 1.1 Game Information
*----------------------------------------------------------------------*

Legend of the River King 2 was released on April 18, 2001. LotRK2 is the
sequel to Legend of the River King, a game that was released in its
Color Gameboy form back in April of 1999.

The Japanese version of this game is actually the 4th in a series. Kawa
No Nushi Tsuri 4 is its Japanese title. The game has been out since
July of 1999.

A spin-off game from the Japanese series was released in August of 2000.
It's not a sequal to Nushi Tsuri but a seperate adventure titled Nushi
Tsuri Adventure - Kite No Bokuen. Kite is a pirate on a quest to save
a princess from the land of Orion. He uses his friends to help him
battle monsters, fish, practice astronomy, and make new companions who
will help him find the princess.

The main plot of LotRK2 is to help Yuki, a child of the heavens, recover
the pieces of the Heaven Jewel. One piece was stolen by the Mountain God
and the other half was taken by the Sea God. Each god has transformed
himself into a different fish - the Mountain God has become the River
King and the Sea God has become the Sea King. It's your task to catch
both gods and help Yuki put the Heaven Jewel back together.

There is more to do then catch the two kings. If you would like, you can
choose to complete the 4 memos that exist in the game. There is the Fish
memo, the Shellfish memo, the Bug memo, and the Flower memo. Each memo
has a page set-aside for documentation of what you find. If you complete
all 4 memos something special might happen.

You can also trade items to and from Harvest Moon 2, another game
released by Natsume. Not all items can be traded from LotRK2 to HM2,
just those that appear in HM2 normally.

*----------------------------------------------------------------------*
 1.2 Starting Out
*----------------------------------------------------------------------*

The two most important pieces of equipment you'll need to play LotRK2
are a Gameboy and the gamepack. Just having one of them isn't going to
do you much good, although if you have the gamepack and a Super Gameboy
that will work as well. The graphics won't be as pretty, but the game
will run all right. You will also need a gamelink cable if you plan on
doing any trading.

Put the game into your Gameboy (whether it be a Pocket, Color, oldskool,
or Advanced) and turn it on. You can watch the intro scenes or if you
want to skip them press the START button. You will then reach the title
screen where you have to press START again.

There are two ways of playing this game. You can choose to play as the
Kid or as the Teen. Each game has the same fish, plants, shellfish, and
bugs but the starting points are different. After you pick your brother
and pick a name, an earthquake occurs and you get to view the brother's
house.

You and your brother are talking how it's odd that suddenly so many
earthquakes are occurring. Suddenly one of you notices a girl by your
front door. Her name is Yuki and she has come to ask for your help. The
Heaven Jewel has been split into two pieces and each taken by the Sea
God and the Mountain God. The jewel has the power to control natural
phenomenon’s such as earthquakes and tidal waves, so the two gods are
having a heyday creating chaos. Yuki says that each has morphed himself
into a different fish. The Mountain god has transformed into the River
King and the Sea God has transformed into the Sea King. Since she has
read about your great fishing skills in her latest fishing magazine,
Yuki figured that you would be the perfect person to give the task of
returning the two pieces to.

If you are playing as the Kid, Yuki will ask you to find the River King
first and sends your brother to find the Sea King. If you are playing as
the Teen then you have to find the Sea King and your brother is sent to
catch the River King. As the Kid, you will start out to the west of your
house at The Lake and as the Teen you will head towards the east and
into The Beach. Each one of you will have to complete certain tasks to
move your quest ahead, although only two of the tasks will be different
for each brother; all the rest will be the same for both brothers.
Eventually you will both gain access to each other's maps.

The Teen starts out with a higher level then the Kid. The Kid will start
at level 1 with 50 hit points but the Teen will start out at level 8
with 80 hit points.

*----------------------------------------------------------------------*
 1.3 Basic Commands
*----------------------------------------------------------------------*

Talking to other people will be one of the most important things you do.
This will enable you to find out what you need to know in your search
for the kings. To talk to someone just walk up to them (by using the
directional pad on your Gameboy) and bump into them one more time to
start a conversation. To continue the conversation press the A BUTTON.

Knowing where to save is also very important! In each map (except for
the Remote Island) you will find a little save shrine. Just walk on top
of it and you will get the option to save your game. After you save you
can continue playing or you can quit and return to the title screen.

There are 4 shops in the game - the Inn, Fish Market, Tackle Shop, and
Grocery Shop. You will spend lots of gold at these places!

The Inn - The cost to use the Inn will vary from map to map, but it will
run you between 10 and 40 gold to spend the night. Staying the night at
the Inn will recover all of your hit points and you will wake up at 6AM
the next morning. If you run out of power (aka you die) while you are
out and about, you will appear back at the last map with an Inn. So for
example if you were beaten senseless by a brown bear while in The Moor,
you would appear back at The Stream's Inn since The Moor does not have
an Inn to stay at. You will also only have 1 hit point, so make sure you
use the Inn to recover before heading back out.

Fish Market - You will sell the fish you caught to the Fish shop. Can't
buy anything unless you sell it right? The Fish Market will pay
different amounts of gold depending on the size of the fish you catch.
She will also pay you for the shellfish that you gather, of course
different prices depending on the quality. You will need to talk to the
buyer a second time if you are selling fish and shellfish; once if you
are just selling one type.

           Fish Prices Shellfish Prices
     ------------------------ ---------------------
     | 00 - 10 cm | 15 Gold | | D Rank | 5 Gold |
     ------------------------ ---------------------
     | 11 - 30 cm | 25 Gold | | C Rank | 10 Gold |
     ------------------------ ---------------------
     | 31 - 50 cm | 40 Gold | | B Rank | 20 Gold |
     ------------------------ ---------------------
     | 51 - 80 cm | 50 Gold | | A Rank | 30 Gold |
     ------------------------ ---------------------
     | 81+ cm | 80 Gold | | S Rank | 50 Gold |
     ------------------------ ---------------------

Tackle Shop - You can't fish without the proper equipment. When you
first start out you will have a basic T.Rod, the 4 bobbers, and 1 type
of bait (earthworms for the Kid and lugworms for the Teen). If you need
more the Tackle shop sells what you're looking for. The shop sells food,
lures, bait, rods, flies, and some tools. The shops in the lake area
sell bait used for those maps and the shops out at the sea sell bait
used at those areas.

Grocery Shop - This shop sells basic things needed to catch bugs and
gather flowers. Here is also where you'll find the Communication Center,
which you would use if you were going to trade items between game packs.
The old man in the shop sells items and is the comm center, while the
old lady buys your bugs and flowers that you sell. If you want to sell
her both your bugs and flowers you will need to talk to her twice (once
for bugs, second time for flowers). If you are just selling one type
then you only need to talk to her once. She uses the same pricing
structure that the Fish Market uses to buy your shellfish.

All of your command will be accessed via the main menu. To bring up the
menu just press the A BUTTON. The menu will tell you where you are, what
time it is, how much gold you have, and how many hit points you have.
You have access to two action menus, which you can switch between by
pressing the left or right directional keys.

First action menu -
FISH - select this to fish, or you can press SELECT near water
BAIT, LURE, or FLY - depending on what rod you have selected
GEAR - where you switch out your fishing rods
ITM - where your food is kept
TLS - tools and memos, press left or right to access second screen
LVL - hit points, exp, and gold amount

Second action menu -
COOL - how many fish and/or shellfish you have
BOX - your current bug inventory
BAKT - the flowers you've picked
BUG - what to choose to catch bugs
PIC - what to choose to pick a flower
DIV - what to choose when you want to dive for shellfish

*----------------------------------------------------------------------*
 1.3.1 Basic Commands - Fishing
*----------------------------------------------------------------------*

Besides knowing how to talk to people, you're going to need to know how
to fish! You will have a wide variety of rods and baits to use, since
each fish is particular to one type or another.

The first thing you want to do is choose which type of rod you want to
fish with. You can always swap out your rod by pressing the A BUTTON to
bring up the main menu, pressing A again when you select GEAR, and then
pressing A a third time when your cursor is flashing on the rod you
currently have equipped. There are 16 different rods you can use, but
there are only 6 different kinds of rods.

T. Rods - This is your basic rod. You get one for free when you start
out and it's a good idea to fish as much as you can so you can buy a
Reel rod. The T. rods use regular hooks and bait. To fish just cast the
rod and let the current pull the bobber along in the water.

Reel Rods - The upgrade to a T. Rod, the Reel rods let you actually move
your bait along in the water by pressing the A BUTTON. With a Reel rod,
you can cast past the fish, then just press A to draw your bait closer
to the unsuspecting fish. These rods also use hooks and regular bait.

Lure Rods - These rods don't require a supply of bait and instead use
recycled lures to catch fish. You can use a lure to catch an indefinite
amount of fish, but sometimes your lure will break and you'll have to
buy a new one from the Tackle shop. When a fish bites at a lure, it
isn't instantly hooked. You will have to entice the fish to take the
lure by dragging the lure through the water with the A BUTTON.

Fly Rods - Using flies are nice because you can use them over and over
like lures, the rod works like a Reel rod so you can lure the bait
closer, and once the fish bites the fly it is automatically hooked. One
downside to flies though is they can't be used to catch very large fish.
The fly is too small for the fish to be hooked.

Boat Rods - You can only use these rods when you're out in The Shore,
The Ocean, and Remote Island maps. They work like the T. and Reel rods,
but instead of casting and reeling in the bait you cast and then move
the boat around to move the bait. You also have the option to change the
depth of the bait by pressing the A BUTTON to drop it down and then the
B BUTTON to reel it back up. The number next to you will tell you how
far down the bait is in the water.

Trolling Rods - This is another group of rods that you can only use on
those three maps. The Trolling rods work just like the lure rods but you
can move the lure and the boat around. You can only purchase trolling
flies at the Tackle shops in the sea maps.

After you select what rod you would like to use, and then the
corresponding bait, just head towards the water and cast your line by
pressing the A BUTTON. How far your line casts is dependent on the size
of your fishing rod *and* how many hit points you have. You could have
an 11 foot lure rod that doesn't cast very far because you only have 20
hit points.

When a fish bites at your bait, you will hear a "dingling" sound and
you will see the fish circle around your hook. If you hear the ding and
the fish isn't biting, that means the fish isn't interested in the bait
that you have placed out for it. If you see the fish circling and you
hear a steady high pitched tone, that means the fish took your bait and
you should quickly press the A BUTTON to switch to the underwater scene.

The underwater scene is where all the action is. Depending on what bait
you've chosen, you are going to have to react in different ways. If you
have chosen to use regular bait or flies, then the fish will already be
on your hook and all you have to do is reel it in by pressing the A or
the B BUTTONS. If you are using the lures or the trolling flies, you
will have to work a little harder. You should see your fish looking at
your hook but he won't take it. You will need to press the A BUTTON to
draw the hook closer towards you so the fish believe it is alive. Don't
pull the lure/trolling fly too fast; some fish don't swim fast enough to
keep up with a fast moving hook. If you let go of the A BUTTON your lure
will stop and sink or float, depending on which one you have selected to
use. The hook does need to be moving in order for the fish to bite it.

A hooked fish will naturally try to get away. The fish will swim away
with your hook in it's mouth and eventually stop. Once it has stopped
swimming that's when you reel it in using the A or B BUTTON. Press the
button down and hold it down to move the fish closer to shore. When you
notice that your fish isn't moving any closer towards you, that means it
is getting ready to try and get away. Release the button to let the fish
swim away again. If you do not let go of your button and the fish stops
and arches up, the fish has a good chance of freeing itself from your
hook. Eventually you will get to know when a fish is trying to get away,
when to let go of the button, and when to press the buttons down to
reel the fish in.

After you reel in the fish completely you will learn it's name and how
large it is. If it is a fish that you have not caught before, it's
picture and other information will be inputted into the Fish memo.

*----------------------------------------------------------------------*
1.3.2 Basic Commands - Shellfish Collecting
*----------------------------------------------------------------------*

There are only 4 maps where you can dive for shellfish - The Beach, The
Shore, The Ocean, and the Remote Island. You will also need the Canoe or
access to your Dad's boat or the captain's cruiser. All of the shellfish
are underwater so you'll need to use one of those to get out there.

To find shellfish just take a boat out and when you get to a spot where
you want to dive press the A BUTTON to bring up the main menu, press the
right or left directional pad to get to the second menu, then select the
DIV option. If the location you are at does not have anything
underneath, you will receive a message telling you that. If you are
lucky and there is something down there, you will switch to an
underwater scene.

Pressing A while underwater will bring up your menu where you can choose
to return to the surface or continue diving. To swim down just press the
B BUTTON repeatedly. In the water you will have to navigate around eels,
jellyfish, and lanturnfish. Since swimming takes away your hit points
try to not get hit by one of the underwater creatures. If you get hit
by one of them you'll get pushed upwards a little bit and you'll loose
more hit points from damage. The goal is to reach the bottom of the
water. Once you hit the bottom you are automatically sent back up to the
surface with whatever shellfish you found down there.

You can dive with or without buying the Flippers, but diving deep
without them is pretty impossible. You can purchase the Flippers for 200
Gold at any of the Tackle shops in the sea maps.

*----------------------------------------------------------------------*
1.3.3 Basic Commands - Bug Collecting
*----------------------------------------------------------------------*

Most bugs can be found during the day and when it is *not* raining. If
it is raining you're not going to find any bugs at all. A few bugs will
also come out at night, but not very many of them. Two of the maps don't
have any bugs at all; you won't find any at The Shore or at The Ocean.

Any square on the map has the chance to have a bug on it. Bugs are not
located only on plants and the sides of the shops. To search for a bug
just press the A BUTTON to bring up the main menu, arrow over until you
hit the second menu, and then select BUG. If there isn't a bug there
you will receive a message saying so. If there is something there you'll
switch to a close-up of that spot.

You will get different close-ups depending on what the insect is. Flying
insects (like butterflies, dragonflies, and stinging insects) will be
on a flowery background. Ground insects (like grasshoppers and ants)
will be on a ground-view background. Crawling insects (like beetles and
cicadas) will be on a tree background. Just because you switch to a
close up scene doesn't mean that there is a bug there at that time.
Sometimes there won't be anything there at all. If you leave and select
BUG again you can check the same spot; this time it may have a bug or it
may be empty again. When you finally do find a bug, you will also have a
new set of menu commands. You can CATCH, SAP, or LEAVE.

If you choose CATCH, a magnifying glass-type cursor appears on the
screen with the bug. You can move it around by using the directional pad
on your Gameboy. When you've positioned the cursor on top of the bug
then press the A BUTTON to catch the bug.

The ground and tree scenes have bugs that will walk around and then
stop, and the flower scene will have bugs that are constantly moving. On
the ground and tree scenes you *have* to wait for the bug to stop moving
in order to catch it successfully. If the bug is still moving you will
always miss. If you want to force the bug to stop that's where the SAP
comes in. You can buy Tree Sap from the old man at the Grocery Shop for
20 Gold. When you're catching bugs just pick SAP instead of CATCH. The
bug will be stuck for a little bit of time and you can easily catch it.
The bug doesn't stay there forever though and after a little bit it will
begin moving again. As for the flying bugs you just have to move the
cursor onto its flight path and wait until it flies by to catch it.

The option to LEAVE does just that. If you're not interested in catching
the bug you found, just select LEAVE. Be careful with this one, since
stinging bugs like wasps and honey bees will attack you and prevent you
from leaving.

*----------------------------------------------------------------------*
1.3.4 Basic Commands - Flower Collecting
*----------------------------------------------------------------------*

Flowers only grow in certain spots on the maps, so they're very easy to
find. Where ever you see a pink flower graphic is where you'll find a
plant you can pick.

To pick a flower just walk up to the pink flower graphic, bring up your
main menu (press the A BUTTON), arrow over until you're at the second
menu screen, and then select PIC. You will then switch to a close-up of
the flower.

There will be 3 menu options you can choose - PICK, WATER, and LEAVE. If
you choose PICK, a pair of scissors will appear above the flower. There
are two flowers on the close-up screen, but you can only pick the one in
the front. To use the scissors just press the A BUTTON. You will then
learn the name of the flower. Choosing WATER brings out your watering
can so you can water the flower, but this doesn't appear to have any
purpose. If you choose LEAVE, you will exit out of the close-up scene.

Flowers will not regrow instantly. The flower will grow back after a
shift in the day (day to night or night to day). There is a lady at The
Beach who mentions that flowers will automatically regrow if it is
raining, but that doesn't appear to be true.

*----------------------------------------------------------------------*
1.3.5 Basic Commands - Fighting monsters
*----------------------------------------------------------------------*

In order to become a strong fisherman, you have to gain experience by
fighting monsters that will randomly appear on the maps. When you
encounter a monster the screen will switch to a battle scene. The
creature that you ran into will appear in the middle and you will have
three menu options - BEAT, EAT, or RUN.

If you choose to BEAT, a hand will appear in the monster area. The hand
will move around randomly on the screen. When the hand happens to stop
on top of the picture of your enemy, press the A BUTTON to attack. The
amount of damage you inflict will appear at the bottom of the screen.
The monsters have areas on their bodies where they take more or less
damage. Also the amount of hit points you have determine how hard you
hit. If you have 95 hit points and you hit a spot that won’t inflict max
damage, you may only hit for 50. If you hit a spot that is it's weak
point though, you will hit for 97. The monster also has the same rules,
minus hitting you at a weak point. A monster will hit you for
approximately half of its total hit point. If you are fighting a Hermit
Crab it will hit you for 7 to 10 damage. If you hit it for 14, it will
only have 6 or so hit points left so then the max it will hit for is 2
or 3 damage.

When your hit points are dangerously low and you've bought food at the
Tackle or the Grocery Shop, you can choose to EAT. If you have food and
you eat it, you will regain your hit points in battle (the amount
depends on what you eat of course). EAT doesn't make you skip your turn,
so after you eat some food you can choose BEAT or RUN.

RUN is exactly that - you run away. You can run away all the time
though. There is a chance that the monster will stop you from fleeing.

If you run out of hit points you will appear back at the Inn. Remember
to actually use the Inn to recover since you will only have 1 hit point.

*----------------------------------------------------------------------*
 1.4 Game Glitches
*----------------------------------------------------------------------*

There are a few things that didn't carry over too well from the Japanese
version of the game. The main missing component is the Rumble Pack that
the game has. The rumble feature was removed when the game was
translated into english. There are a few other things that weren't
translated correctly -

- The man in the northeast corner of The Shore wants you to find him a
"S. Reabrm". Hunt all you want but you're not going to find one. He
really wants a "R. Seabrm".

- Take a look at page 35 of the game booklet. Apparently you can hit a
Seal on it's "Tale". The correct spelling is T-A-I-L.

- When the Turtle is being harrassed, the boy wants you to pay him 3
dollars to let the Turtle go. Seems like a cheap price, but the boy
needs 300 gold before he'll leave the Turtle be. He happens to forget
to mention those two extra zeros.

- The special Fish Market in The Ocean will pay you for Sardines and
Saurels. Unfortunatly he doesn't tell you how much he is going to give
you. The $ in his sentance is there, but the gold amount is missing.

- One of the monsters in The Summit is a "Cow". No you're not fighting
a giant bovine, but it's actually a bird. It is suppose to be a "Crow".

- If you go to the Remote Island and come back, the captain of the
cruiser tells you that if you want to go back just let him know. At that
point he also asks you "yes" or "no". That question was added in with
the english adaptation for some reason. You can either choose "yes" or
"no" and if you talk with the captain again he'll still give you the
choice to go to the Remote Island.

- On page 28 of the game booklet is the map of the Beach with general
locations where you'll find fish. One of the fish it mentions is a
Rockfish, which the girl by the Fish Market mentions she'll trade Tulips
for. There are no Rockfish in the Beach though; they have been named
Kasago (which is a direct translation of it's Japanese name). Rockfish
can be found in the Shore but the Tulip girl will not give you a Tulip
for them. She will only give you the flower for Kasago and Sea Sculpin.

- Near the back of the booklet are maps with the general fish locations
printed on them. On the Moor map (page 26) there is a fish listed as
Cherry Trout. There isn't a Cherry Trout in the game but there is a fish
called the Cherry Salmon that is found in the same area. (Submitted by

 2.0 The Maps
*----------------------------------------------------------------------*

There are 8 maps that you can fish on. There are 4 maps for the lake
areas and 3 maps for the sea areas. The last map is a bonus island that
appears only after you have caught the River King and the Sea King.

When you first start out you will either be at The Lake (Kid) or at The
Beach (Teen). Your house is sort of the nexus between the two types of
maps. If you head east from your home you'll end up at the sea maps. If
you head west you will be at the lake maps.

*----------------------------------------------------------------------*
 2.1 The Lake
*----------------------------------------------------------------------*

This map is directly to the west of your house and is the first one the
Kid will be able to access. This is also the smallest map.

appears. There is an extra Fish Shop in the southeast corner who will
pay you more for Darters and Loach Minnows then the normal shop will.

 2.4 The Moor
*----------------------------------------------------------------------*

This is the longest map of the lake area. It's not very wide, but it is
*very* long with a stream cutting down through the middle of it. There
is an exit back to The Stream on the east side of the stream, down to
the very south. It puts you up above the waterfall in The Stream. There
is a girl here who tells you what flowers the girl by your house wants,
and a strange little guy who lives in a cave to the northwest.

Ocean. If you rescued the Turtle back at The Beach, you will find him
swimming here far off the coast to the east.

 2.7 The Ocean
*----------------------------------------------------------------------*

This is the biggest map in the game. Most of it is covered by water, but
there are a few outcroppings of land. The only place you can park your
boat though is at the dock where the shops are in the northwest corner.

There are small gray rocks that appear in the water, which are useful
for navigation since The Ocean is so large. The Sea King is hiding out
here in the southeast corner.

 3.0 - The Walkthroughs
*----------------------------------------------------------------------*

There isn't much of a difference between playing the Kid game and
playing the Teen one. They both have to do the same tasks to guide their
way though. There are only 4 differences that are obvious between the
two;

1. The Kid starts at The Lake and the Teen starts at The Beach.
2. The Kid has Earthworms for bait and the Teen has Lugworms.
3. The Teen starts out at level 8 but the Kid starts out at level 1.
4. The quests to obtain the Watch and the Canoe are different for the
two games

You can actually complete the tasks of catching the River and Sea Kings
within a few hours. The time consuming task is to complete your memos,
but their completion is not needed to catch the two kings, only the
Fish memo needs to be completed in order to catch the King of Kings.

*----------------------------------------------------------------------*
 3.1 - The Kid Walkthrough
*----------------------------------------------------------------------*

1. The Lake
- Get the Watch
The man by the Tackle shop wants a Roach. In exchange he will give
you the Watch, which you can use to change the time. You can find
    Roach south of the Inn.
- Get the Canoe
The man by the Inn wants a Sucker Eel. He will give you one of his
best canoes if you get him one. You can find Sucker Eels in two
spots; on the north side of the bridge among the water plants or
along the shoreline just to the right of the bridge.
- Gain 10 extra hit points
The old lady who stands on the other side of the bridge wants 5 G.
Grasshoppers. You can find them just north of where she is standing.
In exchange she will give you 10 free hit points.
- Get the Tofu
An ogre blocks the path out of the Lake. He won't move until you
give him some Tofu. The foxes in the house down to the southwest are
playing a game but they need more Pink to play. You can find Pink on
the island in the middle of the Lake. Bring the flower back to the
fox and he will give you Tofu. Take the Tofu to the ogre and he will
    let you pass.

2. The Stream
- Get the 8 foot Lure Rod
The girl by the Inn doesn't want Roses anymore, but the guy behind
her would like to give her one. Give the girl a Violet and she will
give you a Rose. Give the Rose to the guy and he will give you the 8
foot Lure Rod. You can get Violets next to the save shrine.
- Get the Axe
The worker is there to build a bridge to the Summit, but he has lost
his Axe in the pond. The girl who stands by the pond says she would
like a Carp to put in it. Catch a Carp and bring it to her. She will
turn into the Goddess and give you the Axe. Return the Axe back to
the worker and he will build the bridge to the Summit. You can find
    Carp south of the waterfall.

3. The Summit
- Get a Hyacinth
There is a boy to the left of the bridge who grows the flowers for
a school project. If you bring him a Blue Gill he will give you one
    of his Hyacinths.
- Get the 14 foot Lure Rod
The man on the southern of the two islands needs to catch 3 Breams.
Catch them and in exchange he will give you his fishing rod. You can
find Breams just west of the bridge by the Hyacinth boy.
- Get the 5 foot Fly Rod
Two people up to the north are trying to catch a Catfish. Just south
of them you can find the fish they want. Give them one and the dad
will give you the 5 foot Fly Rod.
- Talk to Yuki
Yuki is sitting on some rocks at the waterfall. She will tell you
the River King is in the water but he won't appear until it rains.
She tells you to go to the ocean and talk to the princess of the
Underwater Palace about a Cloud Seed Slug.

4. The Beach
- Get the Small Surf Rod
A man to the east of the Tackle shop is trying to catch Opaleye for
dinner. In exchange he will give you his Small Surf Rod. You can
find Opaleye just south of where he is standing.
- Get a Tulip
The girl north of the Fish Market will exchange Tulips for cute
fish. If you give her a Kasago or a Sea Sculpin she will give you a
S-ranked Tulip. She mentions Rockfish but if you bring her one she
    won't give you a Tulip.
- Save the Turtle
Along the shoreline is a boy who is pestering a turtle. If you pay
the boy 300 gold (he says 3 dollars but he wants 300) he will let
the turtle go. The turtle thanks you and tells you to meet him out
in the water at the Shore.

5. The Shore
- Your Dad's boat
The Canoe you have isn't strong enough for the water of the Shore so
your Dad is willing to let you use his boat. He wants a P. Oyster
before he will take you anywhere though. Go back to the Beach and
dive into the water in the northeast corner to find the P. Oyster.
Return it to your Dad to get his boat.
- Find the Turtle
If you take the boat all the way to the east from the dock and a
little to the north you will find the Turtle. Dive into the water
and swim down to the Underwater Palace. The princess there says she
can make a Cloud Seed Slug, but she needs a Cloud Sea Slug to do it
with. You can find the slugs along the coastline in the Beach. Bring
her one to exchange it for a Cloud Seed Slug. Return the slug back
to Yuki in the Summit. Yuki says you need one more item - a lure to
    catch the River King with.

6. The Stream
- Get the Pickax
The worker is now standing in the northwest corner of the Stream. He
has lost another one of his tools, this time it is a Pickax. He will
give you the Axe back. Take the Axe back to the Goddess who will
exchange it for the Pickax. The worker will then break a hole into
the side of the cliff that leads to the Moor.

7. The Moor
- Get the 11 foot Fly Rod
The lady by the Inn wants a Brook Trout. You can find them in the
farthest southern waters. In exchange she will give you the 11 foot
    Fly Rod.
- The 7 Spring Herbs
The girl who stands in your mom's flower garden mentions she would
like the 7 spring herbs, but she doesn't know what they are. A girl

A boy north of the bridge will give you a Pansy if you bring him a
pretty fish. Show him a Cherry Salmon and he will exchange it for
the flower. You can find the fish just to the northeast of where he
    is standing.
- Get the Cucumber
The girl on the other side of the water and east of the Fish Market
will give you a Cucumber for a Rainbow Trout. Catch a R.Trout just

    her Cucumbers.

door and takes it. Kappa says he can make you a lure to catch the
River King with, but it's too dark in his cave. Head back outside
and to the east to catch him a Heike Firefly and a Genji Firefly.
Now his cave will be lite enough to see. Give him your Frog Lure and
he will modify it so you can catch the king.

8. The Summit
- Brown Trout Contest
Take the lure back to Yuki who is now all ready to make it rain. Her
dad then appears and tells you that you and Yuki need to have a

need to catch a Brown Trout that is at least 65 cm long. Give it to
Yuki and after you win she will make it rain.
- Catch the River King
Once it starts to rain the River King will appear. He will be among
the Snakehead fish in the northwest corner of the lake. Use your 14
foot Lure rod and Kappa's Frog Lure to catch him. Once he is caught
you will check with your brother to see if he has caught the Sea
King. Your brother hasn't done what he is suppose to do so he
requests that you complete it for him.

but it will go away if he had a Scarab. Go back to the Stream and
get a Dung Beetle from the southwest corner. Your Dad will allow you
back on the boat and the two of you can then get to the dock in the
    northeast corner.

Just to the south where you park your boat is a guy trying to catch
"S. Reabrm" for his sister's wedding. He actually wants a Red

one to him and he will give you the 30b Trolling Rod.

- Get the Small Boat Rod
Just south of the Tackle Shop is a man who wants a Yellowtail You

can't while the mermaid is singing. He says the sound of a cicada
will stop her. Walk back to the Stream and behind the Fish Market
you will find S. Cicadas. Bring one back and the mermaid's singing
will stop so you can use the cruiser.
- Visit the Mermaids
Take the cruiser to the shipwreck in the southeast corner and dive
into the water. Down at the bottom you will find the Mermaids. One
of them says she saw an old man who can help you out, but she won't
tell you where he went until you bring her 2 Scallops. You can find
the shellfish just southwest of the lighthouse. Bring them back and
she tells you he headed to an island in the Shore.

11. The Shore
- Get the 130b Trolling Rod
Take the cruiser back to the Shore and down to the island in the
southeast corner. Dock your boat and go into the cave, where you
will find the old man. At first he won't talk to you but then he
recognizes Momo as one of his granddaughter's dolls. He says he's
there to get the 130b Trolling Rod he hid in the cave eons ago when
he was forced to catch the Sea King. He will give you the rod if you
can beat him in a fishing contest. The old man wants you to catch at
least a 230 cm Spearfish. You can find the Spearfish just north of

Equip your new 130b Trolling Rod and a Squid fly and go back out to
the shipwreck. The Sea King will then appear a little northwest of
the wreak disguised as a Blue Tuna. After you catch him Yuki will be
able to combine the stones back into the Heaven Jewel. Inside the
jewel though you see a small island.

13. The Remote Island
- Catch the King of Kings
Start your saved game up and you'll begin from your house. Your Dad
tells you to go talk w/ the captain of the cruiser to reach the
island you saw in the Heaven Jewel. Walk back to the Shore and go
to the island, which happens to be Yuki's home. She's in trouble
again and her Dad can't think of a good punishment. He will forgive
her though if you can catch him in fish-form. There are 103
different fish in the Fish Memo and you need to have a page for each
one (See parts 2.0 to 2.8 of this FAQ for info on the fish). After
you catch all 103 fish and talk with Yuki, the King of Kings will
reveal himself. He will be located around the base of the cliff
where Yuki is standing, in among the King Salmon. After he is caught
he will forgive her for all the trouble she has caused.

Underwater Palace about a Cloud Seed Slug.

11. The Beach
- Save the Turtle
Along the shoreline is a boy who is pestering a turtle. If you pay
the boy 300 gold (he says 3 dollars but he wants 300) he will let
the turtle go. The turtle thanks you and tells you to meet him out
in the water at the Shore.

12. The Shore

13. The Stream

like the 7 spring herbs, but she doesn't know what they are. A girl
by the Fish Market here will tell you the flowers you want are Bee
Nettle, Chickweed, Cottonweed, Parsley, Radish, Shepherd's Purse,
and Turnip. Bring these 7 back to the girl at home and she will
reward you with 40 extra hit points.

need to catch a Brown Trout that is at least 65 cm long. Give it to
Yuki and after you win she will make it rain.
- Catch the River King
Once it starts to rain the River King will appear. He will be among
the Snakehead fish in the northwest corner of the lake. Use your 14
foot Lure rod and Kappa's Frog Lure to catch him. Once he's caught
you will return to your house so that Yuki can put the Heaven Jewel
back together. Inside the jewel you see an island though.

16. The Remote Island
- Catch the King of Kings
Start your saved game up and you'll begin from your house. Your Dad

where Yuki is standing, in among the King Salmon. After he is caught
he will forgive her for all the trouble she has caused.

*----------------------------------------------------------------------*
 4.0 - Trading
*----------------------------------------------------------------------*

You can trade bugs, fish, flowers, and shellfish to and from another
LotRK2 game. You can also trade fish, bugs, and flowers to and from
Harvest Moon 2, another game published by Natsume in November of 2000.

*----------------------------------------------------------------------*
4.1 - Trading with Legend of the River King 2
*----------------------------------------------------------------------*

Use the Gamelink Cable to hook you and your friend's Gameboys together.
Turn both of your Gameboys on and then start your game. Walk to the
Grocery Shop and talk to the old man inside. He will have two options;
Tools or Comm. You want to select Comm to trade.

You will be prompted to save your game. Once you finish saving you will
be taken to the trading menu. You can choose which container you want
to trade to/from. You can choose your Cooler, Cage, or Basket. Make
sure that you actually have items inside your containers. If you don't
have anything in the containers then you don't have anything to trade.

There are limitations to trading. You can only trade a bug for another
bug, a flower for a flower, and a fish/shellfish for another fish or
shellfish. For example, if you try to trade a flower for a bug you will
receive a message telling you that the trade could not be made.

When you have finished trading press the B button to exit your
container and then B again to cancel out of the communications center.
You will be asked if you wish to continue trading. Select "no" or press
the B button again to exit.

*----------------------------------------------------------------------*
 4.2 - Trading with Harvest Moon 2
*----------------------------------------------------------------------*

One of you need to have a Harvest Moon 2 game and the other have LotRK2.
Start the two games. The LotRK2 player needs to go to the Grocery Shop,
talk to the old man, and select "Comm" from the menu. The HM2 player
needs to walk to Mary's Library and select the Communication Center.
Remember Mary's Library is not open on Sundays or on most event days.

Unlike trading between LotRK2, there are only certain items you can
trade from and to HM2. You can only trade 18 different fish, 27 bugs,
and 4 flowers. Also like LotRK2 trading, you have to trade for the same
type. You can't trade a fish for a bug, a flower for a fish, or a bug
for a flower.

To complete your Flower Memo in LotRK2 you *have* to trade with HM2. The
4 flowers you need are Camomile, Sage, Saffron, and Rosemary. Since you
have to trade a flower for a flower, there are 4 flowers that don't
normally appear in HM2 that you can trade. Those 4 are Pink, Amarylis,
Narcisus, and G. Lily. The person who has the HM2 game can't trade for
those 4 flowers if the Hot House is full of plants. Once you trade the
flowers from LotRK2 to HM2, they will appear in the flower section of
the Hot House. They're pictures will also be placed in Mary's Plant
book, although they won't have page numbers.

You can also trade bugs for bugs. There are a few bugs I have not seen
anywhere in LotRK2 but appear in HM2. Those bugs are M. Butterfly, O.S.
Beetle, and H. Beetle. These 3 bugs will complete your Bug memo.

ITEMS YOU CAN TRADE TO HARVEST MOON 2

        FLOWERS BUGS FISH
Amarylis All Butterflies Only those that are
       G. Lily All Dragonflies already in HM2
       Narcisus All Cicadas
         Pink Ant Lion
                            All Stag Beetles
                             Both Fireflies
                                 Ladybug

ITEMS THAT YOU NEED FROM HARVEST MOON 2

            FLOWERS BUGS
            Camomile H. Beetle
            Saffron M. Butterfly
             Sage O.S. Beetle
            Rosemary

*----------------------------------------------------------------------*

 6.0 - Monster List
*----------------------------------------------------------------------*

While on your journey you will randomly come across enemies. You can't
see the enemies on the map; they will attack you unseen and you will be
taken to the battle screen. See section 1.3.5 for instructions on how to
fight.

Each monster will have a weak point on it's body. If you hit the monster
on certain points you will cause more damange. Monsters can either fight
you, sit there and do nothing, or steal your fish! The fish stealing can
be very aggrivating if you are low on cash.

Listed below are the monsters you will come across in LotRK2. The hit
points, exp, and weak points are provided for you in the manual that

 7.0 Memo page entries
*----------------------------------------------------------------------*

When you collect a bug/fish/plant/shell, an entry will be inputted into
the corresponding memo book. Each entry also has a page number. There
are 104 fish, 24 shells, 48 bugs, and 32 flowers.

When you get something for the first time, it's not automatically
placed on it's correct page. For example if you've found all the fish
in the Lake (so you have 6 pages) and once you hit the Stream you caught
a Carp, the Carp will be placed on page 7 instead of page 12 where it
belongs. Once you have caught the Ayu, Barbel, Bleeding Shiner, Rock
Bass, and Dace the Carp will be bumped to page 12. Any other fish you
will catch will be put on a page past page 12.

The advantage of ordering the memos this way is to look to see what page
you may be missing in your memo. If you notice your Ormer (shell) is
on page 5 but your Cloud Sea Slug is on page 4 where it belongs, you
are missing the T. Shell since the Ormer actually belongs on page 6. The
disadvantage to this is if you don't know what goes on the pages before
hand you will have no idea what pages you're missing.

Below is the page listing for all 4 memos.

 8.0 Revision History
*----------------------------------------------------------------------*

Friday, 07 September 2001
Version 2.8 - Several months later the Ocean *and* Remote Island fish
stats are completed. Now all 104 fish are documented.
            - Added the Ocean, Remote Island, and missing Stream loc
              maps.
            - Added section 7, which documents what is on any specific
page on all of the memos.
            - Was emailed another game glitch by a Faq reader, added
              that into section 1.4
            - Faq is now 100% complete. No additional updates are
              necessary.

Tuesday, 26 June 2001
Version 2.4 - Completed all of the fish in The Shore (section 2.6) and
added the location map url. Shore is now 100% completed
with 75/104 fish documented. The Shore was half finished
in version 2.3 but was missing the remaining fish and the
location map (hence why it only took me a week to
              complete).
            - The Ocean will take a long time to complete. The map is
twice as wide as The Lake and just as long as The Beach
with only a small amount of actual land. It may be faster
to complete the Remote Island map since it only has 7 fish
and they're all located in the same general area.

Tuesday, 19 June 2001
Version 2.3 - Completed the fish information for The Beach (section 2.5)
and added The Beach location map url. (65/104 completed).
Beach section is now 100% complete.

Tuesday, 23 May 2001
Version 2.2 - Added location map url for The Lake (section 2.1). Lake
              section is 100% complete.
            - Added location map url for The Summit (section 2.3).
              Summit section is 100% complete.
            - Added location map url for The Moor (section 2.4). Moor
              section is 100% complete.
            - Completed lotsa fish (50/104 completed)

Friday, 27 April 2001
Version 2.0 - Added Monster information (section 6.0)
            - Added Game Glitches (section 1.4)
            - Completed information on 10 fish (30/104 completed)

Friday, 13 April, 2001
Version 1.0 - First release, most information added to the faq.
