Description

Pebble Beach Golf Links - Pebble Beach, California
The one and only. If you don't know about Pebble and the U.S. Open, you don't know golf. Nicklaus won his third Open title here in 1972. Ten years later, Tom Watson barely edged Jack with a death-defying chip into the 17th hole. Clinging precariously to the cliffs of Carmel Bay, the 18th boasts a history of high drama, U.S. Open style. Says Jack: "There isn't a more breathtaking finishing hole in golf."

Oakmont Country Club - Oakmont, Pennsylvania
Home of nearly 200 bunkers. Jack calls it "maybe the toughest course in the world." Talk about tradition. Six U.S. Opens, three PGAs. A roster of winners that includes Armour, Sarazen, Snead, Hogan and, yes, Nicklaus, in a gutsy playoff with Arnold Palmer in 1962. They still talk about '73, when Johnny Miller negotiated polished glass greens and the dreaded "Church Pew" bunkers to shoot one of the most remarkable rounds in golf history - a closing 63.

Baltusrol Golf Club - (Lower Course) Springfield, New Jersey
Aristocratic, elegant. Site of three Opens. Jack won here in '67, then again in '80, tying Bobby Jones and Ben Hogan for most U.S. Open victories. A Nicklaus favorite, the "Famous 4th" (as it's known on the Tour) was chosen one of 18 Classic Holes worldwide by both The World Atlas of Golf and Sports Illustrated. Requires an absolute carry over water to a two-terraced green - a green Jack calls "one of the most diabolical ever made."
