In the original computer versions of Battle Chess, the scene where a knight took another knight had a reference to "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" where the Black Knight had each of his limbs cut off one at a time. While meant in a comedic sense, this was nonetheless considered too graphic for Nintendo of America's policies.
As a result, the animation was edited so that the knight being taken simply gets 'injured' in their limbs instead of having them cut off.
