Ripper doesn't void the No-Upgrades rule. It can be a NUR+ if you want it, but it is an added feature. I know how difficulty it can be to do the Armstrong fight on VH without any big guns, it can take forever. Focus, again, on learning to dodge all his moves. Don't mess up. What helped me a lot was positioning, keep him at the center of the stage at all times as this allows you to less easily get stuck in cornered situations.

What usually gets me is:
1.The standing flame pillar that remains for a long time. I'm talking about the initial animation that actually tries to trap you from both sides.

2.The 360 huge AOE explosion from Armstrong's body.
Most of the time double dodge away is enough but sometimes I dodge to the side by mistake then I will get hit by the explosion for sure.

> flame pillar
Stand next to him while he does it and dodge to the right (his left) when he hits the ground with his fist. Make sure he's in the middle of the stage. Works like a charm.

> AoE explode
Never press a direction when doing the dodge, that way it always goes 'back'. It can help to learn the timing to dodge through it with a side dodge or forward dodge.Use BMC'd Palm Strikes can do wonders too.

Here are a few of my Armstrong Videos (some are ancient though). Maybe some info in it will help:

I'm concerned about his healing now. If I mess up the cut on his healing spot and run out of fuel cells. What do you suggest I do?

I have 5 electrolyte packs for the battle but still wanna know how to stop his healing.

You can do:

- let the blademode run dry and use a raw blade mode cut;
- just use a regular Blade Mode cut;
- you can use the HFblade's regular attack to hit it, but that takes practice on the angle.

You can also just let him heal out, but he does it a total of 2 times I believe so that's a lot of free HP.

Yeah I dunno if it was just me or what but Armstrong VH was way harder than Armstrong Revengeance.

Could be that I S Ranked the Sam DLC on Rev in between them lol.

He is harder, as are most other fights on Very Hard. Revengeance is only harder if you can't Perfect Parry the boss. Armstrong melts on Rev. difficulty thanks to the QTE's dealing monsterous damage etc.

Yeah now that you mention it, I do remember dealing 100% damage on one string of QTE's while in ripper mode.
