  • The game was released in the AGI and the new SCI interface. The AGI release was to accommodate for players who had lower-performing computers. The AGI version was discontinued within a few months of the game's release as sales of the SCI version greatly outstripped the AGI version.

  • The AGI 2.0 version of the game contains an easter egg where the player can teleport to a room that looks like Star Trek where all the game's developers are present, similar to the "Dream Team" ending in Chrono Trigger. No other revision of the game contains this easter egg.

  • Lead designer Roberta Williams was concerned how players would react to a female protagonist in a video game, worried that players weren't ready for this change, even though King's Quest IV was not the first game to do so. Positive reception and large sales of the game relieved Mrs. Williams of this doubt.

  • During development, word leaked out that King Graham would suffer a heart attack and die in King's Quest IV. Fans reportedly wrote to Sierra On-Line fervently asking the development team to save Graham.
