Intro

This guide was created by Hector Madrigal on December 21, 2010. The information in this guide was created by me, taken from the Battlefield Bad Company 2 website, taken from the game itself, and taken from the PC code to insure accurate weapon information that often changes with the patches. If you find any errors, e-mail me at hrmadrigal@yahoo.com. You can also view this guide with more pictures and separated into sections at: http://hxcfps.com/guides/92-battlefield-bad-company-2-vietnam

Stars

In the multiplayer, if you kill people a certain amount of times with a particular weapon you earn stars on that weapon or vehicle and an XP Bonus. There are Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum Stars. The emblem in the middle of the star is different between guns and vehicles.

On the vietnam expansion pack, some stars are transferred over to other weapons.

-The grenade launcher is transferred to the M79

-The weapons that transferred over to Vietnam have the same stats and stars (WWII weapons, shotgun, and all gadgets)

-The vehicles that are similar will be transferred over. An example is the Quad Bike and Tuk-Tuk.

Bronze Stars

Bronze stars are given to all primary guns after 25 kills with that particular gun. Along with the Bronze star you are awarded 500 XP. The secondary weapons, gadgets, and vehicles only need 10 kills to receive the bronze star.

Silver Stars

Silver Stars are given to all primary guns after an additional 25 kills after the bronze star adding up to 50 Kills total. Along with the Silver Star you are awarded 500XP. The secondary Weapons, gadgets, and Vehicles only need 15 kills to receive the silver star making the total 25.

Gold Stars

Gold Stars are given to all primary guns after an additional 50 kills after the Silver star adding up to 100 Kills total. Along with the Gold Star you are awarded 1000 XP. The secondary Weapons, gadgets, and Vehicles only need 25 kills to receive the Gold star making the total 50.

Additional Gold Stars

Additional Gold Stars (2-9) are given to all primary guns after an additional 100 kills after the Gold star adding up to 200 Kills total. Along with the Additional Gold Star you are awarded 5000 XP. The secondary Weapons, gadgets, and Vehicles only need 50 kills to receive the Extra Gold star making the total 100. There will be a gold star next to the name plus a number (2-9)

Platinum Stars

Platinum Stars are given to all primary guns after an additional 9 gold stars (and the tenth would be platinum) meaning 1000 kills total. Along with the Platinum star you are awarded 10000 XP. The secondary weapons, gadgets, and vehicles only need 500 total kills to receive the Platinum Star.

Ranks

The amount of XP to rank up is the same. I have already unlocked everything available in game, so I would assume you could unlock the same things for the main game by playing the Vietnam expansion pack. You will not be able to use any of the weapons in the Vietnam expansion pack except for the 870 Combat Shotgun, M1911, M1A1 Thompson, and M1 Garand. Some weapons have similar names, but are not the same. Just remember, all weapons are unlocked at the level 1 for the Vietnam Expansion Pack except for the 870 Combat Shotgun. Some Gadgets are the same or similar but with different names, such as C4 and TNT.

Weapons

All weapons are separated into certain kits. Each kit has it's own specilization, whether it's destroying/repairing vehicles, healing teammates, or scouting enemies. When choosing the perfect gun that suits you, you must choose the right type of stats. In this section I give the statistics on each weapon. There are 4 stats you must know when choosing the right weapon:

Damage

Each gun does a set amount of damage per bullet. Each person has 100 health of course. I list the damage which varies at distance. Distance will be explained more in the next stat. All weapons do 2.1x Damage to the head, with the exception of the M40 Sniper Rifle which does 3.25x Damage to the head, and the 870 shotgun which does 2x Damage. Explosives give a certain amount of damage to vehicles which is different than the amount of damage to people. Regular bullets do not affect vehicles.

Range

As you may have noticed, there are two values for weapon damage. This is because weapon damage is lowered at long range as opposed to close range. Let's take the M16's stats for example. The M16 does 13 to 18 damage and has an 18 to 64 meter range. This means that the M16 will do 18 damage per bullet at point blank range up to 18 meters. After 18 meters, the damage will lower all the way down to 13 damage per bullet at 64 meters. The weapon can reach past 64 meters, but the weapon's damage will not lower any more.

Fire Mode

Each weapon has a certain fire mode that cannot be changed like most of their real life counter parts. This game features Semi Automatic, Fully Automatic, Bolt-Action, Pump-Action, and Single Shot weapons.

Semi Automatic weapons are the weapons that fire one round each time you squeeze the trigger. They are usually more accurate at longer range as opposed to fully automatic weapons.

Fully Automatic weapons are the weapons that fire multiple bullets while holding down the trigger. Full Auto weapons are best as close to medium range. They are not always the most accurate, but you can put a lot of bullets on an enemy in a short amount of time.

Bolt-Action and Pump-Action weapons are the weapons that fire one shot each time you squeeze the trigger, followed by a certain action bolt or pump on the weapon to get the next round ready to fire.

Single Shot weapons are the weapons that allow you to take one shot and reload. You will have to reload after every single shot taken.

Rate of Fire

The last stat is the rate of fire. Each weapon has a certain rate of fire that allows you to put a certain amount of bullets on your target. This amount is measured in rounds per minute, or RPM. There is nothing you can do about fully automatic weapon's rate of fire since it's set. Semi Automatic weapon's rate of fire can vary depending on how fast you pull the trigger. However, even semi automatic weapon's have a RPM limit that it cannot exceed.

Game Modes

When choosing a multiplayer game mode you have the option of choosing the game mode, map, and whether it has hardcore or not. All game modes have no time limit but instead are won by score limits. This section will tell you all you need to know about each game mode:

Rush

Rush is an objective game mode where two teams of up to 12 players face each other. At the beginning of the match, one team is assigned to be attackers and the other defenders. There will be two M-COM Stations that need defending or attacking at sections of the map. Defenders must defend the M-COM Stations until the other team runs out of respawn tickets. This means the defenders must kill the attacker's 75 times to win the game. The attackers need to blow up both M-COM Stations and then move forward to the next site and do it again three or four more times, depending on the map. Each time the attackers move up, their respawn tickets will reset back to 75. You can destroy the objectives by planting timed bombs on them, blowing them up with their own explosives, or bringing down the building the objective is located in. If the attackers plant a timed bomb on the objective the defenders have the opportunity to defuse the bomb. 3 Seconds to plant the bomb. 5 Seconds to defuse the bomb. It takes 40 seconds for the bomb to detonate. Each M-COM Station has 1000 Health.

Squad Rush

Squad Rush is a smaller version of Rush with only one M-COM Station being fought over at each section of the map, and only two M-COM Stations are on the entire map. There are two teams of 4 players. Defenders only 20 spawn tickets at a time. The maps are built smaller for the game modes and there are no vehicles, just stationary guns. 3 Seconds to plant the bomb. 5 Seconds to defuse the bomb. 40 Seconds for the Bomb to detonate.

Conquest

Two teams of 12 players fight to gain control of 3-4 flags. When a team is in control of a flag, you and your team can respawn in that area and have access to those vehicles. After capturing flags, eliminate the enemies. There will be a little meter next to team scores showing how long until you capture a flag. The more team mates you have on a flag the faster you can capture it. You cannot capture flags if there are enemies around it. Just like with Rush, you have to eliminate the spawn tickets the enemies have. The more flags you have the faster the spawn tickets "bleed out." It seems the spawn tickets bleed out at a rate of 1 Spawn Ticket every 5 Seconds.

Squad Deathmatch

In squad deathmatch, 4 teams of up to 4 players fight. The first team to 50 kills wins. There is only one vehicle in each map. Fight for control over it, or destroy it. Vantage Point: M48 Patton Hill 137: PBR Phu Bai Village: UH-1 Cao Son Temple: PBR Operation Hastings: M48 Patton

Hardcore

You can choose hardcore mode on any of the game modes. In hardcore you have less HUD - meaning you can't see how much ammo and grenades you have, you won't see the radar, there are no red triangles when spotting enemies, no cross hairs, and it won't show the ammo and med kit symbols. Health is lowered to around 60% and there is no automatic health regeneration. It is possible to be killed inside vehicles without the vehicles being destroyed. Friendly Fire is on and you lose points when killing or injuring your teammates. Damage you do to your teammates and yourself seems to be lessened. When you die it doesn't show the enemy that killed you, but it still shows their name, weapon, rank, and specializations.

Maps

The Vietnam expansion pack adds 5 new maps to Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Four are give to you from the start. Each map is playable on all 4 game modes. I may add in game maps later on, depending on gamefaq's watermark policy.
