I just started up the game and I am constantly forced to pull up a guide to know what to do next.

1. Gate to the kingdom closed, had to Google it's only opened at day time.

2. Go to Goron, I need to show proof, before I showed proof with a letter from zelda to open the gate, not this, so I watched the in-game hint, to go to lost forest get song, then I go back to Goron an play song, and nothing, so I googled again.

3. Went to castle at night, got past the moat but the guards stood in a way that I couldn't get past, but for some reason at day time they were no longer in a pattern that block my away, this one was coincidental.

4. Now Goron sends me away no hint, so I run around, one Goron says the forest song make them happy, so I played that Goron that song and he did nothing, so again, I had to Google, turns out only the leader actually react to the song.

5. I found 6 of the chicken, couldn't find the last one, so again I googled turns out one was in a box.

Seriously this game is loaded with random bull.

How long did it take you to beat? I'm in the forest temple and had to Google to solve the moving cubes, turns out there was a ladder in a crevice, not visible unless you looked for it.

And hitting the eye in this temple is completely meaningless unlike before, like wtf Nintendo, why randomly change established norms to truck the player.

None of this is random. Just speak with NPCs and explore the environment. Ocarina of Time telegraphs you how to solve & find everything.

Are you shooting it with the Hookshot or the dungeon item you get from the Forest Temple?

Sounds like a You problem, there are tons of hints on where to go, and even more of them in this version.

Yes I was, Googled, turned out only the arrow works.

It was also reinforced by the fact the hookshot got me into the dungeon so it should be useable.

Important to keep in mind that the Hookshot uses a very different kind of panel, though. Plus, the Hookshot failing on the eye switch is a tell that it's not the Fairy Slingshot replacement (though the fact it doesn't damage enemies also conveys that.)

That's a lot to read into, guess I am just used to link Between world mechanic, where if I think it works it works.
