Is there a central location for AW4 designed maps or do I have to stalk people?

Even if I have to copy maps from an IMGur JPG by hand, tile-by-tile would be nice.

Not since AWN died, unfortunately.

The AWN design maps database died with it, so help us all.

Archive.org has some of them, but most of the AWN maps were for AW 3; few were ever centered around DoR and hiding.

Which means IMGur may be the savior of hosting. I just have to poke my face into the AW Reddit from time to time.

Jumping to the AW reddit... the recent 40d of activity have only a handful of AW3 maps.

Is there something wrong or unpopular about AW4?

Not in the slightest, but a bunch of people turned off due to the reboot and the visual style change. People don't make/share maps much any more. :(

It's not even a visual style change, AW4 added hiding in buildings and replaced day-to-day with zone-management -- two things that I thought were really great. They just needed more COs. Like a half-dozen more COs. A third of the existing COs just aren't great or are too great; randomized weather is too chaotic (though it makes Penny a top-tier choice); and I can't figure out how to make a map that can balance differing terrains with support units.

I think I've managed only one map where Greyfield might be a preferred CO choice and I dislike it because of how large and empty most of it is. (It's a mock up of the Red Cliff's sea battle/massacre -- the North have a fully deployed army, but must wade through winding ambushes.)

Greyfield is unfortunately a victim of the non-viable sea play problem, TBH. If naval play worked, he'd be good - Waylon shows that a specialist field of battle CO works and while Tasha isn't great she still has a bunch of things going for her.

And yeah, AW4 was one of the biggest quality of life upgrades in the series, outside of the SNES/GBC to GBA AW1 upgrade.

*sigh* Greyfield. He is more viable in spartan maps -- limited production, spacing prevents APCs from reaching, and/or there are few buildings to recover -- thanks to his Power being at least somewhat attractive to a round of merging units.

If the fields were equal, what does Tasha have going for her? I get that in a hybrid map she can push an advantage (e.g. CO unit a Tank, shielded by T-copters dropping off Mechs), but until Tasha gains a sizable edge, or has high-speed production, isn't she barely below Forsythe (wider, all-purpose boost) and barely above Penny (in a Clear-weather map)?

Yeah, she's low tier, but she has advantages. Main one is compared to Waylon, her COU B-Copter can pop tanks.

And Greyfield's CO Power is basically to subsidise and sustain seaplanes - which relies on you having carriers around to put to work.
