Sakigake!! Otokojuku: Shippu Ichi Gou Sei
Author: EvilNinja725 (From GameFAQs)
Sakigake!! Otokojuku: Shippu Ichi Gou Sei is a game developed by TOSE and published by Bandai. This game was released in 1989 and is based on the manga and anime, which was popular at around the time this game was released. Sakigake takes place at a school called Otokojuku, which is a private boy school that teaches Oendan to student delinquents. Oendan is basically a cheering squad that is somewhat similar to cheerleaders, except they focus mostly on noise and atmosphere than being acrobatic. The school is run by the principal Heihachi Edajima, who uses martial arts to train his students to be better people for society.
You will be mainly playing as the four main characters that are from the manga and anime. These characters are first-years at Otokojuku, and they are Tsurugi Momotaro, Togashi Genji, J, and Toramaru Ryuji. You will be fighting other characters that appear in the manga and anime as well. You will be going through various stages while defeating these characters in order to make Otokojuku a better place for everyone. Your ultimate goal in this game is to be the number one student of Otokojuku. You will need to defeat the so called Emperor of Otokojuku first, which is the character named Daigoin Jaki. He is located at a separate and distant place far away from Otokojuku.
This game is mainly a 2-D side scroller. It's similar to a game like Double Dragon, except it is a one player game. The game itself has four chapters, each having four stages. Once you have completed each chapter, you will unlock the final stage that contains the final boss battle. You can change your characters most of the time, and you are also able to recruit more. You can level up your stats for your main characters the more you use them, and each main character will also have their own special moves for boss battles. The game itself is relatively fun to play, while catering to the fans of the manga and anime.
Directional Pad: Move Character, Crouch, Enter Doors and/or Paths
Button A: Jump
Button B: Attack
Special Move: Tap the "A" button, and then press the "B" button as soon as you can. When you press the "A" button, you will briefly crouch. You will have to press the "B" button as soon as you crouch in order for the special move to come out. You will have to do these inputs kind of fast, or else the special move may not come out. You can only perform special moves during boss battles, and the special move will do one tick of health to you for each use. Note that only the four main characters can perform special moves in boss battles.
Note: The controls will be slightly different when you are playing the boss battles compared the side scrolling sections. In the boss battle sections, you can move in all directions. When you are playing the side scrolling sections, you can only move left or right. You can also go through doors and paths by pressing "up" on the directional pad in these sections, while pressing "down" will make your character crouch.
You can also drop downwards on certain platforms if there is another platform or ground below you. If you crouch and press the "A" button, you will drop down to the platform or ground below you. This may be useful in some of the stages in the game.
In this section, I will explain the basic concepts of the game. The game itself is mostly in Japanese, so this section will explain everything you will need to know. The game itself is very basic, but I still recommend that you read this section of the guide before you actually play the game. I will also give rough translations of the menus and various texts for your convenience.
When you start the game, you will see a picture of Tsurugi Momotaro with his sword.
Select the START option to play the game from the beginning. If you get a game over while playing the game, you can select the CONTINUE option. You will go back to the beginning of the chapter in which you have gotten the game over. If you select the continue option when you boot up the game without actually playing the game, it will be the same as selecting the START option. If you turn off the console, then you will lose your progress. Resetting the game should be fine though, but there is really no reason to do so. If you start a new game and have reached a new chapter, then it will overwrite your previous saved game.
There are 8 playable characters in this game. You will start off with only 4 playable characters, which are the main characters of the manga and anime. The other four characters must be unlocked while playing the game. There is one character per chapter that you can unlock, which will be explained in the actual game guide. The unlockable characters can only be used in boss battles. If the unlockable characters get defeated in the boss battle, then you will be unable to select them for the rest of the game.
In order to unlock other characters to play as for the boss battles, you must rescue a guy named Hidemaro Gokukouji in their given chapters. You can rescue him in each chapter, meaning that there are four playable characters that you can unlock. If you do rescue Hidemaro, you will unlock the playable character at the end of the chapter.
Hidemaro Gokukouji can be rescued in stages 1-4, 2-3, 3-1, and 4-4. Refer to the main guide for more information.
Each of the main characters will have their own special move that they can use during boss battles, and their appearance in the game will also be different in the boss battles. Below is a table listing all of the playable characters, along with any relevant information about that character.
Note that the side scrolling sections will all have the same character sprites for the character you are currently playing as. The sprites will change once you reach a boss battle.

When you press the "SELECT" button, Heihachi Edajima will show up at the bottom of the screen. He will eventually ask you what you want from him. Note that the phrase "I am the principal of Otokojuku, Heihachi Edajima!!!" is Heihachi's famous one-liner from the manga and show.
[Heihachi Edajima] - I am the principal of Otokojuku, Heihachi Edajima!!!
[Heihachi Edajima] - What do you need of me?
[First Choice] - Send a Yell, [Second Choice] - View Status, [Third Choice] - Member Change
As you can see, there are three choices that you can make. These choices will be explained in further detail in the next few sections. If you want to exit the menu, press the "SELECT" button again to continue playing the game.
When you select this choice, Hidemaro Gokukouji will appear on the screen.
[Hidemaro Gokukouji] - Otokojuku is here, how much do you want to send out?
Hidemaro is asking you how big you want the Oendan to be. As mentioned in the introduction section, an Oendan is basically a cheering squad that is somewhat similar to cheerleaders, except they focus mostly on noise and atmosphere than being acrobatic. You will have to select how big and loud you want the Oendan to be.
You may notice that there are ticks in the meter. A tick in this meter will recover one tick of health to the character you are currently controlling. Keep in mind that the meter will not recover unless you find certain secrets throughout the game. These secrets may include meeting certain characters, or by performing certain actions in certain stages.
If for example you have used 5 ticks in the meter to recover health, then you will have five less ticks available to you when you use the yell again. This will make the effect of the Oendan less and less effective the more you use it. Try to conserve from sending out a yell to preserve its usefulness. Only use this option in case of emergencies. There are 24 ticks in the Oendan meter in case you were wondering.
When you actually send out a yell, you will get a cut scene of the Oendan. The Oendan is led by the characters Taio Matsuo and Shinichiro Tazawa (also known as Ippei Tazawa). They will chant "Hurray, Hurray [NAME]". The NAME inside the brackets refers to the character you are currently playing as. Below is a picture, which uses Momo as an example.
[Oendan] - Hurray, Hurray Momo! [Momo] - It's strange... I can hear everyone's voice..!
Note that the character you are currently playing as will all say the same thing during the Oendan. Once the cut scene is over, you will recover your health and can resume the game from where you left off.
On this screen, you can see all of your characters stats. This includes things like your health, which are indicated by both the candles and life bars.
The top part of the status screen represents the characters health. Below the candles are the life bars, which the candle reflects. The dimmer the candle, the less health that character will have. You will maintain the same amount of health during each stage, and they will only reset when you have reached a new chapter. If you run out of health for a character, the candle will go out. You cannot play as that character for the rest of the chapter. The health will ONLY reset for the four main characters, and not the unlockable characters. If the unlockable characters run out of health, then they cannot be played for the rest of the game.
Below the health are various stats for each character. The picture above shows the initial stats for each character.
攻 - Attack
防 - Defense
必 - Special Move
The stats themselves are self-explanatory. You may notice that there are some empty blocks in some of the character's stats. You can actually level up these stats by defeating enemies, or by performing certain actions. The game will make a unique sound effect when you have leveled up a stat. Note that the characters will not share experience, so only the character you are currently playing as will gain the experience. This means that you will have to switch characters if you want to level up all of them. Once the blocks are maxed out, you cannot raise that particular stat anymore. You will maintain your levels for each stage within a chapter. Whenever you move on to a new chapter, all of your main character stats will be reset back to its initial state. It is not necessary to raise your stats to beat the game. It will make it slightly easier, but that is all.
Use this option to change in between characters. Note that you cannot change your characters during boss battles. The unlockable characters can only be used in boss battles, so keep that in mind. Once the unlockable characters get defeated in battle, they will be gone for the rest of the game. Be careful of when you want to use them.
桃 = Momo
富樫 = Togashi
J = J
虎丸 = Toramaru
The unlockable characters will be listed below the four main characters.
伊達 = Date
月光 = Gekkou
飛燕 = Hien
雷電 = Raiden
If a character loses a lot of health, you will get a cut scene of their candle getting dimmer. If this happens during a boss battle, the game will automatically ask you if you want to switch characters. The person talking to you will be different depending on the character you are currently playing as, and their quote may also be different. The picture below will have Togashi as an example, as Momo have just lost a lot of health.
[Togashi] - Momo! That's enough! We're in this together!!
The first choice [かわる] is to change your character, while the second choice [つづける] is to carry on with your current character.
When all of the four main characters are defeated, you will get a game over. It does not matter if you have any unlockable characters still alive, so keep that in mind. At the game over screen, you will get a cut scene with Heihachi Edajima.
[Heihachi Edajima] - Heh... If you cannot pass the tests of this degree,
[Heihachi Edajima] - then you do not qualify as the number one student!
You will return to the title screen after the cut scene. If you select the continue option at the title screen, you will go back to the beginning of the chapter in which you have gotten the game over. You may use the continue option as many times as you want, as long as you have past chapter 1.
The first chapter will start out at the school Otokojuku. If you look at the picture below, the different locations represent a chapter. Your true destination is the building to the right of the picture. That is where the person you will need to defeat is located, which is Daigoin Jaki.
[Heihachi Edajima] - Momo, Togashi, J, Toramaru... To you four people, pray for the fortune of war!
The first stage of chapter 1 is meant to be an easy level. Take the time to get used to the controls if needed. The "B" button will perform an attack. If you press the "B" button while standing, you will perform a punch. If you press the "B" button while crouching, you will also perform a punch. If you press the "B" button while jumping, you will perform a jump kick. The "A" button will let you jump. The longer you hold the "A" button, the higher you will jump. The most useful attack in the side scrolling sections is the jump kick, as that attack will have a lot of range.
There is only one type of enemy in this stage, and they all act the same. They will have basic attacks, like a punch and a kick attack. The easiest way to beat them is to do a short jump by tapping the "A" button, and then perform a jump kick. This should defeat the enemies in this stage really quickly. You can also use your punches, but that will require you to time your attacks so you will not get hit in the process.
- The only regular enemy in Stage 1-1.
Proceed to the right until you reach the school entrance. Press "UP" on the directional pad to go inside. You will encounter some pits in the ground that will trap you. You will have to jump out of them to get out of the pit.
When you are inside the school, continue to the right until you reach the first door that you see. Enter it to encounter a character named Wang Ta Ren. You will encounter him throughout the game. You will be shown a cut scene, which shows him recovering all of your lost health for the character you are playing as. You can only do this once, so change to the character with the least amount of health before going in.
[Wang Ta Ren] - China's last year over the arcane.
[Wang Ta Ren] - I'll recover your life difference.
[Wang Ta Ren] - Well then, get going.
Continue to the right. When you reach another door, ignore it. This door will just warp you ahead slightly, which is not too useful. Move to the next door, which should be next to a wall. Enter this door to reach the next area of the school.
Shortly after you enter the next area, you will see an apple fall from the ceiling. If you manage to hit it before it hits the ground, you will get some experience that will level up a stat for your current character. Don't worry if you missed the apple, as the minor improvement to your stats is not too important. Remember that your stats will reset when you have completed a chapter, so you do not need to spend a lot of time leveling up.
Move to the right to trigger a cut scene. You will encounter a character that will serve as the boss of the stage. When the cut scene is over, you will have to select a character to fight in the boss battle. Most of the bosses in the game will say the same thing.
[Red Demon] - You're late. I thought you ran away.
Your first battle is against 赤鬼, which can be translated to Red Demon. I recommend that you use either Momo or Togashi for these fights. They will have more range than the other main characters, and they can knock down the enemy easier too.
For these fights, you will be able to move in all four directions. You cannot perform a jump kick unless you are Toramaru. Your character sprite will also change depending on which character you are playing as. You will want to stand just below the boss, so your attacks will still hit. Momo's and Togashi's weapons can also hit him before the boss reaches you. When you knock down the boss, make sure that you move away from him. He will be having some invincibility when he gets up, which is indicated by him flashing. You cannot damage him when he is flashing, but he can still damage you.
Remember that you cannot change characters during the boss battles, so make sure you call for a yell to recover some health if needed. Don't forget that you can also use your special moves during the boss battles, but I recommend that you stick to normal attacks for this boss battle.
When the fight is over, you will be shown the victory screen. The characters will all say similar things, while either Shinichiro Tazawa or Taio Matsuo will congratulate you on your win.
[Shinichiro Tazawa] - Darn it! This guy Togashi, he did it!!! [Togashi] - Hmph.. that was what I expected!
This victory screen also means that you have completed the stage and are ready to move to the next one.
When the stage starts, move to the right until you reach an entrance. Move through the entrance to reach a new part of the school. You will be fighting the same enemies from the previous stage along the way. Watch out for the pit traps as well.
When you reach the school again, you will encounter a new enemy. These enemies are the same as before, except they are now shirtless.
- New enemy in Stage 1-2.
Deal with these enemies like you have been doing previously, and continue to the right. When you reach a door, enter it to reach the next section.
Move to the right to eventually have an up arrow appear above your head. Be prepared to mash on the "B" button. A large rock will land on top of you. When this happens, mash on the "B" button to lift the rock out of the way. If you are successful, you will get experience to level up a stat for your current character. If you fail, you will take a little bit of damage. After the rock incident, continue to the right until you reach a door. Enter the door.
Move to the right until you see another door. Enter this door, and then continue to the right. Repeat the process of entering the first door that you see until you reach a cut scene. You will be put into another boss battle, which means that this is the end of the stage.
Go and chose a character that you would want to use in the boss battle. You will be fighting against 森田 待機, which is Morita Taiki. He is similar to the Red Demon boss, except he moves a lot faster than him. Use the same strategies that you have used against the Red Demon, except be really careful after you have knocked him down. During his temporary invincibility, he can catch up to you really quickly and attack you. There is not a lot that you can do in this situation, except to wait until his invincibility runs out. It may be easier to move up and down after you have knocked Morita to the ground. He will usually move away from you when he gets up, which should give you enough time for a counter attack. Morita can also attack faster than the Red Demon, so try to attack just before he reaches you. Your attack should connect before he can attack. Rinse and repeat until you defeat him.
After you have defeated Morita Taiki, you will be shown the victory screen. After the cut scene, you will be put into Stage 1-3.
You will at the underground part of the school in this stage. Move to the right until you reach the next part of the screen. You will fight enemies that you have already faced before. When you reach the next part of the screen, you will have to jump upwards on platforms. If you land just below a platform, your character will hang on the platform. Keep pressing the "B" button to pull yourself up. You will fall back down if you fail it. When you can jump to the left, do so and proceed to the left to a new screen.
Move to the left to eventually see a door. Ignore this first door and continue to the left to reach another new screen. Make your way upwards again, and move to the right when you are able to. You will notice some bricks that are falling from the ceiling while you are jumping upwards.
Do your best to dodge them, as they can damage you if you get hit by them. You can also dodge them by crouching. You will not get hit by the bricks if you crouch. You can also attack the bricks out of the air, but I do not recommend trying that.
When you reach the next screen, enter the nearby door. Move to the right to see a green treadmill. You will have to mash the "B" button REALLY fast to move across the treadmill. You will gain some extra experience for your stats while you are running on the treadmill.
You can also jump through the treadmill, but you will not get any experience. The treadmill is difficult to mash through, so feel free to jump across the treadmill if you want to try to preserve health. There will be some spikes behind you, which will hit you if you are too slow. Once you reach the end of the treadmill, continue to the right and enter the nearby door.
Continue to the right to reach a new screen. At this new screen, keep moving to the right to eventually get a cut scene of the next boss battle.
You will fight against 雷電, which is Raiden. Raiden will be jumping around while trying to attack you with a blade in his shoe. He can also release a fury of kicks at you. Try to either have him land right in front of you, or have him jump over you. If he jumps over you, you can hit him out of the air. If he lands in front of you, you can get some free hits on him. When you knock him down, back up and repeat the process until he is defeated.
After the boss battle, you will get the victory screen. After the cut scene, you will move on to the final stage of Chapter 1.
When the stage starts, move to the right. You will encounter a new enemy that will look the same generic enemies from before. The main difference with these enemies is that they can throw knives at you.
- Knife throwing enemy in stage 1-4.
I recommend that you jump over the knives and ignore these enemies if you can. If you want to fight them, jump over the knife and perform a jump kick at them. If you get too close to these enemies, they will fight you like normal. When you reach the next screen, jump upwards while dodging the bricks. You will encounter a door soon enough. Ignore this door and continue upwards. You will encounter another door soon. Enter this door, which would be the second door that you would have encountered in this corridor.
Move to the right and enter the first door you see. You will get a cut scene of you rescuing Hidemaro Gokukouji. The game never explains that when or how he got kidnapped, but you just have to go with it.
[Hidemaro Gokukouji] - I'm saved, Joy!
In each chapter, you can rescue Hidemaro. When you do, you can unlock a new character later in that chapter. If you do not rescue him, you will not unlock a new character. I highly recommend that you rescue Hidemaro whenever you can, as new playable characters means that you will have more health to play around with. Keep in mind that you can only use the unlockable characters in boss battles. Hidemaro will say the same thing each time you rescue him.
After you have rescued Hidemaro, move to the right to reach a new screen. From here, go and move upwards to reach another new screen. You will get a cut scene that will lead you to the next boss battle.
You will be fighting against 卍丸, which is Manjimaru. This is the first boss battle where the boss stage is different. You will be surrounded by water, which is instant death if you fall into it. The boss will also die instantly if he falls into it, so keep that in mind. I don't recommend trying to deliberately knock the boss into the water, as you will also be putting yourself at risk of falling into the water.
The boss itself does not have a lot of special moves, but he moves relatively fast and can jump really far. This makes it really hard to move away from him. He can make a clone of himself, but the clone will move next to the real one. Other than that, he will fight similar to the boss battle in stage 1-2. The best character for this boss battle is Momo, as his sword will give him a lot of range to hit the boss. Only a few swipes from his sword will knock him down. If you lose your sword, Momo will act like any other character you can play as. Try to get slightly above or below the boss, and then attack as soon as the boss gets close to you. You should be able to knock him down before the boss hits you too many times. Repeat this process until you defeat him. You may be lucky enough to knock him into the water as well.
After you have defeated Manjimaru, you will get the victory cut scene. If you have rescued Hidemaro, you will get another cut scene. Raiden will appear in front of you and decides to join your party. From this point on, Raiden will be a playable character for boss battles. I have defeated Manjimaru with Momo, so Momo will be in the cut scene as well. It doesn't really matter who you have defeated Manjimaru with, as all of the characters will say similar things.
[Momo] - Oh, you're... [Raiden] - I will also fight together with you.
[Momo] - Raiden..!
After all of the cut scenes, you will reach chapter 2. Remember that all of your health and stats for your main characters will reset when you reach a new chapter.
The second chapter will take place in a forest just past Otokojuku.
[Shinichiro Tazawa] - Easy victory! I ask that you keep up the pace!!
Move to the right when the stage starts. The enemies here are not new, but they will drop down from the trees above. You can jump on some of the tree branches here, some of which may contain an apple you can hit. Like in chapter 1, you can gain some extra experience if you manage to hit them.
You will eventually reach a dead end with a path leading upwards. If you have taken any damage, call for a yell to heal. There is actually a secret here at the dead end that will recover your Oendan meter.
If you jump upwards to the tree at the dead end and kick it, you will cause some leaves to fall. Once the leaves have started falling, that will mean that you have done the secret correctly. You will have recovered your Oendan meter. When you are ready to move on, move upwards through the path.
At this new screen, move to the right. You will fight some more enemies that you have already fought before. You will eventually reach a new screen that will start a cut scene. You are about to enter a boss battle.
You will fight against 青鬼, which is Blue Demon. If you have unlocked Raiden, I highly recommend that you use him for this boss battle. This will allow you to preserve your health for your main characters. The Blue Demon is basically an upgraded version of the Red Demon from chapter 1. Use the same strategies from before to defeat him. He is not a difficult boss compared to the other boss battles that you have already encountered. If you are playing as Raiden, remember that he cannot move by walking. You will have to jump to move around. He does not have any special moves, but his regular attack is really good. He will release a fury of kicks that will last for a decent amount of time. This attack can easily defeat the Blue Demon boss. The jump kick is not as useful, and it should only be used when you are trying to move away from the boss.
After the boss battle, you will get your victory screen. You will then move on to the next stage in the forest.
Move to the right when the stage starts. You will encounter a new enemy in this stage, which will be an enemy wielding a weapon of some sort.
- New enemy in stage 2-2.
This can make it hard for you to punch him up close, so try to use your jump kick at him. Your jump kick will have more range than your fists. After you have moved to the right for a little bit, you will start seeing some paths that will lead upwards. Take the second path going up, while ignoring the first path you see.
You will end up on a screen that is mainly a swamp area. You can move in the water, but you will move extremely slowly. You will also take damage over time when you are in the water, so try to avoid it the best you can. Try to jump on the patches of land to move faster. Watch out for the fish that jumps out of the water. You can try to attack them while they are in the air if you want to kill them.
Continue to move to the right to reach a cut scene. This cut scene will put you in a boss battle. You will fight against 得眼鉄, which is Tokumetetsu.
The boss will throw a large disk with blades on it at you. He can only throw it up and down. After he throws it, it will return back to him like a boomerang. It is best to stay below and to the left or right of him. This should cause the boss to throw the disk downwards, but it should miss you as you will be to the left or right of it. When the coast is clear, move up to him and attack. Repeat this process until you defeat the boss. You will most likely do not have to move after you knock the boss down, as long as you stay below him and to the left or right of him the entire time. This strategy should also work if you stay above him, but I find it harder to do. You can also punch away the disk, which will make the boss unable to use it ever again. I do not recommend this at all, as it will make the fight a lot harder. He will only have regular attacks, but his attacks are harder to dodge.
After you have defeated the boss, you will get a victory screen. You will then move on to the next stage, which will still be located in the forest.
Move to the right like you have been doing at the start of every stage so far. Move into the swamp area while dodging the fish, and continue to the other side. When you do reach the other side; move forward until you see a tree with branches that you can jump on.
Jump on these branches and jump upwards towards the top of the tree. There will be birds flying around the tree, so make sure you dodge them or defeat them while climbing up. They are easy to punch, as they typically will be at the same level as your fist when you punch. When you reach the top, you will see Hidemaro Gokukouji tied up to the tree. Jump on top of him to rescue him. This will allow you to unlock the playable character later in this chapter.
After you have rescued Hidemaro, jump all the way down back to the ground level. Don't worry about taking damage, as there is no fall damage in this game. When you get back to the ground, move to the right to reach another swamp area. You will have to worry about tigers jump out from the background instead of fish this time. You can tell when they are about to jump out, as the bushes in the background will start to shake. Note that they will not always jump out when the bush shakes, but always assume that they will.
You will eventually reach a tree that will be in the way. Jump into the water and perform some punches to the middle of the tree to make a path. Try to hurry up, as you will take damage over time when you are in the water.
Continue your way to the right until you reach the next screen. You will encounter some fish enemies along the way. When you reach the next screen, you will be put into another boss battle.
You will fight against 飛燕, which is Hien. This boss will use his claws as his primary weapon. He can also shoot out his claws at you. He can shoot the claws in all four directions, so keep that in mind. He is very nimble and can dodge your attacks by jumping around. Try to stand slightly to he is left or right, while also standing slightly below him. This should cause the boss to shoot his claw at you horizontally, which should miss you. It should miss you because you are standing slightly below the path of his projectiles. After he shoots his claws at you, you can hit him freely. If you repeat this process, you should be able to defeat the boss easily. You may notice that this stage will have lava in it. You will take damage over time if you stand in it. Try to stay in the rocky areas to avoid taking unnecessary damage.
After you have defeated Hien, you will be shown your victory screen and move on to the final stage in chapter 2.
When you move to the right, you will reach a swamp area. Move across it while dealing with the fish the best you can. When you reach the other side and progress to the right, you will encounter some paths leading upwards. Go up the first path that you see, which is the left path, to be inside of a cave.
When you reach the cave, move all the way to the right while dealing with the enemies here. You will soon see a door, so enter it. At this screen, you will have to be careful of flames shooting upwards from the ground.
This wouldn't be so bad if there weren't any enemies here, but there are unfortunately. Try your best to navigate this screen without taking a lot of damage. The screen is really short, so you can probably just try to jump over everything. When you reach the end of the screen, you will get a cut scene that will put you into the final boss battle of the chapter.
You will fight against センクウ, which is Senkuu. He has a special move that makes him spin around while trying to hit you with blades on his leg. Do not try to hit him while he is doing this move, as you cannot damage him when the move is active. You can jump over his special move if you are being cornered to the pit. Wait for the special move to finish, and then attack him. His special move will move really fast when he is low on health. When this happens, make sure that you are near the center of the stage. This version of his attack is really hard to dodge, so you will most likely get hit if the boss decides to use the attack.
You may notice that the boss stage will have a pit on each side. It will be instant death if you fall into the pit. The same could be said for the boss, but do not make that your priority. Try to stay in the middle of the stage to decrease the chances of you falling in the pit.
After you have defeated Senkuu, you will get your victory scene.
[Taio Matsuo] - Alright! Momo wins for us!! [Momo] - Hmph... that was what I expected!
If you have rescued Hidemaro Gokukouji in stage 2-3, you will get another cut scene afterwards. Hien will be unlocked for future boss battles as he joins your party.
[Hien] - I will also fight together with you. [Toramaru] - Hien..!
You have completed chapter 2. You will now be put into chapter 3, which will be set in the mountains.
After the group has past the forest, they will end up climbing through the mountains near your true destination. You are almost where Daigoin Jaki is located!
[Hidemaro Gokukouji] - Hang in there, you are halfway there! We are lucky to make it this far!!
In this stage, you will have to deal with falling rocks that you will have to avoid. Besides moving away from the rocks, you can duck to move behind the rock when it falls. You should not get hit when you do so. You can also punch the rocks if you want, as they are not too hard to hit. The lowest area in this stage will contain spikes. These spikes will not instantly kill you, but you will take a lot of damage over time if you stay on them. There will be spikes at the bottom of the stage for most of the levels in this chapter. If you fall this low in the stage, you should be able to make your way back up to where you were.
When you are ready to move on; move to the right and jump over the small gap. You will see some ledges that will lead upwards. Jump up these platforms until you are able to walk on a path that goes to the left.
You will see some more platforms that you can jump on. Jump on these platforms and continue upwards. When you reach the top, the screen should stop scrolling upwards. At the second top-most platform, you will need to jump to the right off screen. The platform you are jumping from will have a green bush above the right side of the platform. From this spot, jump to the right and you should land on another platform below you.
Continue to follow the path to the right while jumping across the platforms. You will eventually see an entrance that you can enter. Enter it to rescue Hidemaro Gokukouji. This will allow you to unlock the playable character later in chapter 3.
After you have rescued Hidemaro, move to the right. Jump to the second platform and jump down in between the gap to the third platform.
You will land below on a different path. Follow this path to the right and fall down through the next gap you see. When you land, move to the right to reach a new screen. If you move to the left from where you land, you can find some falling apples that you can punch for extra experience. If you did get the apples, backtrack to where you landed previously and move to the right to the new screen mentioned earlier.
You will be prompted to go into a boss battle. You will fight against 黒鬼, which is the Black Demon.
This is another upgraded version of the other Demons that you have fought. He has no special moves, but he does move very fast. There is nothing new about this version of the demon other than that. Treat this boss like the other demons you have fought and you should be fine.
After the battle, you will get your victory screen and move on to the next stage.
Right off the bat, you will have to jump up various platforms to proceed. Watch out for the rocks when you do so, and do not forget that you can dodge them by crouching.
Once you reach the top-most platform, jump over the gap to the right. You should land on another path. From here, move to the right. You will be required to jump across platforms in order to proceed. When you have gone to the right as far as you can, you will reach a wall. There should be a gap nearby this wall, so jump down it. Proceed to the right to enter a cut scene.
You will enter a boss battle against 蝙翔鬼, which is Henshouki.
The boss itself will jump around a lot while trying to shoot you with projectiles. Try to predict where he lands, and hit him as soon as he does land while avoiding getting hit by him. If you remember the boss that used the disk with blades on it back in stage 2-2, then you should use similar strategies against this boss. This boss can only shoot his projectiles up and down, so you go not have to worry him shooting horizontally. If you do stand above or below him, try to stand slightly to the left or right of him to have the projectile miss you. When the projectile misses you, move to him and attack him.
After you have defeated the boss, you will get the victory screen and move on to the next stage.
