I kinda agree with Gevauden... With everyone following "guides", it doesn't matter anymore who you're fighting, as they all use the same strategies! However, by learning by themself, people will all play differently and every multiplayer game will be a new experience!

However, strategy guides that gives the basics aren't so bad ideas. So I'll still give a point on that! But I seriously advice people not to follow major "tactics" guide. That is a boring way of playing the game, independantly of who gets the victory.

I sort of agree, it is a good thing to be unique, however I am going to quote Ver's improvement guide here:

V. "I want to be different from the rest."
You don't want to be like everyone else, copying those some old standard builds. You want to be creative, not a boring macrobot. There's nothing wrong with having those thoughts and basing your play off it, I'm the same way. The issue here is how you go about it. Are you doing something different just to be different? Or are you doing something different because it is good? A good approach that is also unique will achieve better results than something of similar strength but well-known. However, being different just to be different is a worthless pursuit. In order to get around this conundrum you must first understand that what is good almost always becomes the standard; the only time it does not is when it is too hard to comprehend or is not used frequently or in popular games. So in order to find something worth using that is not standard,
you have to either find an idea so complex that few people would bother with or find something in a low profile match that nobody will watch.

you're not watching the videos to emulate the players

you're watching the videos to understand starcraft, and understand why they do these things and how to get in that line of thought that makes you a better player

even if you did emulate it, you would do so bad it'd be funny because you woudn't understand their micro or macro at all

watching these videos just helps you learn how starcraft works. you can analyze what the pros are doing, and why they are doing it, and when they attack, etc

emulating a build is just silly

everybody tends to add their own flair to it, and focus on different things

Well said, Exnhilation... err... I mean... Ver. >_<
I couldn't have put it better myself (well, I could have but now I won't bother trying to).

I also want to point out that what Ver said can be applied to just about anything competitive.
If you've never competed in anything in your life then I will understand you not understanding.
If you have and you're still saying stuff like this then you must either not be good and/or you're just trolling.

Thanks for the help guys.

I just want to say that the one thing I hope people take away from this guide is the gaining the drive to get better at this game. A lot of people are put off at the difficulty of this game but, as long as you strive to do something you will almost always improve because you WANT to get better.
