  • In the parking lot stage, the Rock Steady and Be Bop boss fight has been replaced with Baxter Stockman in his insect form. Baxter Stockman first appears as a boss in a hovering machine in the sewer level where he drops mousers around the player, albeit still human.

  • Because the NES is not capable of full-time motion, the cars pulling out of the parking lot is achieved using stop-go motion, in which the car graphic is jutted forward several frames to make it appear as if the car is moving.

  • To compensate for the hardware limitations of the NES, two new levels and bosses were added to the home version. Additional new enemies were also added to these levels, and the original levels are signficantly longer than their arcade counterparts.

  • This is one of many NES games that exhibits what's known as the flicker effect. A visual flaw in which sprites flicker on and off during game play. The reason this occurs is because there is a limit to how many sprites the NES can display per scanline on a TV screen, and if at any point that limit is exceeded, sprites will flicker off to compensate for this.
