All the subweapons were garbage lol.

You can't really understand how bad they are until you (attempt to) 1st place all the VR missions.

But now the secondary weapons or whatever they were called (polearm, pincer, sai) all ruled. Polearm was normally the most useful because you fight in groups a lot, but the sai wrecks larger enemies and bosses and the pincer, while pretty situational, is straight up broken at times.

I don't think one can objectively be best because they all serve different purposes.

The sai EM effect, the pincer charge move for heavy damage, etc.

That said... I can't bring myself to ever really use any of them. I love the full sword moveset too much even if most of the triangle button moves are less efficient than just square spam. Style is more important, of course!

Every once in a while I'll use Sam's blade for kicks or the FOX blade just to be silly but other than that I never use anything but the HF Blade.

That said, if I had to pick one I'd go with the Sai. The 'pull' move and the stun effect are both quite nice. After that the pincer for the charge move. The staff is cool looking but doesn't do all that much that the HF Blade can't already do for you with dashing square spam / square spam.

Though if I recall combining Ripper mode with the staff is actually pretty darn effective...

Most weren't that great for Raiden, but they were excellent for Sam since his Taunt made them extremely good. EMP's were very powerful though.

Really depends what you were going for. If you just wanted that S-rank or beat a mission, honestly, the Pincers were too powerful. Even on Revengeance Difficulty a Ripper Pincer just melts bosses. The Sai was great for certain fights. PoleArm was a novelty weapon, absolutely useless (imo) on regular runs but a joy on handicap runs since it infinites nearly every regular enemy while also being able to stunlock groups. Not that great against bosses though outside of its one loop on Sundowner and here I go again rambling about this game hahaha, sorry man, just can't help myself when it comes to this title :P

In terms of meta and what's overpowered, nothing beats Armor Breaker with Ripper Mode against regular foes as you can just play mindless and still no-damage every fight that way. For bosses Murasama+Sai/Pincer with Ripper to melt things.

Personally, I always prefered single weapon runs most. Just the regular blade. Damage was a bit lower but you gained a lot of mobility in return and some good loops too. But that's more for the added challenge.

Yeah you could do all sorts of things with him. Grenades were the best as I recall, Taunt+Grenade instantkilled every regular enemy, could wipe out whole groups. I think it was an oversight that they just left in.
