Connection to Other Media
The Bullet Tip whip upgrade is based on Christopher Belmont's fireball attack from Castlevania: The Adventure. In the Japanese version, the item is even called "Christopher Soul."

In one of the rooms found in the Den of Skeletons, a statue is visible in the background. This statue heavily resembles Dracula's final form in Castlevania III.
In the Den of Skeletons, in the background you can find skeletons of the bosses Slogra and Gaibon, both from Super Castlevania IV and Symphony of the Night.
There is a monster you fight called the Simon Wraith, as it mimicked the protagonist Simon from the original Castlevania. In Japanese, it was called Shimon, which is how you write Simon in that language. The kanji literally meant "Gates of Death".
As with most other Castlevania games, this also references JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. By using the fist subweapon without having any elemental spellbook activated you can hear Juste cry "Ora Ora Ora!", which has the same cry as the iconic Star Platinum from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
Another reference to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is the item Stone Mask, which is said to be a creepy mask used in ancient rituals according to the item descriptions. In the said media it's referencing, the mask can turn anyone into vampires if it's worn by anyone and a blood is spilled on it.
