Diddy Kong Racing's voice track was redone for its Nintendo DS re-release in the mid-2000s from its original N64 release. This was pointed out in X-Play's review for the re-release with Morgan Webb saying "I miss the old Geenie!"
A song known as "Song #65" in Diddy Kong Racing was originally to be used for the Pirate Lagoon course. For whatever reason, the finalized game re-uses the Treasure Caves theme, though the song is still present in the soundtrack as that 65th entry.
Diddy Kong Racing was at one point planned to be a sequel to Rare's RC Pro AM series until the game was shown to Shigeru Miyamoto, who suggested to add Diddy Kong as the main character. This change happened late enough in development that a small amount of merchandise was printed under the Pro-Am 64 title.
