Sugar/Rum or Tobacco/Cigars?
One farm of each in the best possible conditions for either, what nets the most positive income?
By extension, which of (1 sugar farm + 1 rum factory) or (1 tobacco farm + 1 cigar factory) would make the most money? AznFool - 11 years ago
The best answer is that it really depends on your island. Some islands are more suited for the rum production chain, others for the cigars.
All things being otherwise equal, I will typically build tobacco/cigars first for the following reasons:
1) Cigar factory produces the highest per unit export by default, you have to do the 'Spiced Rum' upgrade ($15,000) to get a comprable price for rum.
2) Excess raw tobacco typically has a higher export value than raw sugar ($1500 vs $1200)
3) The cigar factory will have a higher job satisfation rating (using the 'Skylights' upgrade) than the distillery, and this slightly improves your happiness rating.
4) The cigar factory does not need to be connected to a power grid to get good yields, rum production suffers more without electricity. salt_strike - 10 years ago
