Should I just send it in? I turn it on and the screen goes black.

There's a button combo you can try when you boot the system to force it to update again and potentially fix it. I think you have to hold both shoulder button, and A button, and maybe d-pad down as you power on. I'll try searching to see if that's the correct combo.

Oh, my mistake, looks like you have to hold L, R, A, and up on the d-pad as you turn it on.

How long have you had it? If it's been only about a year or less, Nintendo will fix it for free, more than likely.
If you tell them it was because of the update, they may fix it for free even out of warranty.

Sorry to hear that, man. My 3DS said an error occurred while I was downloading this update. So it shut itself off, then I turned it back on and retried the update (Which then worked).

If you do tell Nintendo (And I hope you do, even if you can't do anything for your 3DS now- because you can save other people's, potentially!), tell them that other people are having errors as well with the new update.

Thank God I'm not bricked, though, because I'm not under warranty and haven't got another $230 to spend since I'm getting a Wii U this holiday season. I'm sorry to hear you got bricked, though. My honest sympathy to you!

give nintendo a call the worst is they will make you pay after fixing it otherwise when they are running the diagnostics on it they should see it bricked during flash and "know" that it was updating when the brick happened so they should do it for free even out of warranty but tis nintendo so you never know
