  1. You cant change its color once you already have it as a certain coloc, but you can control what color you want it to be. When you first start the game, you should put the name of the color you want it to be as your name. Remember to put it all in lowercase though. (i.e. blue)

  2. The color of the Yoshi you get depends on the time you have had the egg from which it is hatched, specifically following this chart:

0-6 minutes after getting the egg = Green
6-9 minutes after getting the egg = Red
9-12 minutes after getting the egg = Orange
12-14 minutes after getting the egg = Blue
14-18 minutes after getting the egg = Pink
18-19 minutes after getting the egg = Black
19-20 minutes after getting the egg = formally "White", but in reality a "Light-Blue"

This is essentially how it goes, although from what I hear, the time to get a Black Yoshi is actually less than a minute (by how much though, I'm not sure)... The timer starts as soon as you end the conversation during which the egg "joins your party" from the top of Hoggle's roof...

  3. You can either name your file to match the color like Maelstrom97 said:

or do it how mariowiki.com (this is not an advertisement!!) says to do it:

The color of Yoshi is determined by the amount of time that passes between the point where its egg joins Mario's party atop the Hot Dog Stand to when Mario eventually meets the newborn dinosaur after running from the Armored Harriers. The egg starts off with a green Yoshi Kid inside, and changes color every few minutes, as shown on the chart below. If more than 20 minutes elapse before the Yoshi Kid hatches, the cycle restarts. The color has no effect on his power, despite popular belief.

    Time / Color
    0-6 Minutes / Green
    6-9 Minutes / Red
    9-11 Minutes / Blue
    11-15 Minutes / Orange
    15-18 Minutes / Pink
    18-19 Minutes / Black
    19-20 Minutes / White
