Aside from what difficulty, how many AI opponents are you selecting? Are you using the blue power up? Level 2 blue gives shields to all your missile attacks on the way to the enemy and your next attack. Level 3 blue makes your next attack a critical and makes you take 50% less damage from the next attack that hits you. Are you properly using the green powers? Level 3 is meant for reflecting attacks. A flashing red missile graphic will show up next to your island just as the enemy attacks are about to land on you, this indicates when you should activate the Level 3 green ability. Also, yellow abilities do not necessarily make it harder to collect resources per say, Level 1 yellow makes it harder to them to detect incoming missiles (it's still rather easy to time when to do reflect). Level 2 yellow locks the directions the player is able to move blocks for a certain number of combos or chains, which is extremely easy to get out of. Level 3 yellow creates a wormhole that will block any one attack (also a really good defensive move). With a combination of these things, I found it rather hard to lose to the CPU. All of this is covered in the tutorial.
