Act 1: Stolen Land

People & Events

As soon as you return, Octavia will start a conversation regardless whether she was in the active party or not. You can flirt with her at the second dialogue option by stating: “1. Exactly! …” to start her romance.

When you approach the gates, Oleg and Amiri will start a conversation about the feral pig Tuskgutter. If you choose “1. Don’t you think we have enough to do without bothering with this Tuskgutter?” you will get a Diplomacy DC 12 choice (11 exp). You can choose to accept or reject the request. Agreeing to kill Tuckgutter will reveal Tuskgutter’s Lair, the Errand: Tuskgutter, and the Companion Quest: “Prove Your Worth”.

Sell off all the unneeded loot. Don’t sell the Emerald if you’ve already gotten it, and put it in your Stash instead. Remember to sell the Port and other alcohol (which will not be included within the items put up for sale by the “offer” button), as they’re just dead weight. By now, you should have enough money to afford the Bag of Holding, Small (2,500 gold), which I highly recommend buying as soon as possible. Keep at least one Light Crossbow, as it will come in handy soon.

  • C. Svetlana. If you return Svetlana’s Wedding Ring to Svetlana, she will give you Rations x10 and you'll gain 45 exp. You only need supplies when resting in indoor locations, so I generally only recommend carrying enough supplies for 2 or 3 days for your entire party and leaving the rest in your Stash.
  • J. Regongar. He can be romanced by both male and female characters.
    • You can begin his romance by asking: “3. What kind of relationship do you have with Octavia?”, “3. Are you and Octavia faithful to each other?”, and “1. Is that an invitation? ....” There is a moral choice if you select: “1. Tell me about yourself.” and “6. Do you enjoy making people suffer?” (LG, NG, LN, NE, CE).
  • K. Octavia. She can be romanced by both male and female characters. Just remember that she is sensitive about people owning or being possessive about her, which makes sense given that she used to be a slave.
    • You can begin her romance by asking: 1) “2. Will you tell me about your life in slavery?”, 2) “2. Did you have many masters over the years?”, 3) “6. Let’s talk about something else”, and 4) “1. I won’t let anyone harm those who are dear to me. …” The other two options are moral choices (CG, LN, LE) that do not affect her romance score.
    • You can improve your romance score if you ask: “4. I just have to ask… How do you manage to look so gorgeous ...” followed by “1. Oh, Octavia, the flower of the Stolen Lands! …” The other choices are moral choices (CG, N, LN) that do not affect her romance score.
  • M. Jhod Kavken. He is a priest who offers clerical services. He’s a kindly old cleric who is (surprisingly?) intolerant and suspicious of the supernatural/non-traditional religions and prone to suggest and take harsh actions. There is a moral choice if you select: 1) “4. Tell me about yourself, Jhod.”, 2) “1. Tell me about your past.”, then 3) “2. What did you do to anger Erastil?” (LN, CN).
  • N. Kesten Garess. He will be here if you previously visited the Old Sycamore. He has a moral choice if you ask him: “3. Care to tell me why you were exiled? …” (CG, LN, N, CN, or no moral choice).
Leaving the Area

At this point, you can go toward either the Abandoned Hut or the Old Sycamore. You will have to go to both areas eventually; however, your choice determines which companion you get at this time. You can recruit Tristian (a Cleric) if you go to the Abandoned Hut and then the Temple of the Elk. You can recruit the last of Tartuccio’s companions if you go to the Old Sycamore. The companion in whichever area you visit later will be too tired from his/her ordeals to join you until the end of Act 1. Personally, I’d recommend going to the Abandoned Hut, since I think the Old Sycamore is a harder area to handle at 2nd level and since there are some minor conversations and treasures you can miss if you go to the Old Sycamore first, but either choice is fine.

I would not recommend taking Octavia with you when you leave, as she won’t be very effective at level 2. She'll be significantly better after learning the Precise Shot feat at 3rd level, which will allow her to shoot/use ranged spells into melee without taking a -4 penalty. If you’re coming here after completing the Old Sycamore, bring Amiri with you on your trip to the Abandoned Hut, since you can hit Tuskgutter’s Lair on the way back.
