I just barely made it to Mars and I never drop out from a match. Even when it's someone from the Sun League. There's nothing to loose really. Plus I take a little pride when I give 'em a run for their money. I also believe it helps with improving technique and strategy.
It's only after you have lost everything that you are free to do anything.
I have to admit, I will drop a match if my opponent obviously outclasses me (has all of the uber-weapons and is 100% on the Sun). However, like the above poster, I think a good occasional challenge can only improve technique. We all started out playing people farther along than us.
