A quick note on characters
All character have three basic abilities: a jump, a dash, and an aura cast that shoots their aura out in a line. When they have the orb, they lose the ability to aura cast. Aura cast changes to the ability to throw the orb, and they gain a new pass the orb option that guarantees a quick, accurate throw to a teammate.
Some character will operate differently than others and may not have standard jumps, dashes, or aura casts. These differences will be noted in their basic controls. All character will be able to throw and pass the orb while holding it.
Also, many character have a mastery skill that will unlock a special salute command. This command has completely different effects depending on the character using it, so I've left the salute effects in their respective masteries and don't cover them in the basic abilities section.
About Masteries
Each character has two different mastery trees, each with four abilities. Over the course of the game, each character can earn up to 4 mastery points from participating in the Rites. Each mastery only costs one point to unlock, but you cannot unlock them out of order. You have to put a point in the tier one skill to access the tier two skills, and you need at least one point in tier two to purchase the tier three skill. This means you'll likely specialize in one tree exclusively, although a maxed out character could take three skills from one tree and the first skill of the other.
If you purchase a mastery and find you don't like it or don't use it, the slug market sells Scribe Snuff, a cheap consumable item that refunds one character's mastery points. It's still better to know what you're unlocking ahead of time so you can save your money, but it's always an option to reset and pick new skills.
