do this, just talk to him, then refuse to sell it to him. After watching the opening scene when you enter the Ice Ridge of Noltia, you can return and sell it to him for 6000 G. It's up to you, but money is pretty easy to come by while you grind, and would go ahead and just sell it for the 3000 G now, since you're in need of the money more so now than you will be then.

You'll also have to wait to get the second piece of Iron Ore if you hang onto this one, since you can only carry one at a time.

Since he's so eager to have it, so let Guido buy the Iron Ore for 3000 G. He'll then start working on new armor, so we'll have to give him some time before it's ready. For now, with all the money you have, go ahead and upgrade to the Long Sword and Small Shield for the time being, then leave the armory. Even though you will have the Return Magic momentarily, I still recommend keeping a Wing on you, so make sure to grab another (as well as some Apples and Marle Flowers if you're impatient) at Jade's Oddities. Don't forget to get Herbs at the clinic if you need them as well.

Next, make your way to the well at the center of town, below the armory. Talk to Lilia here for another scene before continuing. Afterward, your next stop is the clinic. Talk to Nurse Sarina and Dr. Flair here, and they'll take the Roda Fruit and Celceta Flower. After waiting a bit, they'll give you Lilia's Medicine to take to Banoa. Visit Lilia's House and talk to Banoa, giving her the medicine. Choose to Take a rest if needed, then leave and watch the events with her and Lilia. Afterward, you'll receive the Return Magic, as well as 300 EXP for your troubles.

Next... time to light up the citizens of Lance Village! You can use your Fire Magic against them, if you're that bored... You DO have time to waste!

    Steam Achievements

You can obtain the What the Legends Don't Tell You Achievement by using your Fire Magic on the Villagers 50 times! Since there aren't 50 in the village, you can also light the same ones up several times, and it will still count. Some pretty hilarious dialogue ensues upon burning them. My favorites...?

Masontorch: "Ow! Stop it! Despite my name, I AM NOT A TORCH!"

Brody: "Help! Help! My ass is aflame!"

Polo: "Aieeee! This is the seventh most painful thing I've ever felt!"

No, he's not bleeding profusely; it's just a well-timed fireballin' screen capture.

To waste some more time, we can also earn some more money by finding another piece of Iron Ore! Make your way back to the Ruins of Moondoria and Sanctuary of Toal.

    Rasteenie Mine
      • Back in the Sanctuary of Toal, head west, north and east and enter the Rasteenie Mine.
      • Two exits; take the right path.
      • Two exits; take the left path.
      • Two exits; take the right path.
      • Two exits; take the left path.
      • Three exits; take the right path.
      • Two exits; take the left path.
      • Three exits; take the left path.
      • Three exits; take the left path.
      • Three exits; take the lower-right path.
      • Three exits; take the left path.
      • Three exits and water; take the center path.
      • Three exits; take the right exit.
      • Go all the way west and south through this door.
      • Go southwest, then north through the doorway and into the boss room.
      • Exit the boss room to the north.
      • Go to the far south and hug the southern room as you move east. You should go down into the secret room where you first found the Iron Ore. If you search the pile of rocks once again, you'll find a second piece of Iron Ore! Once you have it, use your Return Magic to go back to Lance Village.

    Lance Village

You should've wasted enough time by now for the armor to be finished. (If not, go to Moondoria Field and pick flowers or something.) In any case, return to Guido's Armory sell your Iron Ore for another 3000 G, then grab the Breast Plate for 2000 G. That should complete your second tier of equipment, so go ahead and put it on.

Finally, let's take care of some demons. Make your way to Gila's House to the far southwest of town, and talk to him; he's singing a different tune this time, now that he knows you can kick some monster tail, he wants you to check his basement for demons! Choose Yes, then proceed down to Gila's Basement.

    Gila's Basement

Down here, SAVE, then equip the Evil Bell. Once you use it, monsters will come crashing through the wall! You now need to take them all out, so equip your Herbs, then go to town on them. Yes, there are quite a few, but it's worth it to clear them ALL out! It may seem like it, but they really DON'T re-spawn. Keep killing them until Adol doesn't sense their presence anymore, then proceed all the way north to be back into the Sanctuary.

    Sanctuary of Toal

Take out the nearby monster, then head east, north, and east, taking out the last one here. All evil presence is now gone, so you will be rewarded with 400 EXP!

    Steam Achievements

You can obtain the Gila's Monsters Achievement by defeating all of the monsters as listed above.

After the monsters are gone, examine the last door here in the Sanctuary of Toal to find the Tomb of Fact. Offer the last Book of Ys, Volume Fact, to the statue to have all of your HP/MP recovered. As long as you offered all six Volumes, you will now receive the Scroll of Guidance. With it in hand, return to Lance Village.

With all of this done in here, it's time to move on. For now, we must go back to the Ruins of Moondoria and pay a visit to the Sanctuary after.

    Ruins of Moondoria

First, since you've used it to help Dr. Flair, head north at the main intersection near the entrance and pick up another Roda Fruit. Next, make your way over to where you met Leggs and approach the Goddess Statue once again. It will reveal some text on the Scroll of Guidance, asking you to go to Solomon Shrine. You can find more of these at Goddess Statues throughout the land.

Return to the entrance once more and take a few steps northeast. You should see a weak part of the wall to the north, like this:

The weak wall leading to the Bestiary Potion.

Equip your Mattock, then use it on the wall here to make it crumble. Head within the walls to find an old chest with a Bestiary Potion. Go ahead and drink it, and you'll be able to see all of the enemy statistics in the game, once you've unlocked them, of course.

    Note...

Once you drink the Bestiary Potion, you'll be able to see Enemy's statistics. At first, they will all be ???'s, but as you defeat the enemies over and over, each stat will unlock one by one until you have all six: HP, LV, STR, DEF, EXP, and GOLD. If you're going for a perfect game, make sure to unlock them all! It takes 31 kills to unlock them all; 1 to get their name, then 5 each of the stats.

Now that you can see enemy statistics, you'll likely need to revisit the Sanctuary of Toal and Rasteenie Mine to complete the entries in your Monster Notebook. Go ahead and do this now, as we'll be moving on right after.

When you're ready, re-enter the Sanctuary of Toal.

    Sanctuary of Toal

Just beyond where you enter is the door you initially ignored. Now that the six Books of Ys have been passed on, the door will be open for you. Proceed north for quite a long time, and you will eventually reach the outside. Watch a scene here before you regain control on the Ice Ridge of Noltia.

Head up the first set of stairs to your left to a fork; the path to the west leads to a dead-end for now, so go up the second and third sets of stairs. As you can see to your lower-left, there are several slippery slopes here that will cause you slide down to the level below; you can't do anything with them just yet, but you'll soon have some shoes that will allow you to climb them. In the meantime, be careful to avoid them.

Continue up the set of stairs to the upper-left, and you'll be at a fork with SEVERAL paths you can take. The stairs to the far upper-left and lower-left both lead to a dead-ends, so let's climb the "middle" stairs just above the ones to the lower-left. Head west and follow the path; after you go down four sets of stairs, you'll be on another level with several more paths to take. Ignore the two stairs/slopes to the east and continue down the stairs to the lower-left down another level. Ignore the stairs below you and head west, taking the second set of stairs to the south. Go down one more set here, and you'll find something glowing to your right; examine it to receive the Blizzard Bulb. Now make your way back to that first major fork; you can slide down one of the slopes on your way back to return to the beginning and go from there.

Once you're back at the fork with four sets of stairs and a path to the east, continue east and follow the path for a while until you enter the actual cavern. The exit to the east leads to a dead-end, so head south from the entrance until you hit the southern wall, then move west/northwest to come to a gap with a glowing aura. Equip the Blizzard Bulb and use it here, and an ice bridge will be formed so that you can cross. Keep along the path to the next area.

The moist area where you can use the Blizzard Bloom to make a bridge.

Head down the first set of stairs here, then STOP! Go right and up, take out the Gercard, then go left into a hidden cavern; inside lies a Spirit Cape! This allows for you to recover HP while standing still while you're ANYWHERE, so be sure to equip it if you need to heal! Otherwise, try to keep that Cleria Ring on. Head back outside, then go down the nearby stairs. Head all the way west now, ignoring the first set of stairs and climbing up the second, then continue up two more sets before you come to another cavern entrance. The path to the upper-left is a dead-end, so go ahead and enter the cavern. There's nothing special in here either, so just head west and go through the doorway at the end to be back outside.

Go down the stairs and take a few steps west to a split. You can't do anything to the west and north yet, so take the two sets of stairs to the south to another level with more paths. Both ways here do lead to the same place, but you'll want to go west, as it's quicker, AND you can get an item along the way. After heading west for a while, you should see a slope below you; slide down it, then open the chest to the left for a Hawk Idol! This allows your Fire Magic to home in on the enemy! Sweet! Slide down the second slope here, then go down the stairs below you and enter the cavern to the left. In here, there will be several chunks of ice blocking your way, so take a few minutes to blast away at them with your fireballs until you can get through. Once you do, head out the other side. (Keep in mind that those ice chunks reappear if you leave and come back.)

As soon as you're out, open the chest to your right for the Alter Magic! With this, you can transform yourself into a Roo, which allows you to not have to fight the demons while you're in this form, and you can even talk to them! Give it a shot! Head down the nearby stairs, then follow the path as you go up two more sets. On this level, you should see a slope right above you; check to the right to find a Marle Flower. (If you have three, go ahead and use one to replenish some MP, then pick it up.) Head up the three sets of stairs just to the left of the flower, then at the fork, go up the ones to the upper-left and enter the cavern here.

In here, check along the north wall as you go east, and you should come across an Herb. (Do the same as you did with the Marle Flower to pick it up.) Continue east to be outside at a dead-end, where you'll find the Stone Shoes just to your east. With these, you can now climb up and down the slippery slopes as you please! Head back into the cavern, then pass through it and out to the other side. Climb down the four sets of stairs here, then go west and -- with the Stone Shoes equipped -- head up the slope to find the boss door. You can't enter it yet, but you now know where it is. To enter, we must backtrack and find an item that will let us in.

The item we need is closer to the beginning of the Ice Ridge than where we are now, so now would be a good time to recuperate, restock, and get a new weapon. If you don't have 5000 G, now would be a good time to grind for a little bit to that much; just try and fill in the Monster Notebook entries until you have 5000 G. When you're ready, use your Return Magic and head back to Lance Village.

    Lance Village

Visit both the clinic and the item shop to stock up on recovery items if you need them, then make sure and pay a visit to Guido. With 5000 G in hand, buy the Talwar from Guido so we have an easier time with the enemies. (If you can afford more, go ahead and buy it, but you likely won't be able to just yet.)

    Steam Achievements

You can obtain the Where's Aldow? Achievement now that you have the Alter Magic. To find Aldow, we need to return to the deepest depths of the Rasteenie Mine, where we found the Evil Bell.

      • Back in the Sanctuary of Toal, head west, north and east and enter the Rasteenie Mine.
      • Two exits; take the right path.
      • Two exits; take the left path.

      • Go to the far south, go through the door on the far eastern wall, to the south, then go up a little, then hug the eastern wall and go north until you come to a doorway. The cavern with Aldow is hidden to the lower-right, where you found the Evil Bell. As a Roo, talk to him to earn the Achievement (as pictured below), then use your Return Magic to go back to Lance Village.

There's Aldow! I felt bad for killing him afterward...

When you're ready, head back to the Ruins of Moondoria and the Sanctuary of Toal to get back to the Ice Ridge of Noltia.

    Ice Ridge of Noltia

From the entrance, go west and up the first ladder, then west and down the stairs here. Continue west, up a set of stairs, then down a set, and you'll come to a slope. Climb up the slope with the Stone Shoes equipped, then go down the stairs to the left. Go a bit further west, then down the stairs here. On this level is a slope to the far west; ascend it, as well as the slope above it, then go up the stairs to your right to find the item we're looking for; the Anti-Illusion Mirror.

Return to the entrance of the Ice Ridge, then climb either the three sets of stairs or the nearby slope to the next level, then climb the stairs above the slope to the level with many paths. Head east and follow this path until you are back inside the caverns once again. Go south, west, and northwest across the bridge back outside. Go down the two sets of stairs to the lower-left, then head all the way west until you hit the western wall. Climb the three sets of stairs here to your upper-right and enter this cavern, passing through it to the other side, once again.

Now that you have the Stone Shoes, go down the stairs here, then climb the slope to your left. You'll find another Goddess Statue here, which will give you more advice on how to proceed. Slide back down the slope, then go down the two sets of stairs to your lower-right. Head all the way west once again, then descend the two slopes here, as well as the stairs to the lower-left to find the next cavern entrance. Blast away the ice to get to the other side again, and once you're outside, go down the stairs to the south, then climb up two more to the west until you reach the slope leading to the boss door. Climb it, and approach the door. Equip the Mirror of Illusion, then use it; it will show you where the true door is.

    Note...

It's STRONGLY recommended that you're at least level 22 before taking on the next boss. It should be easy to grind against the Swoffs just outside of the boss room, as it'll only take 5 minutes or so. Just save before you start, as a couple of slips and you could be dead.

Also, keep in mind that there is a Marle Flower that regenerates just to the east of the slope leading to the boss door; you can wander around in different areas for a bit to have it respawn so that you have max HP and MP both before taking on the boss, if you like. Or just take the one; your choice.

SAVE, then equip the Hawk Idol, your Herbs, and your Fire Magic. When you're ready, enter the boss room and approach the northern door to take on Tyalmath in another fierce shmup battle!

    Tyalmath
    DifficultyHPLVSTRDEFEXPGOLD
    All Difficulties 28020121746001200

Another shoot-'em-up! Again, you can't hit him physically, so you have to rely on your Fire Magic. Hold down the magic button/key until it's charged, and in the meantime, move away from the beast as he's jumping toward you. Once he lands, let loose your charged fire and some smaller shots while you're at it, then quickly move away from him and position yourself between his ice shots.

You can pretty much say goodbye if you get caught in a direct line of ice, so stay on your toes and be quick to stay between them. As for when he lands... well, you REALLY don't want to be under him when he lands, or poor Adol will be squished to death in one blow.

If you need additional help, watch my boss fight on YouTube using the link below, or through the embedded video above!
    http://youtu.be/3r2T5EIBP5w

After the battle, hug the left wall and check it from top to bottom, and you should sneak into a secret path. Go north and east, and you'll find a chest where Tyalmath just was, and it has 1000 G! Cool! Return to the center of the room and proceed north through the doorway. You'll see an Herb to your north, so grab it if you like, then continue west into the Moat of Burnedbless. (The exit/entrance is on the top-left of the western wall.

In this first area, head northwest a bit for a quick bit of dialogue; there is apparently someone watching Adol, so go into your item menu and select, then use the Evil Bell to have a Roo pop out from the northeastern corner! Go over there to the edge near the lava, then go left and into the Roos' Nest!

    Roos' Nest

Yay, a new place! This means you can now use your Return Magic to return to either Lance Village OR the Roos' Nest, so you won't have to backtrack quite so much! Use your Alter Magic to turn into a Roo so that you can understand them when you talk to them. Talk to Roodle, Roo-kie, Rooroo, Brooce, Prooto, Tallyroo, Droozy, and Touroose. You can talk to Touroose to rest, so do so. While you're in here, make sure to get both the Roda Leaf and the Roda Fruit from the tree here. (Use the Roda Fruit first if it's in your inventory, if you like. This one will regenerate over time as well.)

Once you've talked to the Roos and have both items, head back out into the fiery abyss.

    Moat of Burnedbless

Examine the Goddess Statue for some more words of wisdom. Go through the doorway to the west of the statue to the next area, but keep an eye out; the enemies here can sometimes be hard to see, and can easily ambush you. There are three exits to this room; the bottom-right (from whence you came), the top-right, and the top-left. Go through the top-left exit first, and check the northwestern corner of this room to find another Iron Ore. Return to the previous room and take the top-right exit to the next, then keep moving east and north to the next exit at the top-right.

In this massive area, make your way to the far north as you fight the demons. You'll eventually hit the northern wall, and the next room is just to the west of it. In this small room, just head southwest, then northwest to the next area, which is just a bridge with a pretty view of the lava, so cross it to the west. In this pretty large area, you'll want to head all the way west until you hit the furthest wall, then hug this wall as you go north until you hit the furthest wall to the north. The path to the next area is just east from there, which then leads into the Colony of Lava!

    3000 G Flonne Darie
    Plate Mail Nash Rafa
    Large Shield Ischt Natalie
    Meryl Fred
    Ruba Chelnie
    Kasim Rex

Another town! It's now on your list of places you can use your Return Magic for! All right, let's start by adding to our Character Notebook once again! Talk to Carson at the entrance, then make your way around the village and meet Noit, Flonne, Nash, Ischt, Meryl, Ruba, Kasim, Elle, Favre, and Darie. Visit the houses next; Rafa is in Noit's House just north of the entrance, so visit her first. The house above Noit's is empty, so go to the one to the lower-right of it to find Natalie and Fred inside of Fred's House. Lastly, just below that is Rex's House, so talk to Chelnie and Rex inside.

After talking to everyone, use your Alter Magic to turn into a Roo, then go to the north side of the colony and talk to Ruba once again. After learning the truth about why he's guarding the bridge, turn back into Adol and talk to him once again, and after hearing the rest of the story, choose Offer to rescue Tarf to continue. You'll receive a set of Whisper Earrings, which will allow you to listen more sharply and possibly hear where his son is.

Now, Nash it the man you want to see next, and he's wandering between the well and Tarf's House. Give him 5-7 of your consumable items (depending on how many times you set him on fire), and he'll give you some Raw Meat. (As with the Smoked Meat, if you eat it, offer him another item, and he'll give you another meat to have. You can only have one at a time, but can do this as many times as you want.)

Now that you can easily travel, I recommend upgrading to the third set of armor. You'll need 11,000 G and the Iron Ore, so if you have it, great! If not, just grind a bit until you have it. You should also be at about level 26 by now as well, so keep that in mind. Once you have the 11,000 G, use your Return Magic and head back to Lance Village.

    Lance Village

Make your way to Guido's once more, and like last time, agree to sell the Iron Ore you found for 3000 G. Now, go ahead and drop 8000 G on the Plate Mail, as well as the 6000 G on the Large Shield. Also take the time to stock up on any Herbs, Apples, or Marle Flowers if needed, and be sure to rest to recover your lost MP. Once you're done, Return back to the Roos' Nest and exit to the Moat of Burnedbless.

    Note...

For those of you playing on Steam, MAKE SURE that you have 3 Apples, 3 Marle Flowers, and at least 1 Herb for an upcoming Achievement. May as well get 3 of each.

    Moat of Burnedbless

Head west past the statue to the next area with the three exits. Take the upper-left exit as you did before, but this time, instead of just taking the Iron Ore and leaving, head to the lower-left and go through the doorway here to the next area. Cross the bridge to the west here to the next large area, then make your way north while staying close to the eastern edge. When you can't go any further north, STOP! Take a moment to equip the Roda Leaf, then proceed west and through the doorway here to a poison-filled area. Since you have the Roda Leaf equipped, you will be fine, so just pass through it to the next area.

Be very careful in these areas; the monsters are quite a bit tougher, and can kill you fairly quickly. You MAY want to turn into a Roo while you're just hunting items and exploring, and save the battles for later. There are three exits in this room; the lower-right (from whence you came), the upper-right, and the lower-left. Head west from where you came and go through the lower-left door to another room. Head north, but search the western wall as you go, and you should come across an Herb on the left side, behind a rock. More importantly, continue north past that, and you'll find a statue with a Black Pearl embedded within. Choose Yes to take it, and you'll receive the Black Pearl.

Head back to the last room, then head north and take the upper-right exit to the next room. You'll want to do the same in this room; head north and take the upper-right exit, and you'll come to your destination. Approach the crack in the wall at the top of the screen, then equip the Whisper Earrings. Examine the crack now, and you'll find Tarf behind the wall! After some discussion, you'll hand the Black Pearl over to him, and the wall will be blasted open! After talking with Tarf some more, he'll ask you to escort him back to the village, so go ahead and tell him Yes to have him start following you! Make sure to actually TALK with Tarf to get his Notebook entry!

    Steam Achievements

There are two Achievements you can earn with Tarf if your party, and both take some time and effort. If you want to get them, then follow along! I'll cover both the Police Are On Their Way and Personal Trainer Achievements here in the same section.

Once Tarf joins you, go ahead and give him 7 of your 9 consumable items (Apples, Marle Flowers, and 1 Herb), and he will increase to level 2! With this, he will now actually help you attack enemies around you! He is still very weak, so be sure to SAVE so that if something does happen, you can just reload and try again. For now, let's focus on getting him closer to the beginning of the dungeon so we can work on fighting enemies that aren't as deadly to the both of us.

Go ahead and head north out of the cell, then east to the next area. In this next area, just go east to the next area, then east some more to the one after. Ignore him as he tells you that this isn't the way to the village. In this area, move southeast, then northeast to the next area, which is the second huge area with a ton of monsters. Be very careful as you make your way all the way south, then take the lower-left exit to the prior area.

In this smaller room, head southwest to return to the first three exit room, then lead Tarf to the upper-left exit, where you'll finally come to the room where you found the Iron Ore. Lead Tarf over to this corner, then quickly run behind him and start shooting fireballs at him. Keep doing so until he's backed all the way into the upper-left corner, then run up to him and get his measurements, earning you quite possibly the most disturbing Achievement Steam has to offer: Police Are On Their Way. (See the picture below for the location.)

Now, go ahead and SAVE, as we're going to be working on getting Tarf leveled up! Make sure that you have PLENTY of MP; if you don't, leave Tarf in this room and go back to Lance Village to heal and restock. Don't worry; he'll be waiting for you when you get back.

To level up Tarf, go ahead and enter the area with monsters, either the Preliguards or the Onumans, as long as there is only one of them at a time to fight. Turn into a Roo, then stand between Tarf and the monster, letting Tarf take his time at throwing the rocks. (You can even talk to the beasts to momentarily distract them.) It'll probably take a good two or three minutes for him to take it out, but once he does, he'll level up a decent amount! Keep doing this until he reaches level 25; it took me about 20 minutes to do so, but once you do, you'll have the Personal Trainer Achievement.

To get back to the room after Tarf's cell, take the upper-right exit in the first room with monsters, then take the upper-right exit in the next room. In the huge area, backtrack all the way north, then west to the next area, then southwest and northwest to the area after. Just head west in this straightforward area, and you'll be back to that room; Tarf's cell is just to the left.

"Measuring" Tarf. Yes, it is disturbing.

From Tarf's cell, head north out of the cell, then east to the next area. In this next area, head north while staying close to the western wall, and you'll eventually come to the northern wall. Head east from here to the next area, then east some more across this area to arrive back at the Colony of Lava. Take him into the village, and Ruba will thank you, as well as lower the bridge. With that small adventure done, you'll also earn a whopping 900 EXP! Take the time now to return to Lance Village to recover and restock, then come back to the Colony of Lava and proceed to the top part of the village, talking to Ruba to lower the bridge. Head north over it, then east to the next area.

    Note...

If you're not at level 28 by now, take the time to grind over the next couple of areas until you reach 28. There's a boss coming up very soon.

Head all the way south, then check to the east/northeast to find an old chest; inside will be 2000 G! Head north past the entrance now, then turn east, following the path as it turns south, then west to the next area. It's another short bridge area here, so continue west to the next area, then follow the path as it goes west, then zigzagging north until you reach the boss door. Make sure that you have the Cleria Ring (since your Hawk Idol may make you aim at the wrong target), your Herbs, and your Fire Magic equipped, and that you're fully healed. When you're ready, go through the door to take on the freakishly freaky looking Gelaldy! Yikes!

    Gelaldy
    DifficultyHPLVSTRDEFEXPGOLD
    All Difficulties 360271639910002000

This jerk is going to give me nightmares. *shudder* Anyhow, you'll only be able to hit him when his mouth is open, so when it's closed, you should be charging your Fire Magic. Once his mouth does open, take a few shots, but don't linger too long, as a really long purple worm will come out and start chasing you. Keep your distance from it, but keep in mind that it takes the same path you do, so don't accidently trap yourself within the worm's start of the body and end of it, or you'll take a whole heap of damage. In the meantime, the giant head of Gelaldy will be chasing after you, so stay out of its path as well. After a little bit of running, he'll open his mouth again, and the worm will crawl back in, so take that opportunity to fire off several more shots.

As long as you keep your Fire Magic charged until his mouth is open, you should be able to take him out after a few flurries of fireballs to his worm-infested throat. Just stay on the run and try not to let the worm trap you. Keep in mind that near the end, it'll make Gene enemies appear to distract you; try to ignore them unless they're directly in your way.

If you need additional help, watch my boss fight on YouTube using the link below, or through the embedded video above!
    http://youtu.be/I4NEmzJdC1M

After the battle, head north through the doorway, then follow the path east through two rooms, then keep on going as it turns north. You'll eventually wind up in Ramia Village!

    Note...

Before continuing on, we have quite the rough dungeon ahead of us after Ramia Village. Take the time now, if you haven't already, to fill up your Monster Notebook, getting every entry from every enemy until now. For the Solomon Shrine, I recommend having the best equipment available thus far, as well as being at least at level 30. To get the best equipment, you'll need 26,000 G. It will take some time, but it is almost necessary. Right now, the best place to grind for both (once you have all of the bestiary entries) is in the area of the Moat of Burnedbless where you found the Black Pearl, fighting the Magnutes and the Topuses.

So those are your two goals:

      1. Get to at least level 30!
      2. Get at least 26,000 G!
