About this guide
I am not a native speaker of English and I have been visiting GameFAQs regularly without contributing to the site since 2008. I think that my English has improved enough by now to write a FAQ. Since this is my first one, it will be for this simplistic, yet addicting game named Paper Airplane Chase.
If you encounter any mistakes, whether orthographic, stylistic, or guide-wise, or if you have any suggestions, feel free to contact me at lynguistiks (at) gmail (dot) com.
You can do with this FAQ anything you want (print it, save it, link to it, etc), unless you alter it or claim it your own work. Plagiarists are ostracized.
Basics
In this minimalist DSiWare title, you control a paper plane using only the left and the right button of the directional pad, plus the Y and the A button in two-player mode.
The paper plane has a total of 9 sprites and can thus fly to 9 directions: 4 states of flying left, 4 states of flying right, and one state of flying down.
One short tap on the directional pad changes your plane's direction by one state; the longer you touch the D-pad button, the more your plane changes its direction.
By the way, this game has 5 music tracks:
- Track 1 for the menu
- Track 2 for the Time Attack mode and for every odd-numbered minute of the Endless mode (eg. first minute, third minute, etc)
- Track 3 for every even-numbered minute of the Endless mode (eg. second minute, fourth minute, etc)
- Track 4 is a remix of Track 2 and used for the Race mode
- Track 5 is used when you finish a Time Attack level
Endless
This is the main mode of the game because you will probably be spending the biggest part of your time on this mode.
The plane starts gliding within a bottomless tower with windows and obstacles, around which you must manoeuvre your plane. After every 20 obstacles, you will encounter a row of ten steady obstacles with a big gap in the middle. That is, you will be just be flying downwards and you can take a break while doing so. After that gap, a Wario character will appear in one of the windows and display your time for the past 30 obstacles. Additionally, the color of the bricks will change, and the further you fly, the darker will the outlook of the windows become. The Wario characters will appear five times altogether, from level 2 to level 6.
In the following table, I will be covering the nature of the obstacles, the color of the bricks, the quotation of the Wario characters, and the outlook of the window.
obstacles | tips | brick color | quotation | outlook | obstacle # | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
level 1 | slim (mostly alternating between left and right) | Just navigate around the obstacles. | grey | n/a | very bright | 1--20 |
level 2 | middle-sized (mostly alternating between left and right) | Just navigate around the obstacles. | red | You own. Wooooooow. DJ. You legally own. | bright | 31--50 |
level 3 | big (mostly alternating between left and right) | Navigate slowly around the obstacles using the most left and the most right state of your plane. | green | Ahh, watchou doin'. Give it some care. Hey, watch out. (Alternatively: Haha. OK.) | bright | 61--80 |
level 4 | big obstacles in a line, fast | You can fly straight downwards for most of the time. Evade the obstacles. Watch the bottom screen. | yellow | Yeah. Hurry up. | dawn | 91--110 |
level 5 | big, fast | You have to play concentrated. Evade the obstacles, watch the bottom screen. Just give your best. | purple | Time go up. | dark | 121--140 |
level 6 | big, random, fast | You have to play concentrated. Evade the obstacles, watch the bottom screen. Just give your best. | another shade of purple | n/a | black | 151--170 |
level X | big, random, very fast | You have to play concentrated. Evade the obstacles, watch the bottom screen. Just give your best. I made it to 278. | unchanged from level 6 | n/a | black | from 171 on |
Time Attack
When you start your game for the first time, there are only the first five Time Attack levels available. If you play them or if you come a long way in the Endless mode, the remaining three levels will be unlocked.
I will cover the nature of obstacles of each level and I will provide some tips for each level.
obstacles | tips | my record | |
---|---|---|---|
level 1 | slim obstacles | Try not to use the most left and the most right state of your plane, that would slow you down. | 0' 16" 61 |
level 2 | mostly a row of gaps | Try to fly straight downwards for most of the time, that will speed you up. | 0' 21" 40 |
level 3 | a long gap to the left, a long gap to the right, and various obstacles | Try to fly the shortest path. | 0' 09" 35 |
level 4 | slim obstacles, moving slim obstacles, mid-sized obstacles, moving mid-sized obstacles, big obstacles, moving long obstacles | Try to fly the shortest path and try to fly straight downwards through the moving obstacles if possible. | 0' 16" 63 |
level 5 | a row of narrow gaps | Try to fly straight downwards for most of the time. Avoid the most left and the most right state of your plane. | 0' 12" 43 |
level 6 | dark level; the order of the obstacles is: left, right, left, right, left, left, gap, right, left, right, left, right, right, gap | Memorize the level and fly the shortest path. | 0' 13" 30 |
level 7 | dark level with moving obstacles and gaps | You have to fly as follows: downwards, left, downwards, right, through the middle. | 0' 12" 63 |
level 8 | very fast level with normal gaps, narrow gaps and moving obstacles | Memorize the level and fly straight downwards for most of the time. For the last part with the narrow gaps, you have to fly just in the middle of the screen. | 0' 13" 31 |
Race
Player one plays on the top screen using the directional pad and player two plays on the bottom screen using the Y and A buttons. You race through one of the Time Attack levels. If your plane crashes, it will be restored after a short while where it crashed. You will have some fun with this mode with a friend.
There is not much more to say.

For scores set before 2010, I will use the posts in the message board, but I will mark those with "unconfirmed". For scores set in 2010 or later you have to confirm your score with a photo. Upload it to some image hoster and send your name and the link to lynguistiks (at) gmail (dot) com.

Conclusion
I think I covered every aspect of the game and have done a good job for writing my first FAQ. Self-praise, I know. ^^
