No, this game won't take place in a backyard.

The popular kid's sports series, Backyard (insert sport here), first started on the PC. Later on, it was also released for the Game Boy Advance, and soon after, the series was released into the GameCube. Backyard Baseball was the first one out of the many titles, but I prefer the PC version of it better.

Gameplay: 7/10

The gameplay for Backyard Baseball is rather simplistic, and adds some "special moves" to add more variety and fun into the game. These moves can become cheap and unfair, but seriously, the AI is really dumb, so it wouldn't matter anyway. Still, it's fun running around the bases and hitting a home run once in a while. There are different players to choose from, some made up, and some of your favorite MLB characters, that were designed so that they look like kids. Each of them have their own stats and rosters. You'll play on different fields, each having their own unique environment. Some will affect how the ball moves, others will allow easier hitting. Each field is different and has a certain challenge that makes this a crazy game.

Graphics: 7/10

As I just said, Backyard Baseball turns real MLB players into kid versions of them. They aren't sharp, but they work out okay at the end. The camera is nice and zooms in on important plays and out on the field. The graphics aren't detailed enough, just basic stuff.

Sound: 7/10

The sound is quite funny, and the music is nice as well. Each player has their own "theme" song, for when they come up to bat or when they hit a home run. The voices sound silly, like they should, and the sound will vary depending on the field you're playing on.

Control: 7/10

The controls are typical for a baseball game. You'll pitch and hit, but sometimes, it's hard to be accurate and you might accidentally mess up. Watch out for this.

Scores:
Gameplay: 7/10
Graphics: 7/10
Sound: 7/10
Control: 7/10
Replay: AVERAGE
Difficulty: WAY BELOW AVERAGE
Fun Factor: ABOVE AVERAGE
Final: 7/10

Backyard Baseball is a nice change of pace from the realistic baseball games, and it'll give you a good laugh or two once in a while. I'd suggest renting it, so that after you're done with the good parts of the game, you can return it without hesitation. However, you might have a hard time finding this game, so look hard.
