Snake's Revenge, while a sequel to the Metal Gear game for the NES, is not part of the overall Metal Gear canon. This is because Hideo Kojima, father of the series did not know about this game being developed and did not plan to create a sequel to the original because it sold rather badly for the MSX in Japan, though the NES port of that game sold incredibly well overseas. When Kojima got to know about this game, it was too late to change it, but instead he went ahead and created another MSX game that's the correct story sequel to Metal Gear. That version was never released outside of Japan until it was released as a bonus to the Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence pack.
