I just bought a 2ds, so I’m new to the system and unfamiliar with its online capabilities.

Does matchmaking for its online games work similarly to a PS4?

What is a good online game to with a current player base that is a good demonstration of the 3ds in action?

It depends on the game, but generally the matchmaking isn't as good. Nintendo is not known for the quality of their Internet services, though I suppose matchmaking is the least of it. I imagine that Mario Kart 7 is a good illustration of this, but it'll take forever to go up against good players. Then again, if you're used to less flexible controls and a lack of item nonsense, it may take a while to get good at the game, yourself.

Just beware: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS has this system where it slows up based on lag, so that every frame of input is read and shown. It's a problem when you're up against a laggy player and there's no way to avoid it, really.
The problem is not Republicans nor Democrats. The problems are radicals and reactionaries. People who are unwilling to listen nor compromise, only yell.

I love the 3DS online play and use it every days for games like:

Monster Hunter games
Mario Kart 7
Street Fighter IV
Battleminerz
Ice Station Z
Heroes of Ruin
Luigis Mansion 2
Ironfall Invasion
Steeldiver Sub Wars
RE Mercenaries
Zelda Triforce Heroes

I know there is more, but these are the game I played and that are fairly active. Dead or Alive for example is f***ing dead. Please add more to this list, if you know some good online games.

Monster Hunter games

In case TC doesn't realize it, MH3U has no online multiplayer at all. MH4U is sadly depopulated, and most of those players are either cheaters or have cheated gear. Not sure about Generations. I've never played it online, but a friend of mine does, so there's still some playerbase left.

That is not true! Ok 3U has basically no online, but 4U and Gen's playerbase is alive and well!
I hunt almost everyday with randoms and it's fairly easy to get a full hall with decent players for any kind of quest.
Can't talk about Stories, haven't touched that for a year.
