Killing Ghosts has never been this FUN!
Danny Phantom: Urban Jungle is easily a hidden gem on the Nintendo DS. It's one of those games you'd walk into a store, see, and turn your head to the next title. You'd be surprised though, because the game you just overlooked is one of the funnest games on the DS. Sure it's no Mario or Pokemon. But it truly is a wonderful, addictive game.
The game itself is based off the hit tv show, Danny Phantom. For those who are unfamiliar with the show it's about a boy who has ghost powers and rids the world of evil ghosts. The game portrays that very well. Whether you are a fan of the show or not, you can easily play this game and find it highly enjoyable. If you are a fan of the show, it will please you to see other characters and scenarios from various episodes played out in the game.
And now for a break up of different parts of the game, I will give you an official review.
Urban Jungle is a side scrolling shooter, a genre on the DS that has very few games. Sadly, that means it's one of few FUN games, as the genre itself is very enjoyable. During the game you play as Danny Phantom, a ghost boy. The game is made up of different worlds with levels within them. On each level Danny flies through, shooting at various ghosts of different types. It's a pure button smashing adventure. Danny has different powers that you unlock as you move on in the game and at the end of each world is a different boss ghost (as seen on the show) that you will need to defeat.
Honestly, the story doesn't matter the least bit in this game. The gameplay is the part you'll enjoy. But there is a story. And honestly, I've played the game so many times and skipped all the story scenes so I don't quite remember it but I do know it's basically like the show.
The noises of this game are completely amazing. Danny's ghost powers sound like guns off a spaceship. It gives it an amazing arcade feel and just makes you feel so content and having a blast. There's also some great ghost action fighting music to accompany.
The graphics in the game are pretty decent. It's mostly 2D, with Danny and the ghosts being that but the side scrolling background and world are some what of a 3D look. It doesn't take away from the game though, and it's kind of cool, seeing the ghostly like world. Expect lots of splashes of color from greens, to blues, to purples. Very bright and lively.
Overall this is a very amazing game. I have no idea how it's not that popular and if you're looking for something old school that you can pick up and play over and over again, this is the game for you. The only real flaw is that it's a much shorter game but to some people that is actually a good thing. Because like old school platformers and shooters, you'll find yourself beating it over and over again.
