Consoles do not connect over wireless play?

When attempting wireless play with another console, the wireless connection shows no bars, and the games cannot join, yet pictochat and all other wireless games we've tried have not had a problem.
The games are from different regions (Aus and Eur) but have not had this problem with other games.

To answer my own question, I've bought a third copy of the game. Multiplayer ONLY works between similar regions, ie. US and US, EUR and EUR and AUS and AUS.
