Menus/Options translation complete. Version .05 (May 2006): First public release. Prologue translation complete; Introduction section complete; Search System added; FAQ section, Notes section, and Credits section begun. Introduction [Intr2] ------------------------------ Welcome to the Saphizm no Gensou Translation Project! Am I insane, you ask, for trying to translate this monstrous chunk of text all by myself? Why, yes! And if you knew how I went about doing the translation, you'd probably think that 'insane' was too mild a term. But, you know what they say: Insane people have more fun! Anyway, this is my first FAQ, and my first real translation project, so if you see something that isn't right, feel free to let me know. But don't be too mean about it, okay? I'm still just trying to figure this whole thing out. Notes [Note3] ------------------------------ Search System: Using Ctrl + F, you can quickly find the section or scene you want. Each main section heading is coded with four characters + the number of the section. In the translation section, each heading has its own code, following the pattern of Three Letter Subsection Code + two digit number. MN ('main') marks the start of each subsection, and headings count up from there. For example: if you wanted to find the fourth scene in the Soyoung Path, you would type Soy (The code for the Soyoung path subsection) + 04, so [Soy04]. Regarding Japanese Honorifics: After much internal debate, I decided to leave the honorifics in 'as is'. Although I would rather this guide be as friendly as possible for people with no background in Japanese, they don't translate well, and I feel that if I don't leave them in, we would end up losing too many important story points. For those unfamiliar with the Japanese honorific system, Wikipedia has an excellent article on them at (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_titles). Repeated Scenes: Most of the scenes and flavor conversations involving the secondary characters (such as Helena or Eliza) can appear in all three storylines and at multiple points within each storyline as well. Rather than bloat this translation by including the full text every time they appear, I'm going to simply place a Search System Link to the correspoding scene or flavor conversation in the Omake section instead. I realize that this may make things a little confusing, but the alternative would make this guide much bigger than it needs to be. Frequently Asked Questions [FAQs4] ------------------------------ Q:"Why can't I access Liarsoft's website (http://www.liar.co.jp/)? A: For some unfathomable reason, Liarsoft decided to block United States IPs from their site. It's just U.S. IPs, too. I've tested it with U.K., Italian, and South Korean IPs and it worked fine. If you live in the States, and you really want to access Liarsoft's site, head to (http://wiki.ehow.com/Surf-the-Web-Anonymously-With-Proxies). The write-up there should be enough to get you started. Just do me a favor and stay away from the BBS, 'mkay? Q:"Where can I get a copy of this game?" A: Last I checked (http://www.himeyashop.com/), where I got mine, still had a few copies left, but the game went out of print -- at least for the time being -- in March '06, so it might get kinda tricky to find pretty soon. Occaisionally Yahoo Japan's auction section will have a few copies up, but the trick there is finding someone who's willing to ship outside of Japan. Q:"I found a bit of translation you did that I don't agree with." A: Feel free to send me an e-mail about it! I'm pretty new to this whole translation thing, so I'm sure I've made more than a few mistakes. Bear in mind, though, I reserve the right stick with what I've got if I think it works better, alright? Q:"Hey, this project's pretty nifty. Can I help in some way? A: Sure! If you have a decent working knowledge of Japanese (or really good dictionary skills) and want to help with translation, drop me a line and we'll get something set up. Aside from that, help with editing is always welcome, either in translation-checking as above, or just the after-the-fact English. Or you could just cheer me on from the sidelines, I'd appreciate that too. Q:"How do I get to this one scene..." A: Whoa, hold on a sec. This is a translation, not a walkthrough. I can't help with game-play questions other than what you can already find in the game. I don't mean to be a jerk about this, it's just that the translation alone is enough of a drain on my time and patience without having to field general game questions, too. On the other hand, though, if anyone wants to do a proper walkthrough using this translation they're more than welcome to. Just give me credit where it's due. Q:"Can I host this translation on my site?" A: Well, as it says in the copyright notice, you'll need to e-mail me and get permission first. I'll more than likely give you the go-ahead; I just want to know exactly where this guide is and what's being done with it. Translation [TrMN5] ------------------------------ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Menus/Options [MOpMN] ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Main Menu: [MOp01] ****************************** 1st Button: Start from the Begining (As it says, it starts the game from the very begining. All you can really do to begin with.) 2nd Button: Start from the Main Story (Not availible initially, it's just a blank space until you complete the Prologue. Starts you from the start of the main storyline, where you pick which path you want to take.) 3rd Button: Continue Play (Load from a previously saved game.) 4th Button: Settings (Takes you to the Options Menu.) 5th Button: Extras (Takes you to the Extras Menu.) 6th Button: Sapphic Illusions (Only appears once you have finished all three paths through the game. Contains extra scenes that are unlocked as you complete each secondary character's storyline.) 7th Button: Exit Game (I wonder...) ****************************** Options Menu: [MOp02] ****************************** First Page: Screen Windowed Mode/Fullscreen Mode (Rather self-explanatory. Windowed Mode makes the game run in an 800x600 window, while Fullscreen Mode makes the game run fullscreen. Note that you can't alt-tab while the game is in Fullscreen Mode.) Message Speed Slow/Medium/Fast (Again, just what it says. Slow makes the text crawl across the text box, medium moves it along at a respectable speed, and fast makes it appear instantly. Note that you can't access the options menu while the text is scrolling, and that you can click on the screen to force it all to appear, no matter what the speed.) Message Skip Skip Unread Messages/Do Not Skip Unread Messages (This determines what happens when you use the Skip feature on the text box. With Skip Unread Messages on, it will skip ahead to the next point at which your input is required, i.e. a dialogue choice, or the map screen. With Do Not Skip Unread Messages selected the Skip feature will also stop if it comes to text that you haven't seen yet, as well as at an input point.) Picture Effect Special Picture Effects On/Special Picture Effects Off (Enables or disables, respectively, special effects -- such as fading in and out or moving across the screen -- during the dialog scenes.) Second Page: Music Music On/Music Off (Turns the music on and off.) Voice Voice On/Voice Off (Turns the voice-overs on and off.) Sound Effects S.E. On/S.E. Off (Turns the game's sound effects on and off. This affects both the game's effects, like the clicking sounds, as well as the background effects in the main story, such as bells, ocean waves, etc.) Return to the Title (Takes you back to the Main Menu.) Exit Game (Only appears in the in-game right click menu. Does what it says.) ****************************** Extras Menu: [MOp03] ****************************** 1st Button: CG Gallery (Allows you to view any of the CGs you've seen thus far in the game.) 2nd Button: Scene Select (Allows you to revisit any of the major scenes you've gone through in the game.) 3rd Button: Music Select (Lets you listen to any of the music tracks from the game. Unlike the other extras, these are all availible from the start.) 4th Button: Flavor Scenarios (The Flavor Scenarios are the little side conversations you have with various characters which have little or nothing to do with the main plot. These are unlocked as you come across them in the game.) 5th Button: Go Back (Takes you back to the Main Menu.) ****************************** ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Prologue [ProMN] ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Scene 1: [Pro01] ****************************** "A rough panting could be heard, flowing out from within the darkness." "Hints of despair could be found in that near bestial sound." Girl "Ah! Haah... No!" "Out of the gloom, a faint light reflected off of a pale, nude body." "Also, a menacing black shadow could just be made out." "This girl had been taken prisoner, unable to resist as she was toyed with." Girl "No, please... Stop it!" "Her violation had already been such that this weak speech was her only defiance." Girl "Please... I'm begging you, I won't tell anyone, just please let me go!" "How many times had those same words been repeated?" "But her tormentor continued on like some machine, seemingly oblivious to her words." Girl "No! It, it hurts!" "There wasn't much that was done that could have been called 'caressing'." "Her breasts were swollen from her tormentor's rough handling, her womanhood had been rubbed raw, and she was curled up on the bed, cold and afraid." "Her tormentor seemed to have been declaring that her will, her feelings, anything at all, didn't matter in the least." Girl "*Sob*... No, no more!" "Again, the girl began to weep. Her will to resist withered in the face of her fear and despair." "But, when she felt something hard push against her lower petals, her eyes opened wide behind her blindfold." Girl "Eee! You're, you're not...?" "But, of course, there was no reply." Girl "U, uwaaa--! It hurts! You can't...! Stop it--!" "Though she tried to keep it out, the shaft continued to push it's way in." Girl "Take it out! It hurts so much! This... Nooooo--!!" "The girl, crying and disheveled, screamed for help, but, in the end, no one was there to save her." ****************************** *Roll credits* ****************************** Scene 2: [Pro02] ****************************** Principal "Anri Anriette-kun." Anri "Yes, Principal." "Anri Anriette." "The hero of this story. An second year student on the school-ship H.B. Polestar. Her cheefully innocent demeanor has made her a lot of friends, and just as many enemies." "A lesbian who prefers younger pretty girls, she has many lovers all over the school, calling each one 'My darling little kitten.'" "She thinks of herself as a 'lesbian prince.'" Principal "You're being expelled." Anri "Is that right?" Anri "...." Anri "Expelled?" Principal "Yes, Expelled." "Literally steering the entire school on her own, the President made this announcement in a conversational tone, her hands firmly placed on the wheel." Anri "Umm.... May I ask why?" "The girl called Anri asked with a hint of resignation in her voice." "It was widely known that any notice of this sort that came from the Principal herself always seemed like a joke." "Like the time she said she would drive right into the heart of a storm, or the time she broadcast to the entire school that they were about to ram into an American nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. Seemingly completely serious each time." "And if this time she truly was serious... What possible reason could she have had?" "As one might expect, there had been a few cases where the reason wasn't really... reasonable." Principal "The why is *that*. The Case of the Repeated Assaults. Of couse, you know all about it, right?" Anri "That is, well.... It is pretty much the only thing anyone's talking about these days." Anri "The rumor is all over the place. In fact, ever since the gag order was imposed, it seems to have spread even more." Anri "Three people have already been attacked, right? What in the world is PS (Polarstar Security) doing? Why aren't they doing their jobs?" Principal "PS is working tirelessly on this case. And, I regret to say, apparently there was a fourth victim last night." Principal "As you might expect, we are rapidly approaching our limits here." Anri "Yeah...." Anri "Huh?" Anri "Wait just a second. Is there some connection between these attacks and why I'm being expelled?" Anri "No way.... You can't think that I...!" Principal "Hmm? What's with this 'I can't'?" Principal "At the staff meeting held early this morning, the decision was reached that you are, in fact, the perpatrator of these crimes, and were thus sentenced to expulsion as punishment." Anri "...." Principal "It seems that PS has considered you their prime suspect for some time now." Anri "I have had the feeling that someone was watching me lately." Anri "Nevertheless, I swear to you that I did not commit these crimes." Principal "Since your normal behavior is just so perfect, right?" Principal "In my opinion, the circumstantial evidence alone is enough to prove that you're our criminal." Anri "This, coming from an educator!?" Principal "Before I am Principal, I am the captain of this ship, dammit!" Principal "Your education is the teachers' job." Anri "She is so unreasonable...." Principal "Well, since the victims aren't likely to press any charges, we won't turn you over to the police." Principal "You will be put off the ship at our next port of call.... After that, you are free to do as you please." Anri "So you're not going to give me a chance to prove I'm innocent?" Principal "As I mentioned before, you have a certain unsavory reputation around this school." Principal "And if, while PS has you detained, the incidents cease, then that's all the proof we really need, yes?" Anri "This is beyond 'not doing their jobs.' Drubbing up false charges like this is illegal, you know." Principal "What are you talking about? This decision was made by a two-thirds majority vote, as is required by school regulations." Principal "If you have any complaints, please file them with the Department of Foreign Affairs, once you return home." Anri "...She just won't shut up..." Anri "You know, I came to this school because I thought it was the one that best suited me. I'm feeling a little like I've been betrayed right now." Principal "Is that so...." Principal "We have about three weeks until we reach our next port of call." Anri "Yeah, that's when the graduating Visitor Class goes ashore, right?" Principal "There will be a big farewell party the day before." Anri "Oh really? ...So?" Principal "So if you were to clear your name, it would likely have to be by then, don't you think?" Principal "I mean, since you will be put ashore the next day, there won't really be enough time to hold a meeting to have your punishment reversed." Principal "And if there is definite proof that you are not the criminal, then maybe certain people will refrain from saying such harsh things about you in the future." Anri "So you're saying I have to go out and find the real criminal?" Principal "I said nothing of the sort. Until such time that you leave this ship, you will be confined to your quarters." Principal "Of course, I suppose it would be rather difficult to truly confine someone with as many friends as you have." Anri "For some reason, I get the feeling I'm getting screwed over here." Principal "Then what else would you suggest I do with you, Miss Officially Confirmed Criminal?" Anri "...." Principal "For the time being, please return to your quarters. You will, of course, not be required to attend classes." Principal "There should be a staff member waiting outside in the corridor. Please allow her to escort you." Principal "From this point forward, leaving your rooms without prior approval is prohibited. Now get out!" ****************************** Scene 3: [Pro03] ****************************** Anri "(Well, this isn't good.)" Anri "All I have to do is find, all by myself, the criminal that's managed to completely stump PS? Easy for her to say." Anri "...Detective work, huh? Not really my style." Eliza "Anri-sama." Eliza "I was very sorry to hear that you are being expelled. Would like me to help you with your packing?" Anri "'Staff member'... You're the one, Eliza?" "Eliza Lancaster" "One of the school's maids. Originally a student, but when her parent's buisness went under and they dissapeared, she elected to stay on board and work in order to escape the bill collectors." "She's had a pretty hard life, but she doesn't complain. Due to an odd quirk of Fate, she ended up as one of Anri's Kittens." Eliza "I have been ordered by the head maid to watch over you and make sure you don't try to escape." Anri "Oh yeah?" Anri "So, the head maid really has no clue about the two of us, huh?" Eliza "The only things that woman pays attention to are wrinkles in the sheets and and dust on the window frames." Eliza "And I am also careful not to do anything that might cause her to be suspicious." Anri "Hahahaha, is that why you volunteered to be my jailer, then? Once the truth about us gets out, you'll faint dead away." Eliza "At her age, the head maid would as well. Really, it's because I don't wish to worry her that I want our relationship to be kept secret." Chloe "What secret would that be?" Chloe "Most people don't like the idea of staff members and students getting any closer than necessary... Speaking of which, wasn't something like that mentioned at last month's assembly?" Anri "Hey, Chloe. Looking beautiful, as always." "Chloe Witherspoon" "The daughter of the man who designed the school ship Hanging Basket Polarstar." "She knows all the little secrets her mischievious father built into the ship, including ones even the staff don't know about. She looks like a nervous bookworm. She is also one of Anri's Kittens." Eliza "Good morning, Chloe-sama." Chloe "Ah, morning... Hey, Anri! What's all this talk about you being expelled?!" Eliza "Well, news sure travels fast." Chloe "Since the conversation they held over the speaking tubes this morning was leaked, it's been a pretty hot topic. 'The criminal is being expelled'? Do they really plan on going through with this?" Eliza "Chloe-sama, don't you think it is a bit unfair of you to eavesdrop on people with your secret speaking tubes?" Chloe "Considering that it was my father who designed the entire system, I really don't see what the problem is!" Eliza "I would say that private staff conversations being leaked to the entire ship is enough of a 'problem'." Chloe "That's all beside the point. Anri!" Anri "Yes, they decided I am to be expelled. That's not going to change now, no matter how much of a fuss I make." Chloe "So you're giving up? That's not the Anri I know. You've got to fight these false charges!" Eliza "So you don't think Anri-sama is behind the molestings, either?" Chloe "Isn't it obvious?" Chloe "Anri would never force... Well, she might do that, but she wouldn't ever hurt anyone!" Anri "To force a person isn't my way, either." Chloe "...I wonder. At any rate, I'm not the only one. Nobody who actually knows Anri at all believes this for one second." Anri "I Thank you, my dear Chloe. However, after this, I will be but a caged bird." Chloe "They've had you confined to quarters?" Eliza "Yes. After I have escorted Anri-sama to her rooms, I am to lock the door with this card-key." Eliza "This is a special key for staff use only, and without it, no one will be able to unlock her door." Chloe "...So, what you're saying is that she won't be able to leave her room without it." Eliza "Correct. Thus..." "Eliza handed the card-key over to Anri." Eliza "Now you can come and go as you please." Anri "Are you sure about this, Eliza?" Eliza "Yes. I shouldn't have any trouble fooling everyone for a little while." Chloe "If you're going to clear your name, this will make it much more convenient..." Chloe "...But if she's seen wandering the corridors, won't that make the situation even worse?" Eliza "If she is seen by anyone who is not on our side, the situation will already be as bad as it can get." Eliza "Besides, won't you be lonely if you are kept from seeing Anri whenever you wish?" "Anri and Eliza glanced casually at Chloe." Chloe "Not-not at all. I mean, it's like the thousand-year mating season around her!" Eliza "Well, if you feel like you have had too much lately, then this situation may help with that." Eliza "Well then, Anri-sama. If there is anything more I can do for you, please just let me know." Eliza "I am always willing to do whatever you ask of me." Chloe "...Yeah. As long as it doesn't cut into my reading too much, I'll help out too." Anri "Thank you, my cute little kittens." ****************************** Scene 4: [Pro04] ****************************** "Anri walked along, deep in thought." "She knew she needed to clear her name. She seemed calm on the surface as she hurried down the hall, but inside she was anything but." "Unfortunately, she didn't know where to start; who to go to or where to turn." "The only time her brain really got in gear was when she was trying to pick up a girl." Helena "Anri!? Are you supposed to be walking around unsupervised like this?" Anri "Ah, Helena. Though my heart is now like the clouded sky which no sunlight can breach, the sight of your always charming smile helps to brighten my life." "Helena Burliuka" "The girl who, due to her unyeilding sense of justice, is a member of the "Student Morality Committee". One of Anri's classmates." "One of Anri's Kittens, but she won't admit it. Her body, however, is much more honest, and can't deny her feelings." Helena "Idiot! What exactly to do you have to be so happy about!?" Helena "Everybody's saying you're supposed to be confined to quarters. Should you be walking around like this?" Anri "Oh for Heaven's sake.... Gossip sure travels fast around this boat." Anri "I know they say 'you can't keep people from talking', but there's just no way to keep a secret around here." Helena "Well, should you? Anri, are you listening!?" Nicolle "Hey, hey, Helena, do you you really need to make such a fuss?" Anri "Nicolle, 'morning. Couronne is looking well, too." "Nicolle Gerald" "Always gambling. After losing a bet with Anri, she became one of the Kittens." "This Borzoi, Couronne, is always with her, and is the only male aboard the Polarstar." Helena "Excuse me, Gerald-san. ...What exactly do you mean by that?" Nicolle "What, did you really think Anri was just gonna meekly go along with this?" Nicolle "So, what else'd ya get? Anything interesting?" Helena "Interesting...!?" Anri "I'm going to have to make it interesting. If I don't, I get expelled." Nicolle "Seriously? So you get to play detective, then? Haha, this should be a blast!" Anri "...This isn't funny, Nicolle. And, even if I wanted to 'play detective', I don't have the slightest idea where to start." Helena "Um, hold on for a second, Anri." Helena "'Play detective'... Then, you really aren't the criminal?" Anri "Come on now, Helena. Did you really think that I was?" Helena "B-but, that is... Because of how you always are, I-I..." Helena "...I mean, I didn't think that the talk about violence sounded like you, but I know how rumors exaggerate and..." Anri "Oooh, don't say such horrible things, Helena." Anri "I, unless I am certain she wishes it, will not so much as lay a hand on someone." Anri "I swear to God, I would hate to force a girl to do anything she didn'treally want to do." Helena "H-how can you say that, Anri!" Helena "No matter how many times I tell you 'no!', you never stop!" Nicolle "...Hmmm?" Helena "Ah! It... It's not like that, not like that at all, Nicolle!" Helena "Uh, Anri and I haven't... Something like that, I didn't mean to imply...!" Anri "Helena's reaction is always so cute." Helena "Anri, shut up! ...So you see, Nicolle..." Nicolle "Hey, you've got nothing to apologize to me for." Nicolle "I've got no desire to interfere in you guys' relationship." Helena "Listen! That's not how it is at all!!" Nicolle "You really won't own up about it, will you?" Helena "I'm telling you, there's no it! None at all! I -- something like that...!" Anri "Alright, alright, that's enough, Helena. You too, Nicolle." Anri "There's no need for you two to argue. I love you both, as much as I do all the other blessings of Heaven and Earth." Helena "I told you to stop talking like that!" Nicolle "...As a matter of fact, I'd say that right there is where most of her bigger problems start... Tch, well, whatever." Nicolle "So, what're your plans from here, Anri?" Anri "Hmm... I've had some time to think about it, but nothing's coming to mind." Nicolle "Yeah? Well, if there's anything I can do to help, just gimme a yell." Helena "Same here -- if you need anything, let me know." Anri "Thanks, you two." "After Helena and Nicolle left, the area suddenly went silent." "As she started walking again, Anri returned to her thoughts, trying to figure out where to start her investigations." ****************************** Scene 5: [Pro05] ****************************** "Obviously, even PS had had no luck in finding this criminal." "But, even though they lived onboard the school, they tended to look from the outside in." "Working from a student's prespective, Anri might be able to get information they couldn't." "Anri was an optimist right to her core, so even though she knew she was in a lot of trouble, she wasn't really worried." "If it was at all possible to solve this mystery, she would. Having reached this conclusion, she decided what her first goal would be." "Then, as Anri made her way toward the rooms of someone she knows she can trust to lend her a hand, she heard noisy laughter." "'Quiet and reserved young women.' -- The school's motto was quite unusual." Soyoung "Alright, cut it out! If the Etiquette teacher heard you shouting like this, she'd be very cross!" "A new voice called out, striving to be heard over the laughter." Soyoung "Sheesh...! Look, everyone just quiet down!" Soyoung "If Joanna-sensei sees you all like this, she'll make you do three sets of Grace Aquisitions!" Soyoung "And I don't think anyone will enjoy that." Anri "Ah-hah, it's the Visitor Class... And Fan Soyoung, too." "Anri was familiar with this noisy bunch." "It was clear that these were the girls of the Visitor Class." "And the girl struggling to keep them all under control was Fan Soyoung." "A first year student. In a school where every person was competing to be the best and brightest, she was considered to be a little odd." "So she tended to stand out." "Soyoung noticed that Anri was looking her way, and began to bow." Soyoung "Ah...! A very good morning to you, Anri-senpai!" Anri "Morning, Soyoung. You're looking well." Soyoung "Yes.... Huh? You know my name?" "Fan Soyoung" "An energetic girl from South Korea. She really tries to be helpful, which, at this school for young ladies, is somewhat unusual." "Thus she is often employed by the teachers to look after the younger students." Anri "There aren't very many students at this school, so talk about new people tends to travel fast." Anri "Especially if she's really cute." Soyoung "Eh...? Oh..." "Soyoung smiled blankly. It seemed she wasn't used to such talk." Clare "Um, Anri-senpai... right? You can call me Clare." "The girl was was hanging from Soyoung's right arm bowed in greeting. This meant there were now two heads bobbing up and down." Mirriela "I'm Mirriela. Pleased to meet you, Anri-senpai." "As the girl to Soyoung's left introduced herself, Anri stared, sensing a strange light coming from her." Coe "Heya, I'm Coe!" "The last girl popped up with a bright smile. These three girls were always together; Anri had often spotted them around the school." "All the other girls began to bow in greeting, but they were also watching Anri warily." Anri "Hello there, Clare, Mirriela, Coe. It's such a pity that we shall have to say farewell after a mere three weeks." "Although Anri's smile was sincere, Coe gave her a doubtful look." Coe "But don't you leave at the same time?" Coe "So we won't need to say goodbye for a while after that." Anri "Huh?" Soyoung "H-hey now, Coe!" "Soyoung hastily covered Coe's mouth." Clare "Ah, then, Anri-senpai really is the criminal, like all the rumors are saying?" Mirriela "And the talk about you being expelled?" Soyoung "Clare! Mirriela! Cut it out!" Anri "I give up.... All of you know about that too? I'm starting to think I was the last one to find out I was being expelled." Soyoung "A-ah, please forgive us, Anri-senpai." Anri "Don't call me 'senpai', I really don't care for such formailities." Soyoung "--Eh?" Anri "I would be much happier if you would just call me by my name." Soyoung "Ehh!? But, to call a senpai by name...!?" Soyoung "I couldn't.... Maybe... Anri-san?" Anri "Yeah. That's good enough." Clare "Um...." "Clare, having watched this exchange, interrupted hesitantly." Clare "So, are you the criminal, or what?" Soyoung "Clare! You mustn't say such things!" "Before Anri could even open her mouth, Soyoung started scolding Clare in a firm voice." Soyoung "Everyone says there's no proof. And, really, even if it is the official story, does Anri-san look like someone who would do such a thing?" Mirriela "...Soyoung-chan, you can't judge something like that based on looks alone." Soyoung "So you think that Anri-san really is the criminal, then?" Mirriela "Mmm... I wonder?" Clare "Anri-senpai, are you the criminal or not?" Anri "Though the only proof I can give is my word, I swear that I have not ever forced anyone to do anything." Coe "Ah, so it's true you have 'different preferences.'" Soyoung "Coe, really! Preferences, priciples, things like that, to each their own..." Soyoung "As long as it doesn't upset anyone..." Mirriela "This has been upsetting people, hasn't it?" Anri "I'll say it again. I haven't forced myself on anyone. The criminal isn't me." "Soyoung nodded in understanding, while behind her, the three girls exchanged glances." Anri "The part about me being expelled is true, though." Anri "Actually, I have been given a small chance to clear my name. If I can find the real criminal before the party three weeks from now, my expulsion will be cancelled." Clare "So then, you really aren't the criminal?" Anri "I'm telling you, I would hate to force myself on anybody." Anri "A girl must be treated gently, and with the greatest care. Like so--" "With her fingertips, Anri lightly tickled the back of Clare's neck. Just this was enough to make Clare jump back as if shocked." Clare "Hyaa!?" Anri "--See? To force her would be wrong." Soyoung "A-Anri-san!?" Coe "Uwa, Clare's turning all red!" "Just then, the bell rang, catching the attention of the Visitor Class." Soyoung "Alright everyone, time to head to the little theater. Quickly now." Soyoung "Well then... erm, Anri-san. Please do your best to find the real criminal." Clare "G-goodbye." Mirriela "...Later." Coe "Bye-bye!" Anri "Take care of yourselves, okay?" "Busily seeing them off, Anri breathed a small sigh." "Though it wasn't apparent in their voices, Anri could see the deep suspicion in each girl's eyes." "It seemed she was seen as the villian after all. But--" Anri "Well, whatever. Now, to Kanae-san's room." "Though she wasn't really happy about it, Anri wasn't the sort to let how other people thought about her bother her much." ****************************** Scene 6: [Pro06] ****************************** "Anri rang the bell, there was no response from Tenkyouin Kanae's room." Anri "...She's not here, huh?" Anri "Strange that she'd be out. Where could she have gone?" Anri "She definitely wouldn't be at class.... Did she run out of coffee again?" "Anri waited for a little while, but no one showed up. Eventually she gave up and walked away." Anri "Classes... Nah, can't do that. Now what? Go kill some time in my room?" "Though she'd often skipped classes before, now that someone had told her 'you can't go,' she didn't know what else to do with her time." "The entire school had more or less been her living space, so having so many places cut off from her made her feel extremely restricted." Anri "(...Although I hadn't thought about it until now.)" Anri "Nicolle's saying, 'just a prettied up prison' isn't that far off, huh? Mm." "This floating flower garden was created by parents' ego's desire to protect their precious daughters from horrible little insects." "The place had always been Heaven to Anri, so she had no complaints, but it was only natural that there were people who found her presence to be unpleasant." Anri "Even so, I wouldn't have expected to accused of something like this. --Oh!?" "The girl walking down the corridor looked at her questioningly." "Anri answered that look, a mixture of wariness and curiousity, with her best smile." Anri "Morning, Alma Hamilton." Alma "Ah...!? G-good morning..." "Alma Hamilton" "A first year student from Scandinavia. Though not wise to the ways of the world, she was first or second in the entire school in terms of grades." "She tends to lose track of where she is. This may be why, despite having a relatively large number of friends, she is often alone." "She was the type that Anri secretly desired most in a lover. Like Soyoung, she was a girl who had lived a sheltered, picturesque life." "It was unusual for Anri to make her move so quickly, as this was the first time they'd spoken." "Even though they'd been more or less alone together many times before, every time Anri tried to stop to talk..." Wells "Please wait, Ojou-sama!" (TL Note: Ojou-sama is a highly polite term for a young girl, and is frequently used by the hired help of a wealthy family to refer to their employer's daughter. Like the honorifics, it doesn't translate very well without sounding stupid, so I left it in.) "She was always repelled by this stubborn guardian." Anri "Th-this again?" Wells "You need not greet such an infamous personage as this, Ojou-sama. This skirt chaser is a blight upon the school!" Alma "Wells-san, don't be so..." Wells "Nay!! I have been given strict orders by your Lord Father as to your daily activities." Wells "From what I have heard, this 'Anri-sama' is supposed to have been confined to quarters as a suspect in the recent molestings." Wells "If I were to allow you to greet such a disgraceful personage as her, I would never be able to face your Lord Father again!" Anri "I thought for sure we were alone. ...This person moves like a shadow." Alma "But Wells-san, we must be polite...." Wells "Politeness is a fuction of the time, the circumstances, and the other party." Wells "I feel that a person of such shamless sensitivities as her will survive even if not greeted properly!" Anri "Oh no, if I am not greeted by Alma, might I not waste away from sheer loneliness?" Alma "See? Just like she says." Wells "It's a trap! You mustn't let your guard down, Ojou-sama!" Anri "That's right, even in such a careless action as a simple greeting there is deep, hidden meaning." Wells "You must not be fooled by her smile! The fact that you are returning her smile with another smile is proof that you have fallen for her tricks!" Alma "Is... that so?" Anri "That's easily fixed. We just have to speak more often, and become 'people who know each other.'" Wells "I'm not going to give you that chance." Anri "I figured as much. I'm sure you've got a few tricks of your own?" Wells "Oh yes, yes! You should have noticed it sooner, that that 'good morning' was merely a snare I had set!" Alma "...It was?" Anri "Not at all, Alma. You see, this person is one that no one has ever wanted to touch, so..." Alma "Ohh... Wells-san, you poor dear." Wells "Hold it!" "That thudering roar stopped the conversation cold. Anri could see the flames of hatred flickering behind Wells's glasses." Wells "I would appreciate it if you would stop conversing so casually!" Anri "Nah, talking with you two has been far too interesting." Wells "It's not for you to decide! Let us leave, Ojou-sama." Wells "Anri-sama, if you will excuse us." Alma "F-farewell..." Anri "Yeah, I'll be seeing you." Wells "You didn't need to speak to her, Ojou-sama." Alma "B-but..." "Anri heaved a sigh, waving to Alma, who looked back over shoulder occaisonally." Anri "The poor thing... With a guardian like that, she'll just end up as some narrow-minded lump." Anri "Somehow, she seems like a captive princess, yearning to be rescued...." Anri "But I should probably worry about myself first. I guess I could go take a bath while I wait for Kanae-san to get back." ****************************** Scene 7: [Pro07] ****************************** Anri "Hmm hmm, hmhmhmhm, hmmhmmhmmmm. Hmm hmm, hmhmhmhm, hmmhmmhmmm." Anri "Mmm, that feels good. It just has to be a bath, I really don't understand how some people can be satisfied with only a shower." "Although she only meant to stretch out in the how water, Anri ended up spending a full hour enjoying the bath life, a faint sheen of sweat on her skin." Anri "Mom liked it warm, but she'd always add some cold water to cool it down... I guess that was okay, too." Anri "Ahh, even if I do get expelled, I'll find a way to make it work out somehow." Anri "...." Anri "Well, that's just not going to happen. Time to head back to Kanae-san's place." "Maybe she had just gone out to make a purchase." "Thinking this, Anri decided to stop by Shop Street on her way to Tenkyouin's room." "In order to maintain the level of luxury the students were used to, an avenue lined with specialist shops that rivaled any of the high-class shopping streets was built on board." "As one might expect, these shops also did a lot of buisiness in imports." "In truth, even though they were in the middle of the ocean, there was practically nothing a person couldn't obtain from these shops." "And since private post addressed to the students wasn't inspected, items that were against school regulations had started showing up as well." Anri "In the end, any time a group of people find a good way to make money, someone winds up losing out." Anri "Oops, sorry." Aisha "...." "The girl who had collided with Anri's shoulder ran off with no more than a quick glance behind." Anri "...Don't know the face. Oh, but that was a third-year's uniform." "It was a little curious that Anri didn't know the girl, given their enclosed society, but Anri was thoroughly uninterested in any girl older than her, so it wasn't impossible." "Every senior student who had tried to make advances had been turned down." "The only upperclassman she talked to regularly was the one she was going to meet, Tenkyouin." ****************************** Scene 8: [Pro08] ****************************** "Immeadiately driving her chance encounter with the third-year from her mind, Anri peered into a nearby shop." "Her ability to do this so quickly was one of those qualities that no one could really hate, and yet still seemed to earn her a lot of enemies." "Putting all that aside, Tenkyouin was what was important." "If she had indeed gone out to do some shopping, she would have been in this area, but there was no sign of her. Perhaps she had returned to her room already." Anri "To her room, then." "Just as Anri was ready to walk away, bang! someone ran into her back." Niki "...!" Anri "If it isn't Niki! What's the matter?" "Niki Baltretti" "Her father is an internationally renowned musician, and her mother is a famous Opera singer." "She rarely comes out in public. She isn't mute, but she has trouble speaking around other people. She communicates solely with gentures." "She is one of Anri's Kittens." Niki "...!" Anri "...Mm-hmm?" "Before Niki could finish her franticaly gentured appeal, Anri had tilted her head to the side, puzzled." "This girl wasn't used to being in a place with so many people. She worked even more desperately to make herself understood." Niki "...!" Anri "I'm sorry, Niki. You need to calm down a bit. You're moving too fast for me to keep up." Niki "...." "Growing impatient at being unable to make herself understood, Niki's shoulders drooped in despair." Anri "It's okay, I'll get it next time for sure. Give it another try?" Anne Shirley "Goodbye, I wish you farewell~~." Anri "--Mm?" Anne Shirley "She's saying goodbye to you, Anri." "Anne Shirley Bancroft" "The daughter of a Columbian druglord, her speech and conduct are a bit dubious." "One of Anri's Kittens, but she doesn't seem to grasp quite what that means." Anri "Really?" Niki "...!!!" Anne Shirley "That's "Thank you for these beautiful memories; as two who are being watched over by the radience of the Southern Cross, we will engrave them deeply upon the albums of our hearts, never to fade away."" Niki "...!! ......!!!" Anri "...Is that really what she's saying?" Anne Shirley ""I am ultra-serious. No matter what they tell you, spending five dollars at Irorian for Koikuchi Udon and a watery coffee is just too much. A dollar twenty-five is more like it."" (TL note: Irorian is a chain of bakery/resturants in Japan. Koikuchi Udon is a Japanese noodle dish made from wheat noodles and dark soy sauce.) Niki "...! ......!! ......!!!" Anne Shirley ""Now I must see you off with that great inspiration, as that will be the last of such philosophical points. As for your new home, it will be to the northeast and ornamented with the blessings of the Thistle and the Mock Strawberry."" Niki "......ng!" "Anri scratched her head at Anne Shirley's continuing calm commentary, causing Niki to stamp her feet." Anri "...Hey, Anne Shirley, who are you translating for?" "Anne Shirley, with a momentary blank look, pointed in the direction of Anri's temple." "There, that person who was spinning around a second ago. She's kind of like a guardian spirit from your past life. She comes from Andromeda." Anri
"I haven't seen anything like that." Anne Shirley "Oh, Anri. You can't see Andromeda either, and it still exists, right?" Niki "...." Anri "...So then, what was Niki saying?" Anne Shirley "Niki didn't say anything. Anri... are you hearing things? Would you like a pill for that?" Anri "No, thanks. I'll pass." "Rejecting Anne Shirley's offer, Anri beamed a smile at Niki." Anri "Maybe, you've heard the rumors about me being expelled?" "Niki nodded." Anri "And you were worried, so you came to find me?" Anri "It's alright. I'm not the criminal. But you knew that, right?" Anri "If I can find the real criminal within three weeks, then the charges will be dropped." "Niki was delighted to hear Anri's words, but still remained silent." Anri "Three weeks... That's not a lot of time, is it?" Anri "But it'll work out somehow. I've got a lot of people on my side." "Niki nodded emphatically. Anne Shirley, who had been smiling and waving at empty air, nodded as well." Anri "...Oh yeah. If either of you find out anything, let me know." "Niki still had more she wanted to say, but she didn't want to intrude any further, so she withdrew quietly." "She wasn't a very pushy girl by nature. Anri smiled at the girls as she left." "Niki watched mutely as Anri walked away, and Anne Shirley continued to wave at apparently nothing as she went off in her own direction." ****************************** Scene 9 [Pro09] ****************************** Anri "Kanae-san, you home--?" "She called out on the intercom as she rang the bell. Noticing that the door was unlocked, she turned the knob without waiting for a reply." Tenkyouin "I thought you'd be coming to see me soon." "Tenkyouin Kanae" "Anri's senpai, and the only friend she has that she doesn't have a sexual relationship with." "The school's greatest genius, and strangely enough, she and Anri seem to get along well, even though they've always been somewhat disparate in their thinking and behaivior." Anri "Hey, Kanae-san." "Tenkyouin Kanae preffered the isolation of her own room, and usually kept the door locked." "But, the strange thing was that whenever Anri came to visit, unless Tenkyouin was out, the door was always unlocked." "Thinking this to be odd, Anri had once asked Tenkyouin about it, but a bold grin had been the only answer given." "That she must be using some kind of magic trick was the answer Anri had come up with." Tenkyouin "Coffee?" Anri "I'm feeling like a mild Americano. No milk or sugar." "Taking Anri's order, Tenkyouin started up her home made coffee mill." "For several seconds, the only sound was the grinding from the mixer, then the coffee poured out into a cup. Anri, long familiar with this scene, said nothing." Tenkyouin "Here." Anri "Thank you." "They were silent for a time, while the scent from their amber drinks drifted upward." "Tenkyouin was the first to break the silence." Tenkyouin "I know the story." Anri "It's no different from usual, but you being so on top of things is very helpful." "Tenkyouin responded to that optimistic statement with a severe voice." Tenkyouin "This situation is more serious than you seem to think. Three weeks won't be enough if you just run around randomly." Anri "You're right. What should we do?" "The confidence that there was a clear solution implied in Anri's question made Tenkyouin's voice grow even harder." Tenkyouin "Anyway, you need a lead." Anri "Yeah. What do I do to find one?" Tenkyouin "...Anri, isn't this your problem? You should think for yourself a bit." "Anri gave a little laugh from the back of her throat." Anri "I've already wracked my brain over this, but I know I'm no match for your wisdom." Anri "I have faith in you, Kanae-san." Tenkyouin "...Haa." "A sigh escaped from Tenkyouin." Tenkyouin "If I help you, you will have to do exactly what I tell you." Anri "Hey now, if I said I had faith, wouldn't that mean I'd do what you said?" Tenkyouin "Alright, alright. I'll do it." "Tenkyouin waved her hand as she finished talking." Tenkyouin "...Okay, Anri. Listen up." "Hearing the seriousness in her tone, Anri looked over at Tenkyouin." Tenkyouin "I will assist you as much as I am able. Anyway, it'll be up to you to go out and gather any clues." Tenkyouin "Then I will decide how, if at all, those clues are connected to this case. Anyway, once you've got a decent amount of information, come back here." Tenkyouin "Me, well.... I'm not good with people, so I'll stay here and play armchair detective." Tenkyouin "But, there are other people who're worried about you, right? In other words, why not have those girls help you look?" Anri "Nah, that'd be too much to ask of them." Tenkyouin "...Your call." Tenkyouin "Anyway, information, evidence, even gossip will do if that's what you can get. I'll do all of the verification and reasoning, so you can concentrate on the finding. Got it?" Anri "Got it." Tenkyouin "Right.... We have exactly three weeks from today, so you should bring back all of the information you've gathered on Saturday of each week." Anri "So I have to bring results once a week? Couldn't I work at more of my own pace?" Tenkyouin "I have my own work to attend to." Tenkyouin "And, for one thing, if you do happen to find something and never get around to bringing it to me, then I can't do anything with it." Anri "...Well duh." Tenkyouin "Besides, I think the one week deadlines will make you work a little more dilligently, don't you?" Tenkyouin "You can be pretty fickle, after all." Anri "Yeah, can't argue there." Tenkyouin "Three weeks.... It might just be enough time. The rest will be up to you." Anri "Is that right? If it has your seal of approval then I've got nothing to worry about." Tenkyouin "This way is best, since she doesn't have to think too much." Tenkyouin "Let's focus on dealing with people first. Hopefully Providence will supply the rest." Anri "Agreed. ...Oh yeah, Kanae-san." Tenkyouin "What, was there something else?" Anri "Yeah.... I've been wondering, is it possible that the criminal will strike again sometime in the next three weeks?" "Tenkyouin frowned at Anri's words." Tenkyouin "Yes.... That's right. They might." Anri "I don't want to see any more vitcims. So, we should catch this person as soon as possible. We can't afford to waste any time." Tenkyouin "If we don't find the real criminal quickly, we've lost everything anyway." Tenkyouin "...But they aren't going to turn themselves in because you say so..." Anri "Haha." Tenkyouin "...." Tenkyouin "In that case, let's try a compromise." Anri "--?" Tenkyouin "Using the common features of all of the victims so far, I can pick up on who any future ones will likely be." Tenkyouin "You then pick a one from that list, and watch over her while you're out gathering information." Tenkyouin "Then if you happen across the criminal, we can save a lot of time and effort." Anri "...Only one?" Tenkyouin "Yes, just one." Tenkyouin "We can't afford to try to do too many things at once." Tenkyouin "We must consider the possibility that the criminal won't strike again, so we should focus primarily on gathering information." Anri "Hmm, you may be right." Tenkyouin "Hold on. I'll draw up a list of potential victims." "Tenkyouin sat down at her computer, and her fingers flew across the keyboard." "Just as the grinding of the mixer reverberated through the room, a chime rang out to mark the end of the search." Tenkyouin "Done.... There are three possible victims." Anri "Three, huh...." Tenkyouin "Go on, pick one, Anri." Tenkyouin "If you're not sure, just trust your intuition." Anri "Yeah? Okay then--. "Without hesitation, Anri pointed to one name." "It was....! *Heroine Selection* |Fan Soyoung| |Alma Hamilton| |Aisha S. Yang| Anri "I pick her." (If you picked: Soyoung) ---- Tenkyouin "Fan Soyoung, hm? ---- (If you picked: Alma) ---- Tenkyouin "Alma Hamilton... hm? ---- (If you picked: Aisha) ---- Tenkyouin "Aisha Scarlet Yang. She's a third year, is that okay?" Anri "Ye-ah. Just had a feeling about her." ---- Tenkyouin "Alright. Well then, let this investigation commence." Anri "Oui. ...Ummm." Tenkyouin "What is it?" Anri "What should I go do first?" Tenkyouin "...Good question." Tenkyouin "First, just start walking. Go to places where there are people. Write down any information you overhear." Anri "Mm-hmm." Tenkyouin "Somewhere, all of that information will be connected. By looking over your notes, we can see who it all relates to." Anri "Mm mm." Tenkyouin "If you get stuck, find a different path. It would be best to avoid meeting up with people unrelated to the incidents." Anri "Ah-ha." Tenkyouin "...Anri, are you getting all this?" Anri "Yes. No. Well, some of it. But, where do I go first?" Tenkyouin "...Fuu. Come to think of it, you should go make the aquaintance of the girl you've chosen to watch over. The sooner you hook up with her, the easier it will be to protect her." Anri "Oui. We'll be the best of friends." Tenkyouin "After that, find someone with a lot of knowledge of the happenings on board. Do you know someone like that?" Anri "You mean like Helena, Nicolle, Chloe, or Eliza? Whoa, this investigation is going to be more fun than I thought." Tenkyouin "Be serious. Now go, we don't have a lot of time." Anri "Oui. Thank you, Kanae-san." Tenkyouin "...Geez. Not a care in the world." ****************************** ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Main Game: Soyoung Path [SoyMN] ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Main Game: Alma Path [AlmMN] ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Main Game: Aisha Path [AisMN] ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Extras [ExtMN] ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Credits [Cred6] ------------------------------ Myself, of course, because of all the time and effort I've put in to this translation.
