hi, everyone. completed the game, got the Hospital ending (which leaves plenty to be desired), and i found some really cool things along the way. if you've played and loved SH2, then you know what i mean when i say that these are things that put everything into perspective and make you say, "ahhh!"

i.e., when you find the guy with his brains blown out in front of a T.V. in the apartments, RIGHT AFTER you see Pyramid Head for the first time. this scene represents a possible ending: James, after finding the truth via a certain video tape, is consumed by his guilt (PH's presence) and blows his brains out. Further supporting this scenario is the fact that it DOESN'T TAKE PLACE UNTIL you grab the gun from upstairs...wow!

but anyways, the point of this thread is to point out such findings in SH:H. i've already found a few, and i expect everyone to contribute, for this is what makes the games what they are.
here goes:

1) the doctor pushing you down the hallway during the intro is your father. he is wheeling you to your torture and death in order to fulfill the town's cult's beliefs of purity. the body you find split in two is infact your father. this is supported by the game's final scene with your father--the one in which red pyramid [once again, this time explicitly] slices your father in two after he reveals the 'truth' to you.

this scene is awesome, as it represents your father's guilt (and subsequently, PH sort of belongs to him in this game primarily) for choosing to give you up for sacrifice, yet the player doesn't even begin to realize this until the second playthrough. once again, the obvious truth is before us as we begin our quest, but we are totally clueless...awesome.

2) as pointed out by another user (on the PS3 boards), the scenes of death you witness during the game's intro are in fact the 3 other kids who went missing, and subsequently, their deaths by their parents' hands:

a) Nora - death by strangling (btw, look up Asphxia--it literally means death by suffocation)
b) Bartlette's son - buried alive
c) Scarlett Fitch - Mutilated/dismembered

this leads to an interesting theory that you, Alex Shepherd, were in fact sacrificed and NOT placed in a mental institution. however, there are some contradictions/kinks to be worked out, but so far, i think this ending fits together the best and i would like to see support for it.

there plenty more to add, but i think i just solved the mystery of Silent Hill and am about to start a new post. please add and keep this thread alive!!!

3) The blades/tools found on the final boss' spider-like appendages are the SAME ones found hovering above the hospital bed in the intro. It represents both sin, humiliation, and punishment.

Sin - Alex's sin, his dead brother, is found within the belly of the beast.
Humiliation - Alex must now, despite his dead brother's wishes (read the photo's comments found on the playground in Alex's backyard), kill a spider--the ultimate Irony of the game in my opinion.
Punishment - the blades on the spider's leg are the one which will in fact kill him on the stretcher in the hospital.

I had a topic like this made. <.<

Nice analysis... Though I don't know if there's enough evidence to suggest it's all in Alex's head necessarily, more than simply implying what his nightmarish visions concern. That is, any more than the other games. Since Silent Hill 1 the series has evoked a Jacob's Ladder sense of not knowing what's real. Though I'm glad you highlighted all of the intro. elements relating to individual deaths, and the bosses relating to the manner in which the children were murdered. The one that stood out to me was Scarlet, as I feel her mutilation wasn't represented all that well. I suppose the breaking apart of her skin does a fair enough job.

I don't support the humiliation (by the way, nice call bringing this to the Xbox forum, too--the more, the merrier) line you're bringing up.

Finch killed his daughter (in Alex's dream?) with what looked like a bone saw. Nora was choked out. Barlett threw his kid in a hole. All of these are mentioned in the final puzzle of the game. Which is why the monstrous little tool at the beginning of the game couldn't have been what Adam (Alex's Dad) would have used to kill him. He would have drown him because his family agreed to give their children to the water. Which is why in one of the other endings his Father is drowning him.

At the beginning of the game, if you examine the tub Alex says he always hated taking baths when he was younger. Also, Otherworld Sheperd's house you find Robbie in the blood filled bath tub. Hmm...

darkprince:

you did?!? sorry, i didn't see it. well, add whatever you don't have to yours and let's create a comprehensive list. as weird as it may sound, it's never the actual games that beckon my glee years down the road--it's the subtleties that we users either find or create that further develop the general understanding/appeciation of the subject matter, you know?

i haven't played Sh2 in at least 3 years, but just the thought of such details are capable of inducing hour long rants to innocent bystanders (my girl).

I was actually going to ask if you wanted to combine. Well I've been focusing on more in game stuff. Like weird pictures or interesting items that you can see. Or references. I've started a new game and this what I've found so far.

When you're being taken on the stretcher, you quickly see a room number. The number was 206. Coincidence?

I've found one more, In the room where you get the knife, if you examine one of the stalls, he'll say it's locked, and say "Is someone in there?" Once you go into alternate world, the nurse comes out of that same stall.

pherio (<<<the guy who pointed out alot of this stuff) :

you're awesome. now i must witness the drowning ending (although i'm pretty sure it still doesn't give the amount of satisfaction it would had it occurred BEFORE Josh died).

I love the subtle details you've picked up on, such as the Rob doll in the bath and the non-affinity for bathtubs.

I thought that pyramid head killed alex in the dream, as sort of a throwback to 2. I mean you see him kill the doctor "dad" and you do hear him lurking around quite abit, especially in the hallway before the elevator

Yeah, it definitely looks like Bogeyman stabs Alex in the chest while he's in the elevator and then he wakes up. Which makes me curious as to exactly what he is supposed to be representing in this title.

If you don't take mercy on either of your parents and you let Wheeler die two Bogeymen(?) come and place either side of the helmet on your head (equipped with iron maiden type wide spikes for custom fitting and comfort on the inside). I feel like that might be important.
