Now I have to update my IOS on my iPad Air 2. Majority of the use case was YouTube with Youtube Tools to block ads for the iPad. Going from untethered Pangu9 to a semi-tethered Checkra1n feels bad man.

Blocking ads on YouTube for iOS is a mixed bag. I haven't jailbroken since the glory days of the 4.

If you're new to iOS 9 and newer -- content blockers do exist natively but they're only in Safari. So forget about YouTube.app proper.

The flip side is you can enable YouTube-in-the-background as well as PiP. I can't live without either.

I've made the upgrade.

Youtube Tools doesn't work on 14.4.2. Cercube however does but it has its own ads. But if you install Adguard DNS profile, you block ads universal for all apps. Obvious being a DNS adblock doesn't block Youtube ads so Cercube is still required.

Found Checkra1n very stable so far, jailbroke once using a USB Linux drive and even installing a bunch of random Cydia tweaks didn't end up in a forced reboot yet. But overall I don't see any benefit of the upgrade. No point of having more compatibility when newer apps lag and stutter like crazy. Having a newer version of Spotify is useful though because the old version didn't have video support.

Maybe it was worth upgrading. I always found the filesystem on ios 9 god awful like it really didn't have one. 14.4.2 however has one and is actually usable. Similar to the Android one where you don't really have a lot of control but you can interact with it enough to do what you want most of the time.
