Minesweeper was a way to teach the generation of computer users to learn how to use the left and right mouse buttons for other Windows applications much more faster to be more computer literate. According to Microsoft, they felt they were successful by achieving this by releasing Minesweeper, at the time.
Bill Gates had become such a fan of Minesweeper that he deleted it from his computer to try to stay productive, yet he would sneak into one of his executive offices to play it.
After the release of Minesweeper with the ideas Microsoft thought they had already achieved, Microsoft thought they had no need for Minesweeper. However when Microsoft tried to remove Minesweeper on future Windows editions, many players protested to Microsoft to keep the game in future Windows releases.
