Common 3-Star Challenges

You want HOW Much in Hospital Value?

Often what sets the 3-star goals apart from the 2-star is usually the uptick in amount that is desired for you to win. But there's a simple strategy that will never fail you (in principle). Its execution will vary from level-to-level.

1) Build an efficient hospital
The reason that I've emphasized efficient hospital design and smaller rooms is that it really does work. When you're able to get many patients through the patient process effectively, you'll be making a lot more than when they die halfway through the patient process or rage quit.

2) Create a cushion of hard assets with lots of expensive equipment
By buying extra buildings and equipment and decorative junk all at the same time, you're putting a solid amount of money that won't fluctuate month to month into your Hospital Value. When you buy it once, it will always be calculated in your hospital value, no matter what. So go on, take your time, decorate those rooms fully and push your budget as far as you can to keep the hospital looking great. It will give you a more solid base from which the next part, by far the most turbulent, is calculated.

3) Understand that what really drives hospital value is the month-to-month profit.
While the exact math calculation is a little complicated, the basic gist of it is this. If you want to see your hospital value increase month after month, you need to keep a steady profit. And by steady profit, I mean try to make a little more than you did last month. Your hard assets will ever only count for so much of your hospital value, so you have to supplement it with a stable income. When you have profits that go up and down, it sends your Hospital Value up and down too...one month, you're at $1.8 million, the next at $1.5, the following at $1.4...etc. When you see this happening, try to trim your expenses and bring in more patients.

4) With great reputation comes great money
What's the secret to this? Raising prices! There's a difference between a Level 20 Hospital with a 99 reputation and a Level 15 hospital at 75 reputation. Patients are willing to pay good money for a good cure. Even though it is very true that you won't get every single person to pay and some will indeed Refuse to Pay, it will make a difference in your profits. The higher you scale them up though, the more likely the patients will Refuse to Pay. Like most other things, there's definitely a law of diminishing returns.

For the life of me, I had everything nice and just hit a wall around $2.5 million. I just could not break it and my hospital was as efficient as I could get it. What then, was wrong? I forgot one simple lesson from previous hospitals - When justified, it's OK to raise prices! I made a 20% increase to prices and hit my goal easily passing $4,000,000 within the next half hour! It won't always work, and it can sometimes tank your hospital even worse, but a small jump of 10% may help you out a bit. Just be careful, and don't be afraid to cut them back if it ends up hurting your hospital more!
