Maybe a 3.5, but its definitely, in my opinion, an above average game.

Are we talking out of 5 or out of 10?

That just seems wrong, anyway.

Less than 20% of GameFAQs voters:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/psp/969694-gladiator-begins/stats#rate

Not one single person has voted it below a 2.5...

That's the best ratings chart I have ever seen on this site.

Which really contrasts with the professional reviews, which never went above a "4" (80%): http://www.metacritic.com/game/psp/gladiator-begins

Because the game really is that good.

The critics see the battles as repetitive, or boring.

But there's a lot of depth here.

The game is packed with content, and a fun fighting system.

Speaking of, Lightwarrior11.

There are trailers and other s*** on Gamefaqs itself that might get you hooked on GB.

Its a very fun game.

Its actually the third best PSP fighting game on Gamefaqs, right behind Dissidia and Dissidia Duodecim. (If you use +100, anyway.)

I think the problem for "professional reviews" is that they don't play each games for long enough to have a good point of view of some of them.
They have that list of games, most that they probably don't even care about, and still have to review them in a short deadline for whatever website or magazine they work for.
(Of course that and counting how much money they get for doing this.)

Gladiator Begins is a game that shine the longer you're going to play it, after you start to understand clearly the fight system you enjoy every fights even trying to "show off" to gain more popularity from the crowd instead of trying to destroy the opponent as fast as you can.
After taking time to improve your equipment so you can actually face more gladiators without being buried , you run into special type of event that makes the game completely grow on you.

And the fantastic use of the new game+ functionality achieve to make Gladiator Begins one of the most brillant titles on PSP.

Most of those thing that make it great, a "professional reviewer" will not be able to access it, because there's no way they will play it long enough to discover the amazing game it truly is.
