Easily one of the best FPS ever created and still one of the best to date

When you look at video games based off movies, for the most part most of the games are very poor (Die Hard, Back to the Future, Robocop, etc). Very few view game based movies are very good. While this game at first glance just looking at the title, would make it seem like it's bad since it's based off a movie, however though, this game is far beyond the expectations of video games based on major motion pictures. Below is my review in my opinion one of the best games on the N64 and still one of the best games to date.

Story and main game play 10/10

The game is based off the movie GoldenEye. The game follows various missions that happened in the movie in further detail that in the movie. An example of would be the first stage at the Dam in USSR. While in the movie you just see a small portion of the Dam, in the game you see more of the Dam itself. This game also features other locations that you do not see in the movie which are attached to the story. The game is someone what dependent of the film, so if you haven't seen the film you may be a bit lost. However though since the missions follow the movie you will have an idea of the plot of the movie by playing this game. I won't spoil the plot since some people may have not seen the movie.

The stages itself are large and are not linear in feeling. The most of the levels are based off the movie so certain areas are explored in larger details like the Dam and the train while at touched in the movie, the game takes the levels and makes they much larger is size and detail.

Graphics 9/10

Considering that they are n64 graphics the graphics are top of the line for N64. While the game is ten years old the graphics didn't age too well, but still look pretty good for late 90's and the N64 system. The characters are modeled after their parts in the game so each "named" character in the game looks like the characters from the movie. The characters head are square like which can be a problem for some, but overall it not that much of a complaint.

Sound 10/10

The music and sounds in the game are top notch also. The music is good and has a good beat to it. The gun sounds and person noises are also preformed very well. Each gun sounds different so they don't sound the same as other guns.

Multiplayer Value 20/10

This is one of the main reasons while this game is still very popular today. You can have up to 4 players play at one time. There are various modes of play that you can choose from that will sure to please anyone. You can play as many different characters from the James Bond universe or you can play as "stock" characters from the game (such as guards, and people).

What makes this fun is that if you want to play as Boris or as a guard you can. You can play your favorite as your favorite character and also have various rules that make the game a blast to play.

Controls 10/10

The controls are very good for this game. Moving around is easy and it's easy to shoot enemies. This game also features a manual aim feature where you will get a aiming target and you can shoot enemies at specific places on their body. It's easy to do simple commands such as running and opening doors

Replay value - 10/10

What makes this game awesome instead of lame is that the levels itself. Each level can be played on three different degrees of difficulties. Each level of difficulty will increase the objectives for each level. While someone levels have one object on the easiest difficulty level, the same level can have many more objectives at the highest difficulty level. There are three standard difficulty levels Agent (Easy), Secret Agent (Medium), 00 Agent (Hard). when you start a level for the first time only Agent will be available at the start and when you beat the level without the use of cheats you will unlock the next difficulty level.

While this make seem like a cheap ploy, it is actually quite important in some ways. The cheats in the game can be unlocked two ways. By either entering a series of button commands, or finishing a level on a certain time and on a certain difficulty level. The times to complete each level vary for some you can take your time while other you must be as quick as possible and not waste any time to beat the level.

There is also another difficulty level you can unlock after you beating the game on the hardest difficulty which is more of a debug type mode, which you can control all sorts of things in the level. Such as how much damage the enemy can do to you, to how many damage the enemy can take, along with how accurate the enemy shots are. Pus the multiplayer value will want you to keep playing with your friends.

Overall score 10/10

Good graphics
Tight controls
Very high replay value
Excellent multiplayer options

Graphics show some age.
Not seeing the movie may cause for some confusion for some scenes, as the movie is the back bone of the story in this game.

This game is easily one of the best games out on the N64. The game is also easily one of the best first person shooter games out there. The game has good graphics, lots and lots of replay value, excellent multiplayer value, and solid controls. While the graphics do show some age, and if you haven't seen the movie you may be left scratching your head as to what this character is talking about, or who they are talking about.

Overall these minor, minor flaws take very little to nothing away from this classic game. It's a very fun game, that while is a FPS, has very small amounts of blood in the game make it suitable for gamers of most age ranges. If you have this game for N64 great, if not picks it up. Playing it on an emulator does not give the same feel for the game as using the N64 controller.
