Artisan Quests

Each artisan has a recruitment quest/prerequisite and an individualized quest. They’ll start gifting you with items once you recruit them and build their workshop in the Settlement (through the Kingdom Management interface). Each Artisan quest has its own page with more detailed information and maps.

You will likely encounter these Artisans during the downtime between and after Acts 2 and 3, and you shouldn't expect to meet and/or finish these quests during Act 2. I've just put them here for ease of reference.

Unlike most Artisans, he can be found at the Trading Post rather than your Settlement in the Region.

Recruiting Bokken: Visit him at Oleg’s Trading Post and ask him to be your court alchemist after your advisors suggest the idea.

Quest: An Ancient Formula

  1. The first time Bokken brings you an item, he’ll ask you to bring him all 3 parts of the Books: “Of Transmutations and Bodily Poisons”
  2. Travel to Oleg’s Trading Post and give Bokken all 3 parts of the Books: “Of Transmutations and Bodily Poisons.”
    1. Part 1: You can find this book at the Abandoned Hut by putting an herb in the empty chest. The Old Beldame also sells it for 65 gold.
    2. Part 2: You can find this book inside the Stag Lord’s Keep by putting an herb in the empty chest next to Nugrah. There is also a copy in the Bridge Over the Gudrin River in the Crag Linnorm’s cave. Bokken also sells it for 10 gold.
    3. Part 3: You can find this book on a body in the Verdant Chambers, near the eastern exit. Another copy is on the body in the Lonely Barrow. The merchant Tigni Jusmert also sells this in Act 3 (during the Season of the Bloom) at the Bridge Over the Gudrin River.
  3. A throne room event will happen 14 days after you bring him all three parts of the book. Svetlana sends you a letter saying that she’s concerned about Bokken (180 exp). Return to Oleg’s and agree to help him test his potion.
  4. Talk to the dog and either give it the potion (NE moral choice) or set it free (NG moral choice). Report back to Bokken and lie to him if you set the dog free (CN moral choice, Bluff DC 24 - 300 exp).
  5. Travel to the Wererat’s Lair and test the potion on a Wererat.
  6. Report back to Bokken and defeat him in combat. Don’t execute him during the conversation after you defeat him to complete the quest.

He is located in the South Narlmarches Settlement.

Recruiting Dragn: Dragn will visit you in your throne room after you build a Settlement in the South Narlmarches, and he demands you compensate him for his ancestors’ work on the Road of Shields. He’s basically asking you to build him a workshop but being overbearing about it. Agree to compensate Dragn (LN moral choice).

Quest: Onslaught

  1. If you speak to Dragn at the Settlement and ask him about his family relic, he’ll tell you that his brother took the Onslaught armor and sold it to three merchants in parts.
  2. Bring him all 3 parts of his family armor Onslaught (180 exp when completed).
    1. Onslaught Cuirass - Hassuf in the capital sells it for 100 gp.
    2. Onslaught Jambarts - Oleg at Oleg’s Trading Post sells it for 500 gp.
    3. Onslaught Gauntlets - Dumra at the Secluded Lodge sells it for 100 gp.
  3. A throne room event will happen the next time he brings you a gift after you bring him all 3 parts of Onslaught. Dragn will give you a gift, tell you about masterpieces, tell you that he’s been robbed, and ask for your help. The thief is at the Thorn Ford.
  4. Visit the Thorn Ford and make either the Diplomacy DC 22 (67 exp) or the Intimidate DC 18 (33 exp) check to obtain the Incomplete Onslaught Armor from Kergan.
  5. Return to the Settlement and give Dragn the Incomplete Onslaught Armor to complete the quest (780 exp).

She is located in the South Narlmarches Settlement.

Recruiting Shaynih’a (Errand: Author Wanted): Speak to her in the South Narlmarches Settlement with Linzi or Jubilost in your party.

Quest: One Thousand and One Questionable Stories

  1. Speak to Shaynih’a after completing her recruitment quest and ask: “What sort of help do you need?” She will ask you to deliver a letter to Hassuf in the capital (180 exp).
  2. Give the letter to Hassuf in the capital (180 exp).
  3. Return to Shaynih’a and either lie to her or tell her the truth (180 exp).
  4. Wait some time (it was approximately 4 to 5 months in my game). There will be a throne room event where Shaynih’a will give you an item and ask you to visit her at her workshop. I believe that this occurs the first or second time she gifts you an item after the prior event. She says she wants to share with you a rumor that may cause her to leave for an adventure.
  5. Speak to Shaynih’a at the Settlement. She’ll ask you to show the Storyteller a piece of metal that was the tip of the spear of her ancestor Vu Balak (180 exp).
  6. Speak to the Storyteller and ask about the spear fragment (180 exp). He’ll tell you that the owner wasn’t the hero that Shaynih’a thinks he was.
  7. Return to Shaynih’a and tell her about the Storyteller’s vision. You can choose to either tell her the truth or to lie. She’ll decide to stay and to make a masterpiece, regardless of what you choose. She’ll start a new story; listen to it to the end to complete the quest (600 exp).

She is located in the Kamelands Settlement.

For some reasons, the game assumes you’ll hate and want to be rude to her without actually giving you much cause. The game simply won’t give you the option to speak normally, let alone politely to her, even though she does nothing but give you free items. Sure, she’s pretty rude to other people and seems like a terrible boss, but she never does anything to offend you personally. It’s kind of weird.

Recruiting Nazrielle (Errand: Patronage): Speak to her and agree to build her a workshop (gain 600 exp).

Quest: Nazrielle’s Greatest Creation

  1. After you recruit Nazrielle and build her a workshop, her apprentice Sartayne will tell you that another apprentice went mad after touching a blade that was to be presented to you and asks you to investigate.
  2. Talk to Nazrielle at the Kamelands Settlement and ask about her apprentice.
  3. Travel to the Bridge Over the Gudrin River and defeat the 2 Dire Wolves fighting Ditael in the first passage west of the entrance.
  4. Talk to Ditael and make the Bluff DC 30, Intimidate DC 30, or Diplomacy DC 30 check (720 exp). Any one of these three conversation options lead to success, and failure only closes off the one option you tried, so this shouldn’t be that difficult. Pick up Nazrielle’s Cursed Sword and return it to Nazrielle.
  5. Resolve the kingdom Event/Problem: Accursed Things. It will reveal that harmful items were purchased from Nazrielle.
  6. Speak to Nazrielle and ask her about why the items she’s been selling are cursed. Nazrielle will say that her assistant Sartayne has been spoiling her work to ruin her reputation. She asks you to find him in the capital and to kill him (180 exp for this conversation).
  7. Attack Sartayne (CE moral choice) or try to arrest him (LE moral choice), leading to combat. Kill Sartayne (Magus 7) and his 2 summoned Leopards (Animal 5).
  8. Return to Nazrielle and tell her about Sartayne’s fate to complete the quest (780 exp).

Varrask the Wildfist

He is located in the Kamelands Settlement.

Recruiting Varrask (Errand: Varrask’s Tools): Speak to him in the Kamelands Settlement, buy his tools (the item: Varrask’s Tools) from the trader in the Settlement for 50 gold, and give them back to him (600 exp).

Quest: Obliteration

  1. The first time Varrask brings you an item, he’ll tell you that he could give you something more impressive with your help, and he’ll ask you to come by the Kamelands Settlement.
  2. If you speak to him at the Settlement (180 exp), he’ll ask you to find a metal called Inubrix. He recommends looking in a Technic League camp.
  3. Travel to the Technic League Encampment. The Inubrix can be found in a chest in the NW corner of the map. The chest is guarded by Bandit Transmuter (Wizard 7), Bandit x2 (Fighter 8), Bandit x2 (Rogue 8).
  4. Give the Inubrix to Varrask (180 exp). He’ll tell you that he needs the blood of his enemy, a three-fingered witch who slew his family. She’s located at the Secluded Lodge.
  5. Find the Stranger on the Second Floor of the Secluded Lodge and kill her.
  6. Bring the Blood of the Murderer of Varrask’s Family to Varrask to complete the quest.

He is located in the North Narlmarches Settlement.

Recruiting Sharel (Errand: Confirmation of Innocence): Sharel is being questioned by guards when you arrive in the North Narlmarches Settlement. He's been accused of theft but claims Hassuf promised to lend him money. Talk to Hassuf and ask him about Sharel to receive the Confirmation of Sharel's Innocence. Return and speak to Sharel to recruit him (LG or CG moral choice). Gain 600 exp.

Quest: A Bloody Craft

  1. The first time Sharel brings you an item, he'll ask you to visit him at the North Narlmarches Settlement to discuss why he was arrested.
  2. If you speak to him at the settlement, he'll tell you he accidentally discovered that a famous tailor in the capital, named Morhalan, was illegally killing lizardfolk to make clothes from their skins. He'll ask you to track down the poachers (180 exp).
  3. The next random encounter that occurs in any of the Narlmarches will be a scripted encounter that takes place in the woods. Defeat the enemies to obtain the Lizardfolk Skins, and bring them to Sharel at the North Narlmarches Settlement (180 exp).
  4. The next time Sharel brings you an item, he'll tell you Morhalan fled. This unlocks the kingdom Project:

Hunting for Morhalan (cost 80 BP, duration 20 days). Sharel says that only the Warden can locate him, but this Project can be completed by the Councilor, General, or Warden just fine. I don't think there's an actual deadline to start this project (you have at least 90 days), but you need to complete this Project to advance the Artisan quest, so I recommend doing it ASAP.

  5. Once the Project is completed, the Poachers' Hideout will be revealed on the map. I believe you can fail this quest if you wait too long to go to the Poachers' Hideout once it's revealed, so I recommend going there as soon as you can. You have a good month or two to deal with it, so there's no huge rush, but it's better to do it before you forget.

  6. Travel to the Poachers' Hideout (180 exp) and refuse Morhalan's offer (NG moral choice). Defeat Morhalan.
  7. Return to Sharel in the North Narlmarches Settlement and tell him "1. Morhalan is under arrest ..." to complete the quest (600 exp).

Kimo Tavon

He is located in the North Narlmarches Settlement.

Recruiting Kimo (Errand: A Flower in the Swamp): Kimo asks for your help in picking a rare flower from somewhere in the heart of the Narlmarches. This flower is located in the Swamp Witch's Hut near the three Greater Enraged Owlbears. Return with the Rare Bog Flower (600 exp, gain a Masterwork Longspear) and offer to build him a workshop to finish the quest.

His shop in the town management screen is named "Kimiel's Shop". I thought that was a typo until Umbrahunter13 pointed out that Kimo tells you that his real name's Kimiel (when you meet him) but his friends decided that name didn't suit him. Thanks Umbrahunter13!

Quest: A Trail of Misfortune - This isn't Kimo's actual Artisan quest, but it's a necessary first step.

  1. Approximately 1 week after Kimo delivers the first item to you, you will get the kingdom Event Bog Mischief. (7 days, DC 21, Regent, General, Treasurer). Fey are causing mischief around the North Narmarches Settlement. It doesn't seem to matter if you assign an advisor to this or not, since you get the same result whether you succeed or fail this event.
  2. Travel to the Fey Glade. Convince the Fey to leave either by 1) annoying them, 2) threatening them (Intimidate DC 25), or bribing them with any alcoholic drink.

Quest: Affairs of the Heart

  1. The next time Kimo brings you an item after you complete the Quest: A Trail of Misfortune, he'll ask you to visit him at the North Narlmarches Settlement to discuss a personal issue.
  2. If you talk to Kimo at the North Narlmarches Settlement, he'll admit he's in love with a fey lady, and he asks you to bring him an Emerald Necklace.
    • You can obtain this either by asking the Sweet Teeth to weed the Narlmarches or at the Flintrock Grassland during Act 5.
  3. Give Kimo the Emerald Necklace (180 exp).
  4. The next time Kimo brings you an item, he'll tell you he's heartbroken and that it's his final gift to you (180 exp). He's lying since he'll keep giving you gifts. But go visit him at the North Narlmarches Settlement anyway and ask him about his problems. He'll reveal the location of his lover's tree if you ask.
  5. Travel to the Fey Glade. Convince the Dryad to see Kimo again by either: 1) convincing her Kimo is pining for her (Diplomacy DC 22, - 67 exp), 2) begging her to let him see her for the sake of art (Diplomacy DC 28 - 360 exp), or 3) threatening to burn down her forest (NE moral choice). Persuading her gets you 180 exp. Failing either of the Diplomacy checks fails the quest. Don't just leave without trying to persuade her, as that'll also cause you to fail the quest.
  6. Return to Kimo and tell him that she'll see him again to complete the quest (780 exp).

Mim Wobblegander

She is located in the Silverstep Settlement.

Recruiting Mim (Errand: Green Stone): There will be a throne room event immediately after you claim Silverstep. Mim will ask for an Emerald. Bring her one at the Silverstep Settlement to recruit her (gain 600 exp).

Emeralds can be found at: 1) Waterlogged Lowland (eat the dragonfly), 2) Old Sycamore (kill the Shambling Mound), 3) Capital Inn (behind a locked door), 4) Swamp Witch’s Hut (loot Nyrta’s corpse), Kobold Trail (reinforce the statue), and 5) Lizardfolk Village (in the locked chest in King Vesket’s hut).

Quest: Three Wishes

  1. The first time Mim brings you an item, she’ll ask you to visit her at her workshop and to grant her two more wishes (since you already gave her an Emerald).
  2. Visit Mim at her workshop. She’ll ask you to bring her Kyounin Berry Wine or Elven Absinthe. The Sweet Teeth will give you Kyonin Berry Wine when they return from repairing Oleg’s fence. Otherwise, you can buy Elven Absinth from Oleg or Hassuf for 400 gold after you speak to Mim and start this quest (but not before).
  3. Bring Mim Kyonin Berry Wine or Elven Absinth (180 exp). Returning to your capital will trigger a deadline (discussed below), so you may wish to hold off on giving her the drink if you’re too close to the next Ancient Curse deadline.
  4. Return to your capital. Linzi will inform you that Mim has gone missing and was last seen heading toward Talon Peak (180 exp). You’re on a deadline once this event occurs, and you’ll have 14 days to go to Talon Peak or you’ll fail the quest (and lose Mim as an Artisan).
  5. Travel to Talon Peak and clear out all of the enemies in the first Talon's Peak map. Talk to Mim and heal her, either with a Restoration (4) or Heal (6) spell or by making a Lore: Nature DC 25 check followed by a Lore: Nature DC 20 check. Then encourage her to continue climbing the mountain.
  6. Speak to Mim on the second map of Talon’s Peak to complete the quest.

She is located in the Capital.

Recruiting Irlene: There will be a throne room event the next time you enter the throne room after you have the Magister Rank 1 event. She'll ask you to help her open her own store to sell magic items she "acquires". Accept to recruit her as an Artisan. Remember to build her a workshop. As a note, while she says she's there to bring you a gift, I don't think she actually gives you one, since nothing new appears in the stash or your inventory.

Quest: A Simple Favor

  1. The first time Irlene brings you an item, she'll say she needs your help in obtaining something rare and valuable and asks for your help. She'll ask you to come to her shop.
  2. If you visit Irlene in the western side of your Capital's Town Square, she'll tell you that her associate Ollie disappeared with special gems that were to be used to require the rare item. She'll ask you to find a hidden chest of gemstones stashed somewhere near the southern border or to visit his wife Lidika at Lake Silverstep. Gain 180 exp.
  3. (Optional): Visit Lidika at Lake Silverstep Village to learn Ollie went to some desolate location near the southern border to grab something from a cleft.
  4. Obtain the Chest of Genuine Gemstones from Dragonleaf Gulch.
  5. (Optional): Return to Lidika at Lake Silverstep Village to tell her of Ollie's fate. Do NOT give her the Chest of Genuine Gemstones, or you'll fail the quest.
  6. Return to the Capital and give Irlene the Chest of Genuine Gemstones. Wait at least a week before going back to talk to her, at which time she'll ask you to obtain a Unicorn Horn. You can tell her you won't kill a unicorn but will bring her a horn if you come across one (N moral choice) or agree to hunt a unicorn (NE moral choice) to continue the quest. You'll fail the quest if you refuse (NG moral choice).
    • If you take the N moral choice, you'll find a Unicorn Horn in Act 5 at the Abandoned Keep during the Quest: Betrayer's Flight.
    • If you take the NE moral choice, you can find unicorns in an unevadeable random event in the Narlmarches. You will need to fight a) Noble Unicorn x2 (Magical Beast 4) and Unicorn x2 (Magical Beast 4) followed by b) a Hamadryad (Fey 20), and Treants x3 (Plant 12). The overworld map will show this encounter as taking place at the Swamp Witch's Hut, but that appears to be a bug.
  7. Return to the Capital and give Irlene the Unicorn Horn to complete the quest (780 exp).
