ok, so got it on sale on steam, played the first area/tutorial, game ran great. then got to the part where you come across your sister and the dead guy, the police bust in, i run, and all of the sudden i went from 40-50fps down to like 5fps and stays there, making it unplayable and i keep dying. i am confused and am not sure what to do.

ok, turning PhysX off solved it completely, in case anyone else who just picked it up on steam was wondering.

1. First off, ATI/AMD card owners you're out of luck. Hardware physx is exclusive to Nvidia cards. You likely need a Geforce 8800 series or 9600GT or better to get acceptable performance with physx enabled. That said...

If you're getting unacceptable performance when enabling physx, the problem is that Mirror's Edge defaults to the physx software that it comes with - which is an old version. Make sure you have the latest nvidia drivers installed (forceware 191 or higher), as it will also install the latest physx version. Then do the following:

1. Delete or rename the physxcore.dll, and physxdevice.dll from the mirror's edge\binaries directory.
2. Also delete the physxlocal directory inside binaries.

These are an older version of physx the game defaults to, and if it isn't there then it'll use whichever version you have installed on your system.

3.Do NOT delete physXextensions.dll

This will force the game to use the latest installed drivers, and should increase performance when physx effects are happening.
Today was tomorrow yesterday.

Does the game do much with PhysX beyond the glass shattering?
