According to PapaGamer's faq:

"In order to wear and use the Crusader's Relics, you must have an Infamy score
of zero (0). If you gain one point of Infamy, you'll receive a warning. If
your Infamy increases to two (2) or higher, you can't equip the Relics until
you have once again walked the Pilgrim's Way (first quest for KoN)."

I haven't started the quest yet and I was wanting to do the dark brotherhood storyline and thieves guild storyline first. So basically, if I have a high infamy, all I have to do is do this "Pilgrim's Way" quest once, and I'll be good and can forever wear the relics? Thank you.

Your infamy mustn't be higher then 1 or you cannot wear the armour. However, once you complete the pilgrim's way, your infamy will be reduced to 0. You can do this pilgrimage as much as you want or need to do. If you do not fancy doing it again after the quest, you can always use the console to cheat.
