Aqua Rock, a dungeon in the Apojii Islands, is likely based off real-world counterpart Cerro Azul (meaning "blue hill") in the Galapagos Islands. This connection is more evident since the Japanese name for the Apojii Islands translates to "Garapas Island".
Air's Rock -- an arid, hair-pulling mountain dungeon in the middle of nowhere -- is based on the famous Australian landmark, Ayers Rock. Furthermore, the world of Weyard is loosely modelled on Earth's continents, which makes Osenia (Air's Rock's location) the geographical analogue of Australia.
There are several hints in the game files, particularly the order of character portraits, that suggest Alex was supposed to be the final party member instead of Piers. This culminates in a small chat when the party meets up with Alex after Piers joins the party, where Alex makes a subtle remark about "being replaced."
