Topher has a revolving halo of five gems (representing MTG's five colors of mana) while his surroundings/dialogue reference the alpha Black Lotus and Lightning Bolt, iconic cards that had his artwork.

The NPCs at the house are references to the movie as well, with Kar representing main protagonist Carl and Rusty Nail and Dig representing his companions Russell and Dug.
