Over the Top Pulp-Fiction Style Humor and Gameplay
If you like FPS and you like Tarantino movies, then you're gonna like this game. The game is actually quite well done.
Don't believe all the review mags that blasted this game, they are just considering it as a ''gimmick'' game when it definitely goes way beyond that. The gimmick they refer to is basically that of trying to offend people to create controversy to sell games.
Although this may be somewhat true, the game is done so well and with great humor that it goes way past an effort to simply cash in on controversy. It is obvious to me that the mag reviewers did not play this game at length, for if they had they would have been quite amused.
Of course, some people are just plain uptight and wouldn't be amused by the over-the-top absurdity of this game. If you examine what people consider humorous, many times it is based on the premise of the absurd. That's where this game goes. For the people that have ''limits'' to their humor, this game is not for you. It is a HYPER-VIOLENT, outrageous, offensive (on almost every level) game that is an absolute riot.
In terms of the gameplay, it is clever and well thought out. The level design is good and pleasing to the eye. The weapons range from urination to rotting cow heads to a cat used as a silencer. Again, this is over the top humor. This game does not make you want to go out do this stuff because it is obviously absurb, thus the humor... get it people?
I have only one complaint with the game, and that is the load times (although this improved dramatically when I upgraded from an AMD900 to an AMD2200) and the way how you sometimes have to go through multiple maps to get to an objective. The whole game basically takes place in a town made up of map levels (unreal engine, i believe). So if your objective is across town you have to load a few maps... kind of a drag, but nowhere near enough to kill the game. I give this game a 9 because of this problem. Otherwise it would have easily been a 10.
The graphics and gameplay get 10's. Sound is fine, etc.
This game, for those who ultimately play it in the future (when cd images are as easily transferred as SNES and NES ROM images of today) will consider this a sleeper hit and it will gain cult status. It's just too funny and out there. For those who have already played it and can appreciate its brand of humor, you already know what I'm talking about.
Rating: 4.5 - Outstanding
