So I'm pretty new to this series haven't played any until this point (I did play Dream Drop Distance's demo on the 3DS way back though) and so far it's going well. Not sure what to expect since I've just finished my first mission. The idea here to equip stuff, go on mission, clear mission and other objectives along the way and then rtc. Does seem a bit flat when you put it that way, but there aren't other towns or places to visit other than for missions? Nothing too heavy on spoilers please.

It is entirely mission-based gameplay, yes.
Different name, same fate.

^I see. Now I'm wondering if this is just exclusive to this version compared to the rest of the series. Like since it doesn't have the number after KH I'm thinking it's a spin-off sorta? Gameplay does look and feel like what I've seen from KH games 1 and 2.

First rule of KH is that nothing is a spin-off lol. But yeah it's just because it's a DS game, it was designed to be played in short bursts. (It is similar to Crisis Core if you are an FF7 person.)

I see. I think it holds up well though. Feels very well made for its time. There are very few DS games that can bring a console experience with such quality. Lol guess KH is just that godlike all around then.

Thanks. I do have a backlog of games and life in general (you know adult stuff not a kid anymore) so I may not be able to finish it soon, but I'll definitely like play around it here and there.

You should absolutely play this series in order. Don’t start here.

You do realize that KHIII was so abysmal, that no real order is necessary anymore ?
They wrecked it.
If I were new, I'd read up on KHI, play II, 358 and maybe BBS.

They could play 358 first, then II and be in the picture just aswell.
Roxas backstory is further explained in diary entries.
As matter of fact, 358/2, II can be played exchangably.

As for I... well. Not too much to see there.
Just how Roxas came to be, and that is strongly hinted in both II and 358.
Also some Ansem stuff.

They keep pulling references to super obscure entries and put them in a mainline game without any explanation ?
Great. KHIII, truly the worst KH they ever made. And that in 13 years...
(Then again. DDD and 2.8 were a precursor already. Shame TeamTokyo is nolonger behind the wheel.
Bigger shame that Nomura was responsible for so much of the "plot")

The rest ? Hah.

And personally I think thats whats great about it.
Bite sized, with some cutscenes and conversation sprinkled in.
Way more relatable than most of the "disney" conversations of the other games.

Come to think of it... Maybe this is the best of the bunch /because/ disney-characters took a back seat.
