Little backstory here; I've played the game for quite a long time, made quite a few different builds, and generally had a good time. As I've heard my bro say, 'It isn't a hard game, there's just a severe lack of stairs leading directly to where you want to go'. And though I know most people are playing Bloodborne now and Dark Souls 3 is just around the corner, I thought I'd fish for some ideas for some fun in Dark Souls 2 before my new gaming fixation hits the market in April.
So, to clarify the question, I'm looking for a build that is moderately challenging to play with. Either in PvP or in PvE. Maybe it's just me, but eventually the game gets dull when I rehash a build I've done before, or just attempt to steamroll through with a mage. I'm looking for a build that can sort of survive, but demands a lot of skill from the user to do so. Something that tests the player. And before people put it out there, I'm not looking for the ladle/naked runs.
For example, what I'm using right now is a speedy poisoner build. In short (bear with me, forgot exact numbers and am too lazy to get them), some points are in vigor, some are in endurance, but the bulk of them go to dexterity and adaptability. Weaponry is 2 upgraded and powerstanced Mytha's Bent Blades, rings are Flynn's, RoB+2, Stone (for that sweet dagger poise-breaking goodness), and Rat Crest. Armor is the Nahr Alma Hood, Retainer Robe, Penal Skirt, and Sanctum Soldier Gauntlets (kinda-sorta a fashion souls thing. Sorta went for the retainer look, was stuck for a hat, and I couldn't sacrifice those gauntlets for a poisoning build.
The idea here is that both in PvP and PvE, I don't have to be completely perfect, but I definitely have to be on top of my game. Taking damage from any source can hurt a lot, but if I can stick enough attacks, I eventually win over time. Especially with bosses.
