A tremendous crossover if there ever was one!
To say the least, Wario became the icon oddball Nintendo brought in at the time, and this crossover with Bomberman is like none other! Not many games like this comes around our stores very often...
The porky Mario twin meets his match when his home is under attack by bomb-throwing creatures called the Bombermen. If Wario wants to rid his kingdom from the squad, he must beat them in their own game - by laying explosive devices known as bombs around various mazes to defeat the enemy. Otherwise, you choose Bomberman, who lead the invasion to Wario's world and will be humbled to take his kingdom for himself! What will you do?
Yep, you can select either Wario or Bomberman at the start and take them through to the end of the game. However, there is no to this than bombing walls to burn baddies - elements from previous Bomberman adventures such as teleports and bomb targets (where you kick a bomb and it goes the way the arrow on the floor points) are there to excite gamers from the start. Also, pick up power-ups to improve your tactics to burn out from one to three enemies throughout eight different stages. Win two out of three rounds to advance to the next level and so on. In fact, this is straightforward if you're a Bomberman fan and if you know the rules.
Special abilities are available after beating bosses on each seperate stage, but I won't spoil them for you as you'll have to see to believe them yourself! They will help beating the later and difficult levels a lot as well as dealing with a trio of enemies along the way. The only drawback is that the countless mazes may become too repetitive at times; this can be prevented by the number of strategies you can can across, for instance, kicking an enemy bomb trapping a bad guy sounds fun to do.
Check out the scores below if it helps you:
Bomberman and his gang invades Wario's world and it's up to you to be Wario and thrash the Bombermen or become Bomberman and wipe the twisted guy out of his kingdom. An okayish story reflecting on two playable roles.
Unique-looking stages and environments but can become too repetitive sometimes.
Great mazes and enemy details but watch out for those flaming blasts!
The password system can come in handy, especially when challenging those darn bosses for yet another time. The earlier levels are easy enough.
Buy or Rent?
Whether you're a Wario fan and/or a Bomberman fan, this is a real challenge depending who you support. This is a really essential buy if you fancy 'something different' from
