I read on your post that upgrade is bare bone? Could you please elaborate us on how upgrades are done? (Like, with money or experience)
Assuming you have a heavy machine gun/shotgun:
you kill an enemy and randomly a green light will fall by the dead enemy and say "UPGRADE". the game says that you can upgrade the weapon if you keep collecting ammo for it as well.
however this has some strange effects.over the course of my play through, i collected a lot of ammo for my red heavy machine gun. the first few times, it said ammo clip upgraded +40%, then after that it kept saying the same for soo many times. then at some point it stopped at 400bullets. and even if i was still collecting ammo and the messages said ammo clip upgraded, there was no change. it was still 400.
the menu shows the guns you have. and there rank. i am not into military stuff but it seems like the weapon have ranks symbols like Sergent, private, commander etc. the menu also show the guns stats. but even after upgrading my heavy machine gun for sooo long, scatter was stuck at B, and power was stuck at C. weapon damage is power but however much you upgrade (or so you think you upgrade), the enemies dont seem to react to it or the upgrades are not visible. it takes the same amount of bullets and effort to kill enemies as it does with a non upgraded weapon.
the only random upgrade that seems to work is the rate of fire. and this was effective with my shotgun. but i only got on. the game randomly gave it to me but that was after about 5 shotgun UPGRADE lights.
this applies to all weapons. so the upgrade system is more down to LUCK that an enemy drops a green UPGRADE light or if the game actually auto upgrades the weapon or gives you the upgrade. this is where those who like grinding will have fun. but its RANDOM.
What? no customization and accessory?! but I heard in this board that suit customization exist. Is it just a cruel rumor? I assume there isn't any shop whatsoever?
NO CUSTOMIZATION at all. the suit remains the same from start to finish. its only at the
SPOILERS
final boss (or so you think) that it gives you a minimal boost in your suit cool down. have not seen a new game + button/feature. so yeah.
you can kiss goodbye to playing through with the minimal cool down boost to the suit. i went back to the first stage and i had the same easily overheating suit.
no accessories as well. NOTHING. no shop no accessories no suit colors nothing NOTHING.
Are there any collectibles hidden item throughout the stages? (like max HP up pieces, etc)
yes there are collectible/hidden items. they are known as panglos statues., they make stupid kiddish noises when you melee/shoot them. they are gold and any contact makes them red.
they ahve NO EFFECT on you or your stats or your suit. they are just for an achievement.
no HP or damage upgrade etc.
The gameplay overall is ok, and you have to be a planner coz you can not just run ,slide , cover and gun.
cover = death, running = death, shooting = death, sliding = over heat, melee = over heat etc.
you can not do all these things. even if you are in cover, you get pwnd. even if you are in the slow motion mode by the suit, you can die, even if you are shooting tons of bullets at enemies, you can die, melee is only advisable if you have only one enemy next to you. one melee attack renders your suit useless and over heated.
the enemy A.I is programmed to go in for the kill. any time your suit over heats,m they will drop whatever they are doing and come and god pwn you. at this point one attack from them = death.
the story is good, has elements of politics, friendship and acceptance. the ending however has a scene that i think was too over the top or graphic for the current political propaganda world we live in today.
but i understand why it happened though i believe US of A fan boys/girls might feel offended.
either ways, the game is unique ,good and looks good. graphics are awesome. lip syncing is AAAAA +++++.
the ending either hints at Vanquish 2 but we all know that in the current gaming community , story DLC
is the answer and sequels are becoming a dieing breed.
