So I'm trying to play Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance on my Wii. It boots up fine, but around 5 minutes into the game it just crashes with a disc read error. I tried cleaning the disc carefully, but it still doesn't work.

The weird thing is:

- The Wii plays other games(Wii games and Gamecube games alike) completely fine. So it looks like it isn't a hardware issue.
- When I put it in my Gamecube(Japanese model; has to use an AR for region-lock-bypass), Fire Emblem... works perfectly well without crashing at all.

Anybody know what the issue is? How can I fix this?

PS. Don't tell me 'then just play the game on your Gamecube with AR', because my Action Replay disc is currently completely beat up and the middle section has cracks in it, meaning that while it does work it usually means having to take the disc out and replacing it to tweak its location for a few minutes every time I want to use it. Sometimes it just won't work at all. It's one of the main reasons I got a Wii with Gamecube functionality, to play all these US GC titles.

Okay, update of sorts.

Apparently my Wii's problem is with ALL Gamecube discs and not just Fire Emblem: PoR. Just went and tried Paper Mario: TTYD on it; it crashed like 3 minutes into the game. With Mega Man X Collection, it crashes even before the game could make it to the game selection screen. But the Wii games still work fine; tested with Super Mario Galaxy and Punch-Out and they show no problems.

It wasn't like this just a week ago... What gives?

It may be because:
1. You did some non Nintendo soft patch like emulator for pirated discs
2. Your lens is weak, try playing Smash Bro Brawl- weak lens won't pick it until 8 seconds
3. The Wii got a software bug

I suggest if the last is the case, sell the Wii and get new one, or better still Wii U.

As far as I know, WiiU will not play Gamecube games.

It's your lens, happened to my Wii a few years back. Needed to go out and buy another one in the end.

Yea... no... don't put GCN discs in your Wii U.
