Side-Quests (Continued)

The Runic Inscriptions

Once you have defeated the Guardian boss, you can enter the main Rhogar Temple from the Eternal Flame. As soon as you enter, look to your left to find Yetka standing nearby looking at a Runic Inscription on the wall. Talk with her for a Stone of Divine Understanding and several audio notes. The Stone of Divine Understanding will allow you to read the glowing runic inscriptions.

There are four of these inscriptions in total hidden within the Rhogar realm and finding and reading all four of them will net you 1,500XP and four Audio Notes. They can be found in the following locations:

  1. Chamber of Lies - Right in front of Yetka in the Chamber of Lies.
  2. Chamber of Lies - In the small room with the Anvil next to the first of the two switches we had to pull in the Chamber of Lies to reach the Annihilator.
  3. Eastern Antechamber - On the second floor of the Eastern Antechamber opposite the entrance.
  4. Sacred Hallways - Through the door to the left of where we spoke with the Crippled Rhogar after the fight with the Infiltrator.

The Tor Hammer

The Tor Hammer is located in the Chamber of Lies, guarded by a Spirit and a Tyrant in the room with the second and final lever we need to pull to extend the bridge to reach the Annihilator (and the giant monster).

The Tor Hammer can be used to destroy the small Rhogar statues that we have seen about the place. In order to do this, you need to have Harkyn equip the weapon and make sure you have the two-handed option available (use triangle/Y to cycle between stances). Once that is good to go, you simply need to approach and melee each of them. There are four of these statues in total and destroying these will earn you the Armour Set (Last Traitor).

They are located in the following areas:

  1. Chamber of Lies - The room after where Yetka gave us the ability to read the runic inscriptions on walls. This will earn you the Last Traitor (Wrist).
  2. The Panorama – On the Panorama area above the Arena where we fought the Guardian. Right next to the snowy path leading down to the Abandoned Range. This will unlock the Last Traitor (Head).
  3. Altar Ruins – On the second floor of the flying toast room (where we had to unlock the door for Yetka) on the side of the room leading to the roof. This will net you the Last Traitor (Legs).
  4. Chamber of Lies - On the platform where we fought the first Dimensional Beast imbued with fire. Right near the entrance to the Annihilator's boss fight arena. This will reward you with Last Traitor (Chest).

The Unity Staff

The Unity Staff is a staff weapon that has a unique trait of having an electricity enhancement on it. It is not easy to obtain however as you are required to find two pieces of the staff and then take them to a specific location to find a chest with the staff inside.

The Staff pieces can be found in the following locations:

  1. Weapon Hilt - In a sealed rune door to the right of the exit to the Spider room off the Northern Edge of the Chamber of Lies.
  2. Staff's Head - Behind a locked gate on the Northern Edge of the large chasm in the centre of the Chamber of Lies. There is a hard to spot lever to open this gate on the Southern Edge of the same room, located on the wall by the cliff's edge where there is a Checkpoint Crystal and we fought the Tyrant, Golems and Dimensional Fire Beast. Pull this lever and then return to the now unlocked gate. Inside you'll find a Fire Golem, a pit to jump and a chest containing the piece of the weapon.

Now that we have both pieces of the Unity Staff, make your way back to the area where you fought the two forgers on platforms either side of a gap earlier. Remember the locked gate on the left hand platform here? If you open your inventory screen and equip the Staff's Head as Harkyn's weapon, you can use a melee attack on the gate and it will open. Inside is a chest containing a new Weapon – Staff (Unity).

Note that looting the Unity Staff will have a Spirit spawn on the small balcony platform just outside the room, so be prepared to fight as you leave!

Useful Item Locations

Attribute and Spell Shard Locations

Attribute Point Shards and Spell Point Shards are found in tricky to find locations throughout the world and these can be spent to instantly unlock a levelling up point for Harkyn. Unfortunately, these will also push up the XP required for the subsequent point. Due to that and the fact that they are hard to come by and extremely useful, it is recommended that you spend them only when Harkyn is at a relatively high level so that you get the maximum benefit - or before a boss that you can't seem to beat for a nice stat boost!

Below are the locations of all of the Points Shards I have found in the game so far listed in the order in which they appear in the above walkthrough:

  • Keystone, Northern Watchtower – Attribute Point Shard #1 - In a chest guarded by a Rogue that requires one rune to open.
  • Keystone Crypt – Attribute Point Shard #2 – Complete the proving ground in Loot Crystal #3.
  • Keystone Crypt – Spell Point Shard #1 – Complete the proving ground in Loot Crystal #3.
  • Rhogar Temple, Western Antechamber – Attribute Point Shard #3 – After killing the first Tyrant, loot the Western Antechamber Key and unlock the gate by the stairs for a chest containing the shard.
  • Rhogar Temple, Abandoned Range – Spell Point Shard #2 – A chest in the Spider cave close to the Checkpoint Crystal.
  • Catacombs, Cell Circle – Attribute Point Shard #4 – In a chest in the small room at the top of the stairs next to the Checkpoint Crystal.
  • Catacombs, Cell Circle – Spell Point Shard #3 – Complete the Infected Monk side-quest by finding the lever handle nearby, unlocking his cell and killing the Monk. You'll be rewarded with the shard.
  • Keystone Citadel, Old Quarters – Spell Point Shard #4 - Behind a weakened wall we can destroy just off the Main Hall.
  • Catacombs, New Burial Chambers – Spell Point Shard #5 - Complete the Infinite Void Challenge in Loot Crystal #5 after defeating the Champion.
  • Rhogar Temple, Eternal Flame – Attribute Point Shard #5 - Complete the Infinite Void Challenge in Loot Crystal #7 after defeating the Guardian.
  • Keystone Citadel, Flooded Hallways – Spell Point Shard #6 - After returning from Adyr, you'll end up in a small, previously inaccessible passage off the main room. The chest behind you contains the shard.
  • Keystone Citadel, Flooded Hallways – Attribute Point Shard #6 – Complete the proving ground in Loot Crystal #9 upon returning from the Adyr.
  • Keystone Citadel, Flooded Hallways – Spell Point Shard #7 – Complete the proving ground in Loot Crystal #9 upon returning from the Adyr.
  • Keystone Citadel, Old Quarters – Attribute Point Shard #7 – Complete the proving ground in Loot Crystal #10 after defeating the Lost Brothers boss fight.
  • Keystone Citadel, Old Quarters – Spell Point Shard #8 – Complete the proving ground in Loot Crystal #10 after defeating the Lost Brothers boss fight.

Note: The preceding list of Points Shards may be incomplete. As there are no achievements/trophies tied into these items and there is no in-game stat tracker that I am aware of, it is entirely possible that i may have missed some locations. If you find one that is not listed, please head down to the contact section below and swing me an email!

Empty Bottle Locations

Empty Bottles are a great addition to Harkyn's inventory each and every time you find one. This is because each Empty Bottle obtained will increase the number of healing potions that Harkyn can carry by one. Below are the locations of all of the Empty Bottles I have found in the game so far listed in the order in which they appear in the above walkthrough.

  1. Keystone Monastery - Behind a bookcase we can destroy in the side-passages at the very start of the game. Roll beneath the half-open portcullis and loot the chest inside for the Empty Bottle.
  2. Keystone Monastery – In one of the chests inside Loot Crystal #1 which is unlocked after defeating the First Warden.
  3. Keystone, Memorial – In a chest locked by a rune on the left hand side of the area to the left of the Checkpoint Crystal by the path leading to the Burned Watchtower. Â Beware the Knights and high level Infected in the area if you go early!
  4. Keystone, Burned Watchtower – In a chest inside the Burned Watchtower.
  5. Keystone, Burned Watchtower – On a small, snowy path behind the Burned Watchtower we can drop down to from the hole in the wall by the stairs in the room with the Marauder. The Empty Bottle is in a chest.
  6. Rhogar Temple, Eternal Flame – On the far right hand side of the area where one of the Demon Hounds patrols.
  7. Rhogar Temple, Eternal Flame – In the side-passages to the left of the main Eternal Flame area. There is a locked door here that requires two runes to open. Inside is a chest containing an Empty Bottle.
  8. Rhogar Temple, Sacred Hallways – In one of the chests inside Loot Crystal #4 unlocked after defeating the Infiltrator.
  9. Catacombs, Monster Prison – Return to where you fought the Champion after defeating the Beast and the alcove previously blocked by a gate will be open. Inside is several Audio Notes and a chest containing an Empty Bottle.
  10. Keystone Citadel, Cellar - Inside the hidden room we knock down the wall to enter during the Concerned Monk side-quest. There is an additional weak wall guarded by a Spider at the very far end of the room from where we entered. Break down the wall here to find the Empty Bottle.
  11. Catacombs, New Burial Chambers – In one of the chests inside Loot Crystal #5 after killing the Champion boss.
  12. Rhogar Temple, Chamber of Lies – This is in the room with the large hole in the centre on the side with the Spellcasters and Golems (the second room in if you come from the Eternal Flame). Climb the stairs to the right of the entrance and at the top, use the ledge beside the top of the stairs to reach a small platform with an item just above the stairs – this is the Empty Bottle.
  13. Rhogar Temple, Chamber of Lies – In one of the chests inside Loot Crystal #8 after defeating the Annihilator.

Note: The preceding list of Empty Bottles may be incomplete. As there are no achievements/trophies tied into these items and there is no in-game stat tracker that I am aware of, it is entirely possible that i may have missed some locations. If you find one that is not listed, please head down to the contact section below and swing me an email!

Trinkets are pieces of armour that you can equip to provide Harkyn with a passive bonus (or penalty). Players can only equip one trinket at a time. They can be found in a number of different places – either from chests, finding collectibles, inside Loot Crystals and completing side-quests.

Unique Weapon Locations

There are a 15 unique/legendary weapons in the game that provide players with special properties and the vast majority of those available are obtained via defeating each of the game's bosses whilst satisfying a certain condition whilst others can be found either from completing side-quests or are located in hard to find areas.

Note: Collecting 12 of the 15 weapons will earn you the achievement/trophy ‘My Personal Stash'.

Note: You will still earn a standard variant of each of the weapons by defeating the bosses without fulfilling the optional objectives. These weapons however will not count towards the achievement/trophy and lack the special abilities.

The boss related Special Weapons include:

WeaponSpecial AbilityHow to Unlock
PersistenceThis Sword has the unique ability to send forth a shockwave at the end of a heavy attack.Awarded for defeating the First Warden boss without taking any damage.
Commander ShieldThis is a Tower Shield that fires out blue projectiles similar to the Commander's attack when using the Shield Wall ability.Awarded for defeating the Commander boss without blocking at all.
Clawfinger This is a Greataxe carried by the Worshiper.Awarded for defeating the Worshiper after you have managed to get him to kill two of the summoned Golems during the fight.
UrasThis is a Polesword whose heavy attacks will create a puddle on the ground that will heal you if you stand in it.This is awarded by killing the Infiltrator before the braziers above the arena have been lit. This seems to be time sensitive, so defeating the boss as quickly as possible is necessary.
StingThese Fist weapons catch on fire when Harkyn's health is low and will deal increased damage.Awarded by killing the Champion boss without forcing him into Rage mode which means managing his rage meter and slowing down the fight so that you are not taking too much or dealing too much damage too quickly. The boss will automatically enter Rage mode twice when his health reaches certain levels, this will not affect the optional objective.
StainThis Hammer creates a poisonous puddle on the ground upon using a heavy attack that will poison enemies that stand/walk through it.Awarded by defeating the Beast boss without stepping in any of the poison puddles that he spits out during the fight.
FirewalkerA Shortsword with a great deal of fire-based damage.Awarded for defeating the Guardian boss without knocking over any of the braziers in the Eternal Flame arena.
LightningA Hammer with a lightning enhanced two-handed leap attack. This is earned by defeating the Annihilator boss with the killing blow coming from a weapon with electrical DAMAGE (The Unity Staff or Yetka's Dagger are your best bet!).
Defender (Fire or Electric)A Buckler Shield that provides 100% resistance to either Fire/Electricity and reflects Electricity/Fire damage back on enemies when blocking.Awarded for defeating the Lost Brothers boss encounter – the shield will bear the properties of whichever brother (lightning or Fire) that you kill last.

In addition to the special conditions for defeating bosses, there are a number of weapons that can be found via completion of side-quests or in hard to find places. These include the following:

WeaponSpecial AbilityHow to Unlock
BloodsickThis Shortsword starts off quite powerful, but loses attack power and grows weaker the more you use it. It can be found in the Royal Tombs portion of the Catacombs. Go down the stairs opposite the gap bridged by a wooden plank and knock down a wooden barricade here. The sword is located in a chest within one of the rooms in this hidden area.
BloodlustThis Shortsword starts off quite weak, but gains attack power and grows stronger the more you use it.It can be found in The Pit portion of the Catacombs. In The Pit area, there is a pressure plate behind one of the columns. Enter the door this opens and interact with the statue inside for the weapon.
BlockerThis Buckler Shield is probably the best in the game for blocking non-magic projectiles (crossbow bolts, arrows and Dimensional Beast spikes). It can be found in the Cell Circle section of the Catacombs. You'll need to complete the Infected Monk quest by finding the lever handle for the broken lever outside his cell. Fixing the lever and throwing it will open the Infected Monk's cell as well as the cell to the right of his. The shield can be found in here.
CurseThis Shortsword has a great deal of magic-based damage. You'll need to find the Curse sword in the Old Quarters in the basement of the Keystone Citadel. Once you have the sword, take it to the Graveyard to where you fought the Worshiper and look for an open grave. Approach this and bury the sword. Kill the ghost that appears and you'll be rewarded with the upgraded weapon.
StanceThis Kite Shield restores Harkyn's magic slightly when blocking. This is earned by collecting and handing in 15 Human Skulls to the Crippled Rhogar in the Rhogar realm.

Collectible Locations

There are 84 Audio Notes in total, with 69 appearing in the first playthrough and an additional 15 to be found in new Game +. These collectibles appear as floating scrolls with an orange glow. Picking them up will allow you to listen to a recorded messages from some of Keystone's more prominent characters. Listening to these gives you a little extra back-story into the happenings of the game (which is appreciated as it is a little light on the narrative SIDE!).

Note: Collecting your first Audio Note will net you the achievement/trophy ‘Bookworm', whilst finding 60 of them will unlock the 'By the Book' achievement/trophy.

Achievements/Trophies

Lords of the Fallen has a total of 46 achievements and 47 trophies. These are awarded for experiencing a large amount of the game's campaign, checking out some of the
game's many side-missions, nabbing the majority of the collectibles and undergoing some additional miscellaneous tasks. Below you'll find a categorised list of the achievements/trophies in the game and how you can unlock each one.

Story-Related Achievements/Trophies

The following 15 achievements/trophies will all come with story progression, so as long as you finish the game these should be pretty much un-missable. The only exception to this is the ‘She was the last woman here' achievement/trophy which is MISSABLE! It requires that you make a certain decision regarding the giant monster (don't kill it) during a conversation just before fighting the Annihilator boss in the Rhogar Temple.

Side-Quest Achievements/Trophies

There are 6 achievements/trophies tied into the side-missions available in Lords of the Fallen and these have been included most likely to encourage players to explore the game's world to experience everything the title has to offer. Each of them are fairly self-explanatory, but can be tricky to locate as the game never points these side-tasks out to you.

Fortunately, the side-quest guide above can help you out with the specifics of each and all of the side-quests have also been worked into the main walkthrough for convenience. Here are a list of the achievements/trophies that fall into this category and what needs to be done to unlock each of them:

Name

How to Unlock

Take My Hand

Speak to the Injured Monk as you leave the Monastery and agree to cut off his hand for the achievement/trophy. After the scene, speak to him once again and give him a potion - you'll need to do this to unlock another couple of side-quests and another achievement/trophy down the track.

Extra Strong

If you cut off the Monk's hand and gave him a potion early on in the game, you'll bump into him again in the Keystone Citadel. Speak with him here and he'll ask you to clear out his work space in the Southern Watchtower.

If you head to the South Watchtower, you will find a Spider inside in need of eliminating (you can actually do this right at the start of the game if you are keen). Once you have killed it, return to the Monk and tell him its all clear.

You'll now be able to find the injured Monk in the South Watchtower where the Spider was located. Speak with him here and he'll ask you to bring him Tyrant Hearts. Bring him four hearts and he will give you 2,000 XP, upgraded potions and the achievement/trophy.

Go Breaking My Heart

There are 12 Tyrants in the game and you'll need to find and collect 9 Tyrant Hearts to unlock the achievement/trophy. As long as you follow the guide above, you should have no trouble getting at least 10 of them (there are two optional Tyrants that appear late in the game).

Human Skull

There are 30 Human Skulls in the game and you'll need to find and collect 25 of these to unlock the achievement/trophy. As long as you follow the guide above, you should have no trouble getting all of them as they all appear along the way through the game.

Couldn't Have Done it Myself

For this achievement/trophy you'll need to grab the Shard of Heroes from the secret room in the Monastery (this is detailed in section 3 of the walkthrough above). When you reach the Commander boss, place the Shard of Heroes into one of the three statues in the courtyard. During the fight, the boss will go and knock down the statue you played around with, earning you a sexy new weapon upon completing the fight and the achievement/trophy.

I Feel Lucky

After defeating the Beast boss, you can enter the Old Quarters of Keystone Citadel. Here you will be able to find the Cursed Sword (this is detailed in section 16 of the walkthrough above). Take this sword to the graveyard, and place it in the open grave. Defeat the Ghost that appears and you'll earn the achievement/trophy.

Loot Crystal Achievements/Trophies

The Loot Crystals are a nice, cool addition to Lords of the Fallen and act as a reward of sorts for defeating each of the game's bosses. Each of the Loot Crystals becomes active once the associated boss has been killed and opens a portal to a side-area allowing you to find some loot. There are three types of Loot Crystal: Treasure Rooms, Infinite Void Challenges and Proving Grounds. Completing all 10 loot Crystals will earn you the three related achievements/trophies.

NameHow to Unlock
Are You Not Entertained?Completed all 4 Proving Grounds.

Collectible Achievements/Trophies

These 5 achievements are tied into collecting a number of different items throughout the game including: Audio Notes, special weapons, armour sets and different weapon types. Most of these should be obtainable before the end of the first run through the game, although one achievement 'My PrivateStash' requires that you kill bosses within certain parameters, which can be tricky and can be attempted on New game + or New game ++ as your equipment will carry across.

These are the collectible achievements/trophies in Lords of the Fallen:
