Hories hits low and Ursus hits high. I really had trouble with Hories, the "Arbiter of Souls", whose armor is based on the appearance of the Egyptian god Anubis. When he crouches and shudders, get out of the way because his low lunging power-up attack is very hard to spoil and you cannot parry a power-up. Best to hit Hories first, seize the initiative, and never let up your attacks until Hories falls vanquished. Back away if he gets some swings in and wear your best leg armor.
The "Mysterious Female Gladiator" in the demo (aka Venus) was extremely difficult to defeat! Trick was parrying her attacks and, like Hories, hitting the legs and keep hitting her legs until her greaves fly off and she falls. But if you want her helmet, the "Iron Maiden" (8 ATK / 33 DEF / 37 WEIGHT and looks swell), then you must bash it off. Exchange your helmet for hers as soon as it comes off (lose a weapon or shield if its weight encumbers you) to maximize your chance of claiming this prize. Difficult, especially if you have not learned the dual weapon Wild Dance attack.
The way you can get the Iron Maiden helmet is to create a new save file on the demo version, defeat her, collect the helmet, and then load that demo save file in the actual full version of the game. Your full version of the game will recognize the demo save file. Or you could find a gladiator wearing the helmet in the Gladiator Bank, download and defeat this opponent.

I always had more trouble with Ursus, the guy who hits high, because he seems to have a ton of skill meter which, combined with his strong normal attacks, allows him to easily corner or stumble you for a combo to knock your armor off and smack your weapon away.
